HTC Desire HD free on contract; Amazon say Desire Z £500 SIM-free on Oct 18

Carriers have begun throwing their wireless hats into the HTC ring, after the smartphone company confirmed that the new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z would have broad availability across most of the UK networks.  T-Mobile UK has announced that their Desire HD will be priced from free on a £40 24-month agreement, while Vodafone will only say that they are indeed planning to offer the HD. It fell through the cracks a little at HTC's press event earlier - two new uberphones like the Desire HD and Desire Z will have that effect - but we're quietly excited about the upcoming HTC Media Link wireless DLNA streaming adapter.  Introduced as part of the company's new Sense evolution, the compact box works with the two new handsets and allows you to stream media to TVs that lack integrated DLNA support. We’ve just grabbed some hands-on time with HTC’s new Desire HD, the company’s new 4.3-inch flagship, and we’re very impressed.  Built around a huge WVGA display – the same as US users have been enjoying up until now in the shape of the EVO 4G – it’s a solid, hefty chunk of a smartphone thanks to the metal construction.

HTC has officially announced the HTC Desire HD, a 4.3-inch Android smartphone with the company’s new HTC Sense, and its QWERTY sibling the Desire Z.  Each clad in an aluminum body, the HTC Desire Z uses the company’s new “Z Hinge” design for easier typing.
