Nokia have announced their latest Series 40 cellphone, the 6260 Slide.  The focus here is on high-speed internet access, search and sharing, with search engines and “points of interest” linked straight from the home-screen, together with 3G HSDPA/HSUPA, WiFi and A-GPS.

Hands-on experience with ECS’ G10IL netbook earlier in the year flagged up a surprising absence of integrated 3G WWAN; surprising, we say, because ECS had used that fact as one of their key selling points.  Now it all becomes clear: if you want integrated HSDPA/HSUPA you actually want the J10IL – just a few letters down the alphabet but a whole lot more connectivty.

ASUS and Italian carrier TIM have announced a partnership to offer the Eee PC 1000H GO with integrated 3.5G HSUPA.  The netbook will sell alongside the ASUS Eee PC 901 GO, already available from the carrier, and run Windows XP Home on the usual Atom 1.6GHz N270 processor with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard-drive.  Two color options will be available, “pearl white” and “galaxy black”, with TIM and Alice Mobile (the carrier’s mobile broadband brand) logos.

In September T-Mobile Germany began offering the Acer Aspire One with integrated 3G; however the factory fit WWAN modem has been an elusive option for the rest of us.  As the breakdown of the netbook proved, however, fitting your own 3G modem shouldn’t be too difficult a task: the intrepid tnkgrl has done just that, slotting a mini-PCIe HSUPA/HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS card into the 8.9-inch netbook.

The BenQ Joybook Lite U101 was first announced last month, and at the time it looked like another case of netbook-by-numbers.  It’s only just now launched in Hong Kong, and according to these BenQ slides we may have missed a couple of distinctive features (as long as you remember that, in netbooks, “distinctive” can mean as little as an extra memory card supported).  The screen is the key difference, being true 16:9 aspect rather than the more typical 16:10.
