Samsung transparent and tiling screens go square

Samsung transparent and tiling screens go square

Samsung is hoping buyers see right through its intentions with its latest display, a transparent screen designed for advertising as well as creating huge multi-panel installations with minimal bezel gap. The Samsung UD22B measures in at 21.6-inches, but unlike most current screens uses a square 1:1 aspect ratio rather than traditional 4:3 or widescreen 16:9. That, along with a mere 5.5mm gap between screens when lined up, means a display wall you can simply tile into place.

What the heck is IFA? (And why should I care?)

Stand by, tech hounds: gadgets incoming. Plenty to get excited about, then, particularly with IFA 2012 expected to be the biggest in the show's history. So, what's in store?

You might want to skip the Galaxy Note 2

You might want to skip the Galaxy Note 2

This month we're hearing rumors upon rumors that Samsung will be releasing their second full iteration of the Galaxy Note line with a "2" model toting a massive 5.5-inch display - but you might want to go ahead and skip it. We've been using the Samsung Galaxy Note - the first one - since it was released, and are now working quite actively with both the Galaxy Note 10.1 (the tablet-sized version of the device line) as well as the Samsung Galaxy S III. As it turns out, there might not be a need for yet another Samsung display size.

Galaxy Note 2 mockup both faked and legit at once

It's nearly time for the next Samsung Unpacked event at IFA 2012 in Berlin, and another image has been leaked showing what they plan on revealing: the Galaxy Note 2. Rather legitimate looking images of the device have been shown today by Daniel UY, a self-proclaimed Samsung addict and rather talented mock-up artist. While it does appear that a real photo of the device has been "leaked" (per our post earlier today), we've now got confirmation from the original artist himself that his own talents have been spread without his consent.

Samsung backtracks on Aug 29 Galaxy Note 2 confirmation

Samsung backtracks on Aug 29 Galaxy Note 2 confirmation

Samsung has backtracked on apparent confirmation that its IFA 2012 "Unpacked" event will see the official launch of the Galaxy Note 2, despite a spokesperson's previous "phablet" promises. Announced yesterday, the event on August 29 will mark a year since the launch of the original Galaxy Note, so it came as little surprise when an unnamed Samsung spokesperson revealed the second-gen model would indeed take the spotlight. However, "we cannot disclose information on what will be unveiled" a subsequent company rep told AllThingsD when questioned.

Samsung confirms Galaxy Note 2 debut imminent

Samsung's August 29 event at IFA 2012, confirmed yesterday, will indeed see the launch of the Galaxy Note 2 the company has reportedly revealed. Although the invitations Samsung issued yesterday to the Berlin press conference did not indicate which device or devices would be on the agenda, the Korean firm supposedly told Reuters that "we plan to unveil the next Galaxy Note at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event."

Archos G10 Android tablet brings on teaser for IFA

Archos G10 Android tablet brings on teaser for IFA

This week the folks at Archos have previewed their next-generation Android tablet for use with a special keyboard dock and what's undoubtedly an ultra-powerful multi-core processor. What sets this device aside from the competition here in its very unrevealed state is the fact that it does not pull up from its included keyboard dock as a notebook would, but rather sits in the dock separately like we've seen happen with the iPad's Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover. With a note that suggest the Archos G10, as it's called, will be out in 3 weeks, we must assume that we'll see it at IFA 2012 in Berlin.

P2i Aridion phone nano-waterproofing hands-on

P2i Aridion phone nano-waterproofing hands-on

Water and electronics generally don't mix, and while we've seen ruggedized, waterproof smartphones before they're generally rubber-clad, oversized and awkward. P2i hopes to change all that with its Aridion coating, a way of not only making the outer casing of a phone or tablet (or, indeed, plenty of other devices) resilient to moisture, but the internal components too. Read on to find out why you really want your next gadget to get the nano-tech treatment.
