Harman unveils slew of new headphones, speakers

A slew of new JBL and Harman Kardon speakers and headphones were unveiled at IFA 2015 today, including portable speakers, loudspeakers for televisions, earbuds, noise canceling headphones, and more. The headphones will be released at different points over the coming weeks, and obviously will sit at different price points. Chief among them all, though, is the new JBL Everest series, including its flagship model, the JBL Everest ELITE 700.

Samsung Ultra HD Blu-ray player supports 4K streaming, HDR video

At IFA 2015 in Berlin today, Samsung unveiled its first Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The player sees Samsung bringing its support for Ultra HD media beyond just streaming and to physical discs as well, which offer four times the resolution of standard Blu-ray and 64 times the number of colors. Even more impressive is that the new player is capable of upscaling content to "UHD resolution for any disc," and even supports streaming 4K video content and high dynamic range (HDR) video playback.

Huawei may have just made a big splash at IFA 2015 to announce its new Mate S and finally launch the Huawei Watch, but apparently that's not all that it had to show. Philips has just announced a pair of multi-room speaker offerings, the Izzy BM5 and Izzy BM50. Aimed at keeping all aspects of music playback simple, from connecting multiple units to controlling each individually, the Izzy units let users hear music from a number of sources, including mobile apps and CDs, without the need for a WiFi connection. Only a single speaker need to connect to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, and then Izzylink handles getting audio to all the units in the house.

Panasonic has unveiled a pair of new audio products at IFA 2015 in Germany that includes the OTTAVA SC-C500 HiFi system and the EAH-T700 premium stereo headphones. The HiFi system combines the SU-C501 Stereo Amplifier with Panasonic's OTTAVA speakers and supports high-resolution audio. The SC-C500 is designed to be very small and compact so it can fit into areas where space is at a premium.

Samsung Car Mode for Galaxy sees Note 5 take on CarPlay

On the stage at IFA 2015 today, Samsung has been talking up its new Car Mode for Galaxy feature, its smartphone-based infotainment system for its latest smartphones. The newest version of the system uses MirrorLink to display apps and services on a car's in-dash touchscreen, much in the way that Apple's CarPlay for iOS and Google's Android Auto operate.
