New Lamborghini Asterion video surfaces, reminding you of what will never be

New Lamborghini Asterion video surfaces, reminding you of what will never be

Back at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini left us speechless with the unveiling of the Asterion LPI 910-4, the company's first plug-in hybrid. They made it clear then that the car was just a working concept, meant to serve as a technology demonstration. It offered just about the best of everything with a 5.2-liter V10, three electric motors, and an incredible 910 horsepower with 57.3 mpg. It was practically cruel to show us such a thing and then say it would likely never enter production.

Prius batteries becoming popular target for thieves

You know you have a popular car when it starts getting damaged and stolen for parts, but you'd think the battery would be the least likely cause for vandalism. Well, apparently that's the hot-ticket item on the black market if you're a Toyota Prius owner. San Francisco drivers of the hybrid have noticed an increase in car battery theft in recent days. Both police and local dealerships have noticed the new trend, and one belief is that there is a growing demand for the part as owners of the first generation Prius reach the end of their 10-year battery warranties.

VW Golf GTE Sport Concept marries EVs with race cars

VW Golf GTE Sport Concept marries EVs with race cars

Unless you've been keeping a close eye on the automobile industry, you'd presume that performance race cars and electric vehicles, even the hybrid plug-in ones, don't mix. Volkswagen wants to shatter that misconception with the new Golf GTE Sport Concept just unveiled at Austria's Wörthersee festival. Like the Golf GTE compact announced February last year, this EV harnesses the joint power of a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, two of the latter actually, to deliver a top speed of 280 km/h truly worthy of a GT name.

Lenovo just can't catch a break these days. 2016 Chevrolet Volt now has a price tag

It seems that Chevrolet is going full steam ahead with the 2016 model of its hybrid electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt. The 2016 Volt carries an MSRP of $33,995. And in $825 for destination fees, which doesn't include tax, title, license and dealer fees, and you're just $1,200 shy of the current Volt titleholder.

Chevy Volt production to halt for 4 weeks: slow sales cited

Things aren't looking so good for General Motors' gas-electric hybrid, with the company revealing that Chevrolet Volt production will be suspended for four weeks this summer. The reason revolves around slow sales numbers, and is also to shift focus toward preparing for the upcoming 2016 Chevy Volt model, which will have certain different production requirements. The plant that makes the Volt will likely be staying open during the suspended production, however; that plant is under construction as GM preps to start building the new Volts and the Cadillac CT6.

Toyota teases 2016 RAV4 Hybrid ahead of debut

Toyota has teased its upcoming 2016 RAV4 Hybrid SUV, something it plans to officially debut at the New York Auto Show next week. It's not much of a tease (or is especially so, depending on your perspective), showing only part of the back end where the "Limited Hybrid" emblem is placed -- we don't really get a look at the SUV, then, but there are a few details to be gleaned from the relatively sparse shot, including a switch up in the tail lights design.
