Psystar Back Up! Mac clone now called Open Computer instead of OpenMac

A simple name change has Psystar back on their feet selling their cheap desktop computers that are configurable with OS X on them. They’ve also added a new computer to their lineup, the OpenPRO which is available with a lot better case, comes standard with an 8000 series GeForce card and a 10k RPM HDD as well as a couple gigs of RAM. Speck’s colored shells for the iMac

, Mar 19th 2008 Discuss [0]

I am currently in possession of a slightly temperamental MacBook, so I have spent a little bit of time in my local Apple Store getting it fixed. After the new design for the monitors came out I have to admit, I hated them, now of course they have grown on me and my Acer monitors don't seem nearly as cool as they did when I bought them. Which means I can completely understand someone wanting to add a bit of color to them, after all that sleek look isn't for everyone. Read The Full Story

iMacs getting processor upgrade too?

So we all know that Apple hasn’t updated their precious MacBook Pro line in quite sometime, nor have they updated their MacBooks any time recently, so updates for both are likely on their way. The catch is, whatever processor/graphics/FSB the MacBook Pros are using/have usually gets passed on to the iMacs. Read The Full Story

Apple’s iMac fix didn’t exactly fix it

In fact it fixed it the same way the T-Virus fixes death, it made it worse. That’s only in some cases, in some cases it actually did fix the problem, but it seems that in a large majority of the cases, it did nothing. So I would assume that if it fixed the issue for some, made it worse for others, and did nothing for most, then it probably is a software/firmware issue, and not a hardware issue, but I’ll be honest I don’t know dick about Macs other than that I want one. No one else is entirely certain whether it’s a hardware or software issue, and most don’t care, they just want it fixed. Read The Full Story

Apple fixes iMacs

So a while ago we reported that several iMacs were crashing which caused work to be lost and required the users to restart their machines. The problem was later pinned down to being a driver issue with their ATI graphics card drivers. Well they have finally gotten around to fixing the issue. There is now an update available that should fix the drivers. Read The Full Story

Intel X3100 Chipset support found in Leopard install

Support for Intel’s X3100 mobile graphics chipset could mean that Apple has plans for a quick and dirty MacBook hardware refresh. Apple has generally stuck with ATI or NVIDIA graphics for their Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and iMac line-ups, and the X3100 is a mobile graphics solution, so that means either the MacBook or the Mac Mini are getting the update. Regardless of which one it is, the X3100 graphics chipset only works on the Santa Rosa platform which means that Santa Rosa is either getting added to the MacBook, the Mac Mini, or Apple is releasing a new, slightly lower end, MacBook Pro. The latter is possible due to the rumors of an all aluminum (like the MacBook Pro’s) 13” ultra portable being in the works, combined with the fact that the MacBook Pro’s are the only mobile line of Apple’s that already support the Santa Rosa platform. Dell XPS A2010 all in one PC leaked

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I think these two are worth only one. Rip-off. I really can’t say much more than that, I could supposition on the stats, although an optional TV tuner, Core 2 Duo processor and 300GB HDD are all already semi-official. It looks like at least a 20” screen, I am guessing larger though. Read The Full Story

Some new iMac screens reported to have condensation behind the glass

, Oct 23rd 2007 Discuss [1]

While I'm not fond of the black outline around the screens of the new iMacs, it certainly wouldn't be enough to sway me from getting one. However, issues with the screen itself might be enough to make me think twice before making a purchase. Read The Full Story

Gateway One – Sleek All-in-one desktop

, Sep 26th 2007 Discuss [11]

Gateway today announced a sleek desktop PC called The One that looks equally (or more) attractive than the new iMac. I personally think the One is a long lost brother of the new iMac. Gateway One design resembles characteristics of Apple iMac with its slot-loading side mounted DVD burners and the connectors such as three USB ports, one FireWire, and audio in/out. Wall mounting kit is also available to allow consumer to mount the system on the wall. Read The Full Story
