HTC Bootloader Situation Update: Devices Continue Shipping Locked, Unlock Comes from Web

HTC Bootloader Situation Update: Devices Continue Shipping Locked, Unlock Comes from Web

Wednesday of this week, HTC sent out a new update on the situation they've had brewing for some weeks, that being one where fans of the devices have demanded handsets have unlocked boot loaders so that they might root and hack them for custom modifications. HTC responded some time ago to the call to action by indeed responding with a declaration that they would, indeed, be unlocking their devices come this Summer and Autumn. In their most recent update, HTC notes that there have been many questions as to why their most recent devices still come locked, responding with updates on how and when each device would be unlocked and what users would have to do to make it happen.

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide Review

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide Review

In my possession I have HTC's latest attempt at a slider. This here is the myTouch 4G Slide running over on T-Mobile with those super fast 4G speeds. It takes everything you liked about the myTouch 4G and adds those few features we liked in the 3G slide and poof -- we have the myTouch 4G Slide. This bad boy has a dual-core 1.2 Ghz CPU and a slide out QWERTY keyboard to keep you all busy. I must admit though, the camera is pretty neat too. Head on past the break for more details!

HTC bootloader unlock starts August for Sensation and EVO 3D

HTC bootloader unlock starts August for Sensation and EVO 3D

HTC has announced that it will begin the process of unlocking the bootloaders on its Android phones from August, with the HTC Sensation first on the list. Having confirmed back in May that it was changing its policy on locked bootloaders for future handsets, HTC had been unclear on when - or even if - it would be updating existing devices to support the same third-party ROM flexibility. The news this weekend, however, makes devices like the Sensation and the EVO 3D far more appealing to advanced Android users.

HTC gives Sensation a WiMAX makeover for HTC EVO 4G+

HTC gives Sensation a WiMAX makeover for HTC EVO 4G+

HTC has outed its latest 4G smartphone, and though the dual-core HTC EVO 4G+ WiMAX handset is initially intended for South Korea's WiBro networks, we'd be very surprised if it didn't make it over to North American shores. Packing both WiMAX and HSPA connectivity, the EVO 4G+ basically takes the guts of the HTC Sensation - including the 1.2GHz dual-core CPU and 4.3-inch qHD resolution display - and gives it a squared off chassis.

HTC using new NMT metal/plastic fusion for super-slim smartphones?

Future HTC smartphones could be thinner, more lightweight and paradoxically stronger, if rumors about the company's manufacturing processes are true. The company has turned to Chenming Mold Industrial (CMI) and Nano Molding Technology (NMT), DigiTimes reports, for a new smartphone; NMT is a system of injecting plastic components directly onto a metal shell, reducing overlap thickness in the process.

HTC Sensation 4G On Sale Early At Some Walmarts

HTC's new flagship phone, the HTC Sensation 4G, is reportedly going on sale early at some Walmart locations. The phone was recently knocked for having an iPhone-like "death grip" signal strength problem, which the company quickly dismissed as false. If the issue doesn't perturb you and you'd like to grab one early, then be on the look out at your local Walmart.

HTC: There’s no Sensation “death grip” issue

HTC: There’s no Sensation “death grip” issue

We weren't the only ones feeling a whole lot of love for the HTC Sensation - and its T-Mobile Sensation 4G cousin - but a report earlier this week suggesting the smartphone suffered "death grip" style signal issues threatened to sour the phone's flagship reputation. We've been chasing HTC for an official statement, and the company has just come through: perhaps unsurprisingly, the official line on whether the Sensation suffers from an antenna issue is "No."

HTC promises unlocked bootloader for Sensation smartphones

HTC promises unlocked bootloader for Sensation smartphones

HTC fans were not happy at all when the company didn’t adopt the policy of other smartphone firms that offer Android handsets. The thing that made the users unhappy was that while Samsung and others were moving towards unlocked bootloaders to allow for custom ROMs on the devices HTC was sticking with locked down devices. HTC later changed its stance on unlocked bootloaders and promised that it would launch future phones in unlocked form.
