Apple iMac NVIDIA graphics leak fuels replacement rumor

Further fuel on the new iMac rumors this week, culminating in this supposed snap of Apple marketing materials that lists "High-performance NVIDIA graphics" among the specifications of the 20- and 24-inch machines.  The company's all-in-one desktop range is considered long overdue an update, with predictions circulating since October of last year that Apple would bring the iMac into line with other models by adding NVIDIA's latest graphics chipsets. However Apple themselves denied any update was coming, claiming that their holiday lineup was solid.  According to some reports, resellers are low on stocks of the current iMac models, and education Apple sales teams have been given permission to offer special pricing on what remains. Quanta is out, Foxconn to contract the next-gen iMac

Apple must be laughing at this so-called reliable source, Digitimes has revised its last report on Economic Daily News regarding the manufacturer behind the iMac all-in-one PC. As of today, Quanta is out of the picture, it was Foxconn who has secured a 800,000 units shipment per month contract with Jobs to build the allegedly next gen iMac to be announced at Macworld Conference next week. So unless there are new updates next week on who makes what from which contract. Here’s the new standing : Foxconn and Catcher Technology are in bed to supply the magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis while Foxconn will seek partnership in cooling module from Auras Technology. A cooling module? Could that possible hint a change in current-fan based cooling system? In any case, we will find out in a week there will be a new iMac or just another rumor. New Quanta-built iMacs to debut at Macworld conference Q1 2009 ?

With Steve Jobs keynoting or not, numerous rumors been circulating Apple to refresh the revamped versions of its long-overdued iMac at the Macworld conference coming this January. Concreted source has further supported the hearsay. Citing its source from the Economic Times Daily this morning, Digitimes claimed Apple is evidently preparing to introduce the new all-in-one iMacs at the MacWorld conference in San Francisco, in two weeks. Report said the Taiwanese manufacturer supplier of all-in-one PCs to Sony and NEC, Quanta, is contracted to begin shipping in Q1 2009 of their all-in-one computers in the quantity of 800,000 production units per month to Apple Fewer detail were revealed to the exact specs of the machine; but, as usual, Slashgear will bring you the MacWorld conference live reporting first hand. Multitouch iMac rumored after LG touchscreen panel discovery

Jot this one down under "tenuous speculation" for now, but Stuff were recently taking a look around an LG factory in Korea and happened to come across multitouch-capable displays.  So far, so dull, but factor in that LG are the display suppliers for the Apple iMac, and you've a question about whether a multitouch iMac is on the cards. Apple quad-core iMacs coming in January? New Intel chips rumored

According to a Digitimes report, Intel is preparing to launch three 65W low-power desktop processors in mid-January 2009, that will find their way into updated Apple iMac computers.  The news comes from sources at PC vendors, who suggest that Intel will announce the Core 2 Quad Q8200s, Core 2 Quad Q9400s and Core 2 Quad Q9550s at the start of the new year. Apple dismiss iMac, Mac mini update rumors: ‘Holiday line-up is set’

Apple has moved to quash rumors that they plan last-minute changes to their computing range before the end of 2008.  In what is likely intended to reassure would-be customers that holiday purchases won't immediately be outdated by new models, Apple press representative Bill Evans told MacWorld that "our holiday line-up is set."  It casts the recent speculation that Apple was planning imminent tweaks to the iMac and Mac mini ranges into doubt, and pushes those timescales into 2009 at the earliest. Even though a lot of people have barely gotten the shrink wrap off of their new MacBook and MacBook Pro purchases, Apple might be introducing an update to their iMac line before the year is through. According to AppleInsider, these updates wouldn't be major and would basically constitute a streamlining of the entire line. More speed, more gameplay and more pixels has been the theme of the week, with a variety of new hardware launches and upgrades together with some long awaited titles getting released.  Apple lived up to the rumors and introduced new processors and faster FSB for their iMac range, together with stirring up a little controversy over whether they’d had access to Intel’s future product line first.  Faux-Apple hardware also get plenty of attention, as Psystar’s OS X-running Open Computer took time out from being sniped at by fanboys to get benchmarked.

3.06GHz iMac gets Intel one-off CPU rather than early Montevina

Apple's refresh of the iMac line today no doubt left some rival manufacturers scratching their heads over how Steve Jobs and Co. got early access to the X9100 3.06GHz Centrino 2 chipset.  Not scheduled to be launched until June, the CPU - aka Montevina - will have a 1,066MHz front-side bus, compared to Santa Rosa's 800Hz.  Turns out, the answer is that Apple didn't get priority access; instead, Intel have tweaked an existing-generation CPU especially for the iMac.
