Why I Can’t Stand Hulu Plus

Why I Can’t Stand Hulu Plus

As someone who streams Netflix content through several different devices, including my HDTV, the iPad, and others, I recently decided to give some other streaming offerings a chance to win my affection. My first choice among the many out there was Hulu Plus.

Now, I should note that I’ve used Hulu quite often. While I’m having lunch, I’ve been known to surf to Hulu’s Web site and watch some episodes of shows I might have missed recently. I guess you could say that I’ve been a Hulu veteran for quite some time now.

Less TVs in the US, is it the Economy or the Internet?

Less TVs in the US, is it the Economy or the Internet?

I am considered an oddity among some of my friends and family because I don't have cable. I do have a TV, but I rely on DVDs, Netflix and my Roku player for my television viewing. When someone asks me if I've seen a commercial, I just smile and say "no". In fact, my daughter (at 4 years old) was shocked the first time she watched Nickelodeon when the commercials came on. She had never seen one. But maybe my odd choice is becoming less odd. A new report by Nielsen shows that for the first time since 1992, there are less US households with television sets. To be sure, the vast majority of households still own TVs, but the percentage has gone from 98.9 percent to 96.7 percent. Part of the explanation is the economy, and the change to digital. But is there another explanation?

Avatar Kinect, Hulu Plus & Netflix Kinect Functionality Unveiled at CES 2011

For some, Microsoft's keynote, where CEO Steve Ballmer (and others) takes the stage and talks about what's to come from the Redmond-based company is the kick-off for the Consumer Electronics Show. This year, Microsoft took some time to talk about their recently released motion-controlled peripheral, Kinect, and the features that will be added into the accessory soon. No Hulu Plus or Netflix for Cable TiVo DVRs

No Hulu Plus or Netflix for Cable TiVo DVRs

Another stumbling block on the path to all-content multimedia enlightenment in a single STB has presented itself, with rights holders taking umbrage with TiVo DVRs supplied by cable companies. According to Suddenlink - though the limitation also stands for Cox and RCN - rights holders aren't willing to see streaming and VOD content on the same cable-powered device; that means that, while Hulu Plus is expected to launch on TiVo STBs soon, it will only be available for those bought at retail, not supplied by cable companies
