HTML5 May Just Have Won the Internet

HTML5 May Just Have Won the Internet

Take a bit of notice and remember last spring when the talk of the town was the fact that Apple was pushing for HTML5 to be the standard for video on the web. Opposite what? Adobe's flash player. Where a year ago basically everything you saw as far as video was based in flash, now the standard has all but completely switched over to HTML5 - to a point.

Roku Gains Content Partnership with Hulu

Roku Gains Content Partnership with Hulu

Today, Roku has officially announced that Hulu is coming to the Roku media streaming devices available in the market. It will be made available in the Hulu Plus variant, which means that if you want to get your hands on the media streaming service, you'll have to drop some money every month. But, the additional service to the media streaming set-top box does indeed put a new twist on the at-home media streaming services, and puts some question marks over the other set-top boxes available to consumers.

Netflix PS3 disc-free update coming; Hulu Plus is “a direct competitor”

Netflix are promising an update to their PS3 streaming client sometime within the next three months, complete with a new UI that's loaded onto the console rather than requiring a disc as with the current implementation.  That's just one part of the company's attempt to take on the Hulu Plus challenge; according to NewTeeVee, Netflix are seeing slowing DVD subscriber growth as more users turn to streaming.  Netflix CEO Reed Hastings puts that down, in part, to an increase in TV content.

Especially considering the fact it's not so much of a rumor, but more of a "confirmation" from the Chief of Hulu himself, Jason Kilar. A confirmation that he's "comfortable" with the idea, that is. Not that it's coming.

Hulu Plus Requires PSN+ Only for Preview Period

Hulu Plus Requires PSN+ Only for Preview Period

Right on the heels of the official announcement from Hulu that Hulu Plus is real, came the down-right depressing news that PlayStation 3 owners would be forced with a decision: want that Season Ticket for all your favorite shows? Then sign up for PSN+ -- no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It may have not been a big deal to everyone, but there's always a few people out there that don't want to pay extra for something they're already going to have to pay for. Well, thanks to Hulu proper, we've got confirmation that everything isn't as it seems.

Hulu Plus on PS3 Could Mean Mandatory Subscription to PSN+

Hulu Plus on PS3 Could Mean Mandatory Subscription to PSN+

Yesterday, Hulu made waves with the announcement of the much-rumored Hulu Plus. A brand new subscription-based methodology to stream your favorite TV shows, whenever you want. For just $9.99 per month, you'll get your hands on the "Season Ticket," which will let you watch any episode of a particular season, with no expiration date (which is the general rule of thumb on Hulu right now). And, with that announcement, came the revelation that Sony's PlayStation 3 would be getting support as well in the near future. But, there could be some very important fine print not quite revealed.
