This is obviously a highly-anticipated device, and we can tell you now that, while in some areas it excels, there are still some frustrating omissions. Good things, they say, come to those who wait, and it certainly feels like we’ve been waiting long enough for the HTC Touch HD. From the first early leaks, official reveal and through to the disappointment that HTC wouldn’t be releasing the smartphone in the US, this 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen has managed to grab attention away from the best Apple, Sony Ericsson and the rest have to offer. HTC have announced the release date for their Touch HD smartphone. The Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro device, which has a 3.8-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen with haptic feedback, a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and 3G HSDPA, will be available in Europe come November 6th.

HTC have no plans to bring flagship WM6.1 smartphone the HTC Touch HD to the US, citing engineering issues in supporting the 3G HSDPA and HSUPA bands. In a Twitter message today, HTC revealed that the smartphone – which has a 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen and was already being hailed as the biggest threat to Apple’s iPhone 3G – will never officially be imported into the US, because by the time they developed a new version the handset would be obsolete.
After a week or two on the down-low, netbooks have been back among the headlines with Sony grudgingly admitting that it will probably make one while MSI discussed plans for their second-generation range. Not bad for something an AMD VP described as only good for “around the house”. Elsewhere, it’s been 3G and netbooks getting married: Vodafone revealed their UK deal with Dell, and T-Mobile their Acer deal in Germany. Speaking of Acer, we unboxed their Aspire One and will have the full review on Monday.
There’s a torrent of HTC Touch HD news out today, including hands-on photos and feedback, a video demo and even pre-order pricing. The latter comes from Amazon Germany, who are asking €619 ($893) for the handset though with no estimated shipping date; as for the first, French site geekinc.fr have apparently scored a re-release handset and have offered up photos and some first-impressions. The good? It’s about the size of an iPhone 3G, with an 800 x 480 that’s gorgeous and a steamroller of a CPU.

HTC have put up the product page for the Touch HD smartphone, which we first caught sight of last week. Although no press release has been issued at time of writing, what we have confirmed makes for a highly tempting handset. A 3.8-inch WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen, HSDPA (using the Europe/Asia 900/2100MHz bands), WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS and A-GPS round out the device, together with HTC’s TouchFLO 3D GUI.
Details of the HTC’s next Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro smartphone have emerged, and while little is currently known for sure about the handset it’s already shaping up to be the next must-have for mobile pros. Called the Touch HD, the most impressive feature looks to be the WVGA touchscreen display. Connectivity includes HSDPA and WiFi for high-speed browsing, together with GPS.
