HTC 10 inbound: here’s what we know so far

In little less than 24 hours, HTC will be fully revealing its smartphone hand. Given its history in the market, its new grab for the virtual reality industry, and its unstable coffers, both fans and detractors, market watchers included, are keeping tabs on how that next champion will turn out. Believed to be christened as the HTC 10, dropping the almost iconic "One" brand, the smartphone is expected to present an intriguing mix of features, and perhaps misfeatures, that will surely be the talk of the town for the next few days. But what does HTC have in store for us? This is what we know or have heard of so far.

HTC Vive also experiencing shipping issues, no need to worry

HTC Vive also experiencing shipping issues, no need to worry

It seems that virtual reality headsets aren't off to a great start. At least as far as actually getting them into users hands in a timely manner is concerned. Following the Oculus Rift, HTC has acknowledge that, it is, indeed, experiencing some problems in the chain, causing some minor problems and a few concerns. However, the good news, if HTC is to be believed, is that there will be no delays in shipping the HTC Vive Which means it that, unlike Oculus, it doesn't have to do anything for compensation.

HTC 10’s front camera might have optical image stabilization

We'll let that title sink in for a few moments. Recovered from awe, shock, or disbelief? If not, don't worry. You still have a few days to wrap your head around the idea, which is all sorts of amazing and bizarre at the same time. HTC has boasted that its upcoming smartphone, whose real name we'll finally get to see on the 12th, will have a compelling camera. It should have probably said "cameras" instead. That's because, according to this "insider source", the HTC 10 will have the world's first front-facing smartphone camera with OIS.

BMW picks HTC Vive for mixed reality car development

BMW picks HTC Vive for mixed reality car development

BMW has chosen to incorporate the HTC Vive into their development process - opting for mixed reality experiences rather than costly prototyping for each new vehicle. What these folks will be doing is creating vehicles in the computer - as they would have anyway - and instead of creating each new iteration as a metal and plastic prototype, they'll step inside in virtual reality. Mixed reality is the term we're using here because they'll also be able to see where they actually sit in the real world.

HTC 10’s “best” camera might use UltraPixel buzzword again

HTC 10’s “best” camera might use UltraPixel buzzword again

HTC CEO Cher Wang already hinted that the company's next champion smartphone, which may be called simply the HTC 10 based on an onslaught of teasers, will have a compelling camera at last. The latest teaser ahead of the device's public reveal echoes that claim as well. HTC says it is obsessed with delivering the best smartphone for taking photos and videos. That best, however, may see the company going back to the UltraPixel marketing term it tried to push back with the One (M7) in 2013.

Three HTC Vive experiences that’ll make you open your wallet

Three HTC Vive experiences that’ll make you open your wallet

HTC Vive is $799. That's a lot of money, especially when you factor in a suitably-potent gaming PC as well, so how do you justify taking the plunge? Consumer-level virtual reality is still in its infancy, and given how experiential the whole thing is, it's not hard to see why many people aren't quite convinced by what they see on-screen.

HTC Vive’s secret sauce is casual gaming

HTC Vive’s secret sauce is casual gaming

HTC Vive isn't a small investment in time, gadgetry, or of course money. You'd be forgiven for assuming that, with its huge box full of headset, controllers, motion-tracking base stations, and all the many cables and power adapters that keep them connected and running, playing with Vive would be a similarly involved process. Still, you'd be wrong.

HTC Vive Review – the Holodeck you always wanted

Virtual Reality is finally coming of age, and with Vive, HTC and Valve believe they have the finest and most flexible interpretation of next-generation gaming. A surprise announcement just a year ago, Vive aims to out-immerse Oculus' Rift by spreading VR throughout the room, rather than just putting it in a headset. HTC 10 teased to have the best BoomSound yet

HTC may have had a few trips and falls for the past years, but at least it has acknowledged its users' biggest complaints, somewhat. By claiming that the upcoming HTC 10 (or HTC One M10) will finally have a compelling camera, the company partially admits that its previous cameras, despite the hype, have failed expectations. Now it is giving attention to audio. Its latest video teaser unambiguously claims that the flagship will have the best BoomSound yet, promising high-fidelity and hi-res audio you've only come to expect in dedicated media players.
