, Oct 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

Nokia's Lumia 920 has been prematurely priced up for its US-exclusive launch on AT&T, with Best Buy spilling the competitive costs for the Windows Phone 8 handset. The 32GB 4G smartphone will be $149.99 with a new, two-year AT&T agreement, according to Best Buy's listing, while unactivated it will set shoppers back $599.99. However, even undercutting most mainstream smartphones by fifty bucks won't make it the cheapest Windows Phone 8 flagship. Read The Full Story

Nokia’s Elop: Lumia is “a step above” HTC’s Windows Phones

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has dismissed concerns that the Lumia 920 will suffer from not being Microsoft’s “signature” Windows Phone, with HTC instead taking that crown, arguing that the perceived advantage is “ambiguous.” Asked whether Nokia felt slighted or sidelined at HTC inking a deal with Microsoft to put the Windows Phone 8X and 8S at the core of its new advertising campaign, Elop insisted that there’s more to Lumia than just Windows Phone itself. “We could have called our devices Windows Phone 920 or whatever,” the chief exec told Wired, ”but we felt it was important to say that we stand for something a step above.”

The good news is that, even without a subsidy to help out, both Windows Phone 8 devices undercut key rivals like the iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S III. Read The Full Story

Windows Phone 8X by HTC Hands-on

, Sep 19th 2012 Discuss [0]

Cumbersome name; classy hardware. The Windows Phone 8X by HTC owes its awkward nomenclature to a deal that might prove HTC’s salvation and Nokia’s frustration: the company has inked an agreement with Microsoft to make the 8X the “signature handset” of Windows Phone 8, after apparently convincing the software firm that the new flagship suitably “embodied” the OS’ spirit. We caught up with HTC to spend some time with the 8X and to see if we’d end up similarly charmed.
