If you’ve been worried about not being able to get your hands on an AT&T HTC One X or an EVO 4G LTE, worry no more. HTC says that the customs ban has been lifted now that the affected handsets have been found to be free of patent infringement. The phones will now make their way past customs and into retail stores, and eventually into customer’s hands once stock levels normalize.

HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE escape US customs
HTC EVO 4G LTE shipping date now May 24
In what's quickly becoming one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones on its carrier of choice, the HTC EVO 4G LTE's release situation has just turned back to positive with a May 24th ship date on the books. The HTC EVO 4G LTE was recently the subject of an investigation / check sort of event at the US border while HTC's shipment (which also included HTC One X) units were held up on account of their supposed patent-infringing software. Since we first heard that news, HTC's newest relative of the HTC One series has been cleared - or is about to be cleared, at least, as its carrier suggests the late May shipping date as a reality for pre-order customers.

HTC EVO 4G LTE vs HTC One X
Now that the HTC EVO 4G LTE and the HTC One X have been released from customs – or so we’ve heard – we can start deciding which one we really want when we head to the store this week. What we’ve got here are two devices of the same mind, each with a 4.7-inch display, the same Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, and what very much appears the be the same camera on the back as well. The big difference then lies not in the hardware, but in the carrier – and with LTE on both devices, it might be a tough call – right?

Are you feeling the squeeze yet? The AT&T One X and EVO 4G LTE are facing stock shortages in the United States thanks to a block at customs ordered by the ITC back in December. HTC was found to infringe on one of Apple’s patents relating to context menus used when select phone numbers or email addresses. It hasn’t been clear exactly when the ban will be lifted, but HTC has released a statement saying that some phones have slipped through customs already.

Apple has managed to score a victory against HTC, with the ITC finding that its Android phones infringed a patent dealing with context menus. It may be short lived, however, as it has been discovered that HTC is shipping a custom version of Android in the United States without such context menus in order to circumvent the block. The Verge has confirmed that the AT&T HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE both exclude the infringing feature.

There’s always trouble in paradise: xda-developers forum users are having issues with the way HTC has implemented multitasking on the HTC One X. Users are reporting that memory management is too aggressive, with some apps being killed in the background a little faster than they'd like. HTC stock dives after Apple blocks smartphone shipments
HTC's stock price has been sent into a tumble, after imports of new HTC handsets into the US were blocked in customs by an Apple complaint to the ITC. The company had been riding high on positive reviews of the One X and EVO 4G LTE, but saw new supplies of the Android smartphones frozen indefinitely after the US International Trade Commission upheld Apple's complaint that the handsets infringe a patent held by the Cupertino company. HTC's share price has dropped over 6.5-percent since the news.

HTC One X Review (AT&T)
