Why I Can’t Stand Hulu Plus

As someone who streams Netflix content through several different devices, including my HDTV, the iPad, and others, I recently decided to give some other streaming offerings a chance to win my affection. My first choice among the many out there was Hulu Plus.

Now, I should note that I’ve used Hulu quite often. While I’m having lunch, I’ve been known to surf to Hulu’s Web site and watch some episodes of shows I might have missed recently. I guess you could say that I’ve been a Hulu veteran for quite some time now.

RIM wants Blackberry PlayBook Hulu Plus access

RIM launched the Blackberry Playbook not long ago and started sending the machines out to reviewers to spend some hands on time with. We put up our review of the Playbook last week and noted that the firmware was a wreck. Chris called the firmware "half-baked" at the time he wrote about the device. One of the bright spots was that at least for a while the Playbook users could access the streaming content on Hulu.

Hulu Blocks Support For BlackBerry PlayBook

The BlackBerry Playbook came out just two days ago and although it lacked support for various basic functions such as email, calendar, and contacts without the crutch of having a BlackBerry smartphone as well, it was able to access Hulu, the popular movie and TV show streaming service, via its browser without a problem. That is, until late afternoon yesterday when it was apparent that Hulu nixed the support.

Hulu facing free show cull as “virtual cable operator” plans considered

Hulu is reportedly facing a cull on its free content, with Fox and ABC both considering pulling some of their shows in an attempt to make more money through paid subscriptions. According to the WSJ's sources, Hulu's management may reposition the service as an "online cable operator" which would use IPTV to deliver live TV and video-on-demand, similar to channel bundles currently offered by cable and other operators.

iPad shines as a touch computer with iOS 4.2

iOS 4.2 was released today for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.  iOS 4.2 boasts over 100 new features however I feel AirPrint and AirPlay are among the most significant new features and deserve a deeper analysis.

AirPrint and AirPlay will be nice new additions for the iPhone and iPod Touch however the iPad is where they shine.  Printing had been one of the main early requests after the iPad came out signaling that consumers wanted to do more with their iPads than just surf the web and play games. Apple has provided that feature and gone one better with AirPlay.
