Leaving Las Vegas: A CTIA Tech Travelogue

I was at CTIA last week pitching various column ideas to SlashGear Editor Vincent Nguyen, and he shot them down, one by one. An analysis of the Kindle vs. iPad? No, SlashGear has covered that more than once, and we’ll all be writing hands-on reports next week. How the digital home environment has changed? New columnist Ben Bajarin just used that theme as his debut for SlashGear. How I lived on loaner laptops, cellphones and 3G modems last week when our town was out of power? Too close to Michael Gartenberg’s recent column on traveling with just a cellphone. Apparently, the big stuff is covered. So instead, I’m going to try to provide a look into how one analyst covers a trade show: a tech travelogue, of sorts.

HTC EVO 4G: where will I get WiMAX?

, Mar 24th 2010 Discuss [1]

So, you're tempted by Sprint's HTC EVO 4G, and frankly who can blame you?  If our all-too-brief hands-on play with the WiMAX-packing Android 2.1 smartphone taught us anything, it's that HTC have taken the best of the HD2, slapped on an arguably more alluring OS and created the sort of superphone we scoffed at Google for describing the Nexus One as.  Plenty has been made of Sprint's 4G promises, but that got us wondering: exactly who will get to enjoy the HTC EVO 4G's WiMAX connectivity? T-Mobile USA have started 2010 kicking, promising a speedy HSPA+ roll-out over the coming twelve months as it updates its existing HSPA 7.2 data service.  It's finding time for a few quick jabs at American rivals, however, suggesting that "while other carriers talk about 4G plans and the promise of compatible devices, T-Mobile will speed ahead with HSPA+ deployments across the bulk of its 3G footprint this year".  There's also a knowing nod to - we're guessing - the Google Nexus One... BendBroadband introduces first commercial use of HSPA+

, Dec 16th 2009 Discuss [0]

Because the company has officially launched its next-generation wireless broadband service, touting HSPA+. And while it may not be able to reach the full capacity of the technology as we know it, there is absolutely no reason why BendBroadband customers should not be excited about this launch. , Aug 19th 2009 Discuss [0]

Everyone seems to be browsing the internet on their mobile phone now a days, but let's be honest: up until recently, it wasn't the greatest of experiences. Why? Because we weren't getting all that we could. Flash player has been something of a rarity, but it's starting to peek its much-needed head out more and more, even sneaking on devices like the Samsung Jet. And now it looks like Research In Motion (RIM) is starting to see that Flash is the way to go. But, unlike Samsung's Jet, RIM doesn't plan on holding back. Read The Full Story

Could this be Nokia's upcoming Internet Tablet?  Having heard little about the likely Maemo powered refresh from the company for a couple of months now, both the image you see here (more after the cut) and an FCC filing have appeared in short succession.  Both the device, and the FCC diagram, seem to match the leaked image of what was called the N900 "Rover" Internet Tablet from May.
