Fisker Atlantic EV officially revealed

Fisker has taken the wraps off of its second hybrid electric car, the Fisker Atlantic, promising a more affordable option for Earth-friendly driving but with the same swoopy style of its Karma sibling. Unveiled at a New York Auto Show preview, in design concept form, the Atlantic is a four-door relying on a BMW-sourced, specially tuned four cylinder gas engine to top up the li-ion batteries driving the electric motors for the wheels.

Official Fisker Atlantic pics leak

Last week, we mentioned that some early spy shots of the smaller Fisker plug-in hybrid sibling to the Karma had leaked. At the time, the car was being called the Nina. Official shots of the new Fisker plug-in hybrid have now turned up online, and the car is now being called the Atlantic. The official debut is still set for later this week. Read The Full Story

There's a fabulously sharp looking shiny new car out there in the wild this week, and it goes by the name Fisker Nina. This plug-in hybrid vehicle still has few to no details revealed about it, but the absolutely beautiful curves all about it can be seen plainly thanks to a spy who appears to literally be hiding in the bushes to snap some well-placed shots between the leaves. Lexus teases odd LF-LC 2+2 Hybrid Sport Coupe concept

Those wild and crazy guys over at Lexus are teasing a new hybrid sport coupe concept car that has a very strange design. I can see little bits of the LFA in the design. The profile of the car reminds me of the Fisker Karma as well. Lexus is offering up no real detail and is taking the chance to say the car will be at the Detroit Auto Show. Read The Full Story

Toyota Aqua hybrid debuts in Japan to fight Honda Fit

Toyota has launched a new hybrid car in Japan that is aimed at the Honda Fit. The hybrid is called the Toyota Aqua in Japan and when it makes its way to the US the hybrid will be called the Prius C. The car will hit the US as a 2013 model. Toyota is claiming some really big fuel economy figures for the car at 83mpg. That is on par with some EVs that are out there. Read The Full Story

Honda talks about the slick HEV hybrid prototype

Honda is showing off a very interesting new hybrid vehicle prototype called the HEV. The car is based on the North American version of the Honda Accord, but it's nothing like a boring Accord underneath. According the Honda the hybrid will have performance like a V8 offers and efficiency of a 4-cylinder. Honda isn't sure when the prototype might be turned into a real car at this time. Ford Escape gets new fuel efficient engines for 2012

Ford has announced that the Escape will be getting three four cylinder engine options in the 2012 model year with two of them being powerful and fuel efficient EcoBoost offerings. Like all the other EcoBoost engines in the Ford range the big draw is that they make power equal to larger engines, but use much less fuel. The Escape will be getting two EcoBoost options in 2012 along with a 2.5L Ti-VCT engine. Read The Full Story

Toyota debuts plug-in Prius Hybrid and hopes to sell plenty of them

The Toyota Prius hybrid has been the most popular hybrid on the market for a long time. Much of the reason the Prius is so popular was that it was one of the first hybrids and the price is not out of reach for many buyers looking to save at the pumps. Toyota has long talked about a plug-in version for the Prius that would allow the driver to plug the car in at home and charge the batteries allowing the car to drive for at least a short distance on battery power alone. Jaguar unveils beautiful C-X16 concept

Back in May I mentioned the really cool supercar concept that Jaguar was working on called the C-X75 with the hybrid powertrain under the hood. Jag is back with another concept that shares a familial resemblance to the C-X75 called the C-X16. The car is intended to explore the future of performance hybrid autos. Siemens shows off hybrid electric airplane at 2011 Paris Air Show

When we talk about green technology for transportation, we generally think about green cars powered by biofuel, electricity, or hybrids. There is a lot more in the transportation world working towards being greener and the aircraft industry is one of those places. Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid Steering Wheel is packed with buttons

Hybrid cars are all fine and good with increased efficiency and fuel economy. I am a auto enthusiast though and I really want performance more than I want efficiency. It was really cool to me to see sports cars start to turn up over the last year or so with hybrid systems in place that act sort of like the boost from video games to give the cars a burst of speed when needed. Researchers create new batteries with crazy fast recharge speed

I have long said that one of the keys to making our gadgets more usable and vehicles that use batteries like EVs and plug-in hybrids more interesting to buyers is not only a battery with a higher capacity for energy storage, but also a battery that can be recharged quickly. That Nissan Leaf might not drive but 50 miles on a charge, but if I can recharge that car in only a few minutes suddenly that range is a lot more livable. Read The Full Story
