When the invitation for HTC's mysterious June 24th press event came in earlier this week, we speculated that it could see the launch of the HTC Hero. After all, the third Android handset is already showing up in leaked promo videos, suggesting it's teetering on the edge of availability. Now, Chinese paper Economic Daily News is reporting that yes, not only will the Hero drop on the 24th, but a second version of the smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard. Read The Full Story

HTC event June 24th: Could the HTC Hero launch?

HTC have scheduled a mysterious press event on Wednesday, June 24th. To be held in London, UK, there's no suggestion of what device the event will launch; the HTC Snap, though not yet generally available, seems an unlikely option given that it was first announced all the way back in April, and the HTC Touch Pro2, while a flagship Windows Mobile device, has been well-publicized since its debut at Mobile World Congress in February. It's possible that HTC could be announcing the Hero, their third Google Android device. A promo video for the touchscreen smartphone leaked late last week - you can see it after the cut - looking pretty much completed, and the smartphone itself has been spotted in the wild and even had its Android ROM leaked. You can read our first day and second day highlights for the full details, but perhaps the most interesting news was Google’s Wave demo for iPhone and Android, and Andy Rubin’s confirmation that there should be 18-20 Android handsets on the market by the end of the year. A video promo for the HTC Hero Android smartphone has shown up online, demonstrating the handset's new "Rosie" UI. No details regarding the origins of the video are known, but it appears to be an official HTC demo showing the angular handset running through its new OS. HTC's third Android device, the HTC Hero, has seemingly been snapped in the wild. Previewed as part of HTC's 2009 smartphone leak back in January - then rocking an eye-wateringly vivid pink color scheme - the Hero seems to have adopted a more subdued casing for its public appearance; we're also noticing that, as the render suggested, HTC really have dropped the trackball.
