HTC One M8 and M7 update to Android 5.0 Lollipop

HTC One M8 and M7 update to Android 5.0 Lollipop

This morning HTC has tapped in with final upgrade approval for both the HTC One M7 and HTC One M8 for Android 5.0 Lollipop. The first devices that will be updated are the Google Play Editions of both devices, with both the M7 and M8 seeing Over-The-Air updates this morning. The kernel sources for both devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop have both been approved as well, meaning we'll see Lollipop ROMs and unofficial builds aplenty very, very soon - once the hackers and developers get to work.

HTC Hima details leaked: replacing the One

HTC Hima details leaked: replacing the One

The HTC Hima's details have been leaked this morning by a notoriously accurate leakster by the name of "Upleaks", and the device is said to be coming by March of 2015 - and likely introduced either immediately before or during Mobile World Congress 2015. If past events are any indication, we might well see this device introduced in the first couple of months in 2015 then shown off at MWC 2015 while HTC Desire devices are revealed anew. Also, the word "Hima" is a code-name, not a final name.

HTC One M9 details tipped to dump the UltraPixel

HTC One M9 details tipped to dump the UltraPixel

It may be time for HTC to get rid of the UltraPixel name - and the technology - if today's anonymous sources are to be believed. The rest of the specifications shared this afternoon aren't all that difficult to believe. Just boosts in resolution, screen size, and processor power. The big difference here is in the change in camera - which anyone could have predicted, really. We're crossing our fingers that HTC has something more exiting planned than what basically amounts to a generational kick in the pants.

HTC One for Windows nabs an Xbox Dot View cover

HTC One for Windows nabs an Xbox Dot View cover

Today we're having a quick peek at the Xbox Dot View cover - a sort of limited-engagement release made specifically for the Windows Phone version of the HTC One (M8). This case works exactly the same as the standard HTC Dot View cover, but here you're getting it in Xbox Green. You've also got the Xbox brand on the back, for good measure. This case is part of a push for the HTC One (M8) with Windows this holiday season, coming with the device with Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile inside the United States.

HTC One (M8) screenshots show Sense 6.0, Lollipop

HTC One (M8) screenshots show Sense 6.0, Lollipop

HTC is on the clock about when they’ll update their One lineup, having already noted they’d push Android Lollipop out within three months of it hitting AOSP. If a series of screenshots posted to Twitter are accurate, they’ve already begun the process. Released to the world by @LlabTooFeR, the shots show HTC’s Sense sitting atop Android Lollipop. According to the ROM Developer, this shows Sense 6.0, suggesting HTC hasn’t made any changes to their home-grown Android skin to go with Lollipop.

Lollipop update for HTC One set for Friday

Lollipop update for HTC One set for Friday

This Friday, the 21st of November, 2014, we'll be seeing updates to both the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7) for Android 5.0 Lollipop. This is a bit of a delay compared to the original projected release date - early this week - but still jams in amongst the first in the industry to release such an update. At this time we're not entirely certain what the HTC One update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will entail, exactly, as it'll be the first in the industry to have more than just the basic Google-made Vanilla layout.

HTC One M8 for Windows sneaks into T-Mobile

HTC One M8 for Windows sneaks into T-Mobile

Windows Phone devices outside of the Nokia, now Microsoft, Lumia line do exist but they might as well be non-existent given the rather low profile they have. HTC and Microsoft, however, wanted to change all that and offer the platform's fans a truly high-end option. Now, the HTC One M8 with Windows edition has finally completed its US carrier round, rather quietly creeping into T-Mobile's online catalog. With HTC's admirable design and hardware, this smartphone could very well be the Windows Phone flagship, if the OS can catch up.

HTC Desire EYE Review

HTC Desire EYE Review

The HTC Desire EYE seems to have one key point in its favor, at first - selfie power. But it's a whole lot more than that. Instead of a smartphone that's made for taking photos of yourself, the Desire EYE is a surprisingly well-rounded phone. And it's not a mid-tier phone either - in fact it has many of the same specifications as the HTC One M8, the company's current major hero phone. This isn't your everyday average after-thought - it's a re-imagining of the HTC One M8's key points put inside an almost shockingly well made "Desire" brand device.

Android Lollipop hits AOSP; HTC sets the upgrade pace

Google has pushed the Android Lollipop source code to the AOSP, which means the clock is ticking. Now that the source is final (at least for version one) and available, many handset owners will be looking to their OEM to find out when they’ll get the new Android flavor. Some have spewed a good game ahead of today about upgrades, so we’ll be anxiously awaiting Lollipop on our devices. Others, like HTC, aren’t so much as talking a blind-faith game as giving a deadline.

HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 gives One smartphones a quick boost

HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 gives One smartphones a quick boost

Time and time again, we've looked to the battery as the bottleneck for smartphone performance and longevity. No longer encumbered by CPU or memory, at least for some models, it is the battery's usually short life that has now become the primary concern for smartphone users. But in cases where you don't have a huge battery or can't swap ones in a pinch, your last resort will be an external battery or a wall charger. For the latter, HTC is bringing a new Rapid Charger 2.0 that promises to bring your phone back to life at a fraction of the time required.

HTC One E8 leaked to have its own EYE variant coming soon

When companies stumble on a winning formula, they usually squeeze out everything they can out of it to the death. HTC might have just stumbled upon such a winning formula when it revealed its new EYE brand, showing the world that it can go beyond just smartphones and dabble in digital imaging as well. And now, we're starting to see a pattern that would yield a series of device variants that have nothing different from their originals aside from having EYE software pre-installed, like this HTC One E8 EYE just sighted.
