Hulu grabs CSI streaming exclusive (sorry, Netflix)

Hulu grabs CSI streaming exclusive (sorry, Netflix)

The on-demand content grab continues, with Hulu announcing it'll be the only place to go if you're a CSI: Crime Scene Investigation fan thanks to an exclusive licensing deal. Notable for being the first time any of the CSI shows have been offered through a subscription video-on-demand service, the agreement - described as "multi-year" though with nothing more specific than that - will see over 300 existing episodes offered for binge-watching, in addition to making Hulu the place for new episodes as CBS airs them. That includes CSI: Cyber, the newest addition to the franchise which is about to debut.

Hulu strikes deal with FX Productions for exclusive streaming

Hulu has announced a new "landmark" deal with FX Productions that will bring additional television content from FXX and FX to the subscription video streaming service. The agreement was made with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, and under it Hulu says it'll offer the largest FX Networks content selection among subscription VOD services. This is a multi-year deal.

Hulu has more ABC shows inbound

Hulu might not be adding new shows and movies at the same clipped rate as Netflix, but the video streaming service certainly isn't slouching when it comes to providing new content. Earlier this month, Hulu revealed it will be adding several TV series from Discovery network stations on January 1, and last night it followed that up with an additional announcement: a new agreement with Disney-ABC that'll result in streamable episodes of several additional television shows, including Resurrection and Alias.

Nielsen tipped in plan to monitor subscription video viewership

Nielsen plans to start monitoring video streaming services' viewership numbers, shedding light on figures that have long been hidden from the public. Such information comes from the Wall Street Journal, which reports that it has viewed client documents related to the plan. The plan won't include tracking viewership habits that take place on mobile devices (for now, at least), but will use Nielsen meters to analyze audio for determining what shows are being watched on other devices. The resulting numbers could, among other things, help studios negotiating with the services.

Hulu will soon have old Nickelodeon shows and more

Hulu will soon have old Nickelodeon shows and more

Hulu is a decent subscription to have if it offers a show you like to keep relatively up-to-date on, but isn't so great when it comes to watching old episodes of long gone shows. Netflix fills that void to some degree, but it is lacking in its own way, which makes Hulu's latest announcement a welcomed one: a new deal is in place with Viacom that will usher in thousands of additional episodes, including ones from older shows like The Ren & Stimpy Show and Nickelodeon's under-appreciated Invader Zim.
