Apple fixes iMacs

So a while ago we reported that several iMacs were crashing which caused work to be lost and required the users to restart their machines. The problem was later pinned down to being a driver issue with their ATI graphics card drivers.

Well they have finally gotten around to fixing the issue. There is now an update available that should fix the drivers.

Support for Intel’s X3100 mobile graphics chipset could mean that Apple has plans for a quick and dirty MacBook hardware refresh. Apple has generally stuck with ATI or NVIDIA graphics for their Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iMac line-ups, and the X3100 is a mobile graphics solution, so that means either the MacBook or the Mac Mini are getting the update.

Regardless of which one it is, the X3100 graphics chipset only works on the Santa Rosa platform which means that Santa Rosa is either getting added to the MacBook, the Mac Mini, or Apple is releasing a new, slightly lower end, MacBook Pro. The latter is possible due to the rumors of an all aluminum (like the MacBook Pro’s) 13” ultra portable being in the works, combined with the fact that the MacBook Pro’s are the only mobile line of Apple’s that already support the Santa Rosa platform.

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I think these two are worth only one. Rip-off.

I really can’t say much more than that, I could supposition on the stats, although an optional TV tuner, Core 2 Duo processor and 300GB HDD are all already semi-official. It looks like at least a 20” screen, I am guessing larger though.

While I’m not fond of the black outline around the screens of the new iMacs, it certainly wouldn’t be enough to sway me from getting one. However, issues with the screen itself might be enough to make me think twice before making a purchase.

Yes, please. FastMac, a company apparently known for bringing third-party upgrades to Apple products, has now brought you a Blu-Ray drive that you can drop into your Macs.

The upgrade is available for devices as old as the iBook G4 and the iMac G5 all the way up to the MacBook Pro 17-inch and all the rest of the MacIntels. It doesn’t just read Blu-Ray discs either; it’s a 2x burner as well.

Gateway today announced a sleek desktop PC called The One that looks equally (or more) attractive than the new iMac. I personally think the One is a long lost brother of the new iMac.

iMac new aluminum keyboard to be super-thin

The rumors of new iMac and its cool sleek keyboard just won’t die. Today Engadget received some pictures of the rumored aluminum bread thin slice keyboard from a tipster. Many Apple sites are reporting that the new iMac will be announce in August and speculation on how it looks has been buzzing recently.
