HTC Desire HD ICS update still on track

At the start of the week a Telus upgrade schedule plan was discovered that showed the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Desire HD had been cancelled. The carrier cited poor performance as the reason why, although it wasn’t clear if the cancellation extended to unlocked and international models. Android Central reached out to HTC to get the official word, and the company has responded by saying that the update is still on track.

If you take a moment to think about the oldest Android device that will be receiving an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, the HTC Desire HD would be near the top of the list. The handset would certainly be up to the task, featuring a single-core Snapdragon S2 processor and 768MB of RAM. GSMArena has discovered an OS upgrade schedule from Telus that would indicate the Desire HD may not be receiving an update to Ice Cream Sandwich after all.

Gingerbread for HTC Incredible S and Desire HD goes OTA today

HTC has begun updating two of its more recent Android handsets to 2.3 Gingerbread, confirming that the OTA update for the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Incredible S is now live. Confirmed on HTC's support page, Mobile Bulgaria spotted, the update will be flagged up by the two smartphones in the Android notification bar, and then delivered via WiFi or 3G.

HTC has confirmed its next batch of Android updates, with Android Honeycomb coming through the pipe for some of the most popular devices of the past few months. An HTC spokesperson told SlashGear that "We are excited to announce that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2."

myTouch 4G vs Desire HD benchmarks

T-Mobile's myTouch 4G is currently going through the rigors of testing in the run-up to its full review, but preliminary benchmarking is already suggesting that it's the fastest Android smartphone around.  What's curious, however, is the performance difference between the myTouch 4G and another recent HTC smartphone with identical core hardware, the Desire HD we reviewed earlier this week.  On paper, both handsets have the same latest-gen 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor paired with 768MB of RAM; in testing, the myTouch 4G is coming out significantly ahead.

The online component to HTC's latest version of their Sense interface for Android smartphones, HTCSense.com, has gone live and is now accepting sign-ups.  Announced alongside the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z last month, the new site allows users to remotely access messaging content stored on their device from the browser, locate and wipe their handset if it's lost, send content including mapping directions to the phone, and download new multimedia.

HTC Desire Z dropping sooner & cheaper says Amazon; new HTC Desire HD listing tips £540 price

Amazon's listing for the HTC Desire Z which we spotted last week has been updated, and both price and release date are headed in the directions we prefer the most: down and soon.  The Desire Z is now tipped to arrive on October 11th - previously it was set to drop on the 18th - and Amazon are offering it SIM-free at £429.99 rather than the RRP of £499.99.  Meanwhile it's also been joined by a listing for the HTC Desire HD.
