UMID M2 in development: HSPA/WiMAX super-slim MID

Details of UMID's roadmap have emerged, which indicate the company's upcoming M2 follow-up to the recently-launched UMID M1. As lime-green edged netbooks went, LG pretty much had the floor to itself at CES with the LG-X120, but its taken them this long to deliver some details along with the detailing. Huawei have announced their latest wireless modem, the i-Mo, which will debut at Mobile World Congress next week. The Huawei i-Mo, which is apparently the size of a "small key chain", has both an HSDPA/HSUPA USB modem and a WiFi b/g chip on board for sharing the connection with other devices. Nokia have unveiled their latest XpressMusic cellphone, the Nokia 5630, which will make its official debut at Mobile World Congress next week. The compact candybar measures just 12mm thick and runs the S60 OS; Nokia include a 4GB microSD card in the box, and the 5630 has dedicated music control keys on the left-hand side, together with a standard 3.5mm headphone socket. Fujitsu have added high-speed 3G connectivity to a number of models in both their notebook and Tablet PC ranges. TIM ASUS Eee PC 1000H GO with integrated HSUPA

ASUS and Italian carrier TIM have announced a partnership to offer the Eee PC 1000H GO with integrated 3.5G HSUPA. The netbook will sell alongside the ASUS Eee PC 901 GO, already available from the carrier, and run Windows XP Home on the usual Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard-drive. Two color options will be available, "pearl white" and "galaxy black", with TIM and Alice Mobile (the carrier's mobile broadband brand) logos. Read The Full Story

In September T-Mobile Germany began offering the Acer Aspire One with integrated 3G; however the factory fit WWAN modem has been an elusive option for the rest of us. The BenQ Joybook Lite U101 was first announced last month, and at the time it looked like another case of netbook-by-numbers. It's only just now launched in Hong Kong, and according to these BenQ slides we may have missed a couple of distinctive features (as long as you remember that, in netbooks, "distinctive" can mean as little as an extra memory card supported). ASUS Eee PC 901 gets HSUPA high-speed WWAN

ASUS have announced an HSDPA/HSUPA option for the Eee PC 901 series of netbooks, which will enable the ultraportables to access high-speed cellular data networks when on the move.
