T-Mobile Germany Acer Aspire One 3G offer: €1 netbook with 2yr HSDPA contract

T-Mobile Germany have announced a deal which will see them selling a heavily-subsidized Acer Aspire One netbook along with 3G WWAN data access.  The setup, which will be internal an HSDPA modem, is similar to that recently announced by Vodafone in the UK, who have an exclusive European deal with Dell to offer 3G versions of the Inspiron Mini 9 netbook. Vodafone UK offers ‘free’ Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook with 3G contract

Earlier this month Vodafone announced its intention to sell the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook with integrated 3G WWAN connectivity in Europe.  At the time, pricing was an unknown; now the carrier has confirmed that, in the UK at least, it will be giving the netbook "free" as long as users sign up to a new two-year data contract. T-Mobile planning further 3G expansion in run-up to Android G1 launch

T-Mobile USA has announced plans to have 3G HSDPA coverage in 21 markets by mid-October, a schedule no doubt prompted by the imminent announcement of the T-Mobile G1, the first Android-powered cellphone on the market.  The data-centric handset will be able to take advantage of up to 1Mbps download speeds, and will be announced on September 23rd (at an event Android Community will be Live Blogging). MSI Wind U120 and U91 in development: HSDPA, dual-core & more RAM

MSI's Wind netbook was the parallel success to ASUS' Eee, with the former being a single offering while the latter attempted to cater for every slight difference with dozens of models.  Now MSI are planning their next generation netbooks, with two new versions in mind: a replacement to the existing 10-inch U100, called the U120, and a new 8.9-inch U91.  Under the hood, despite the best efforts of VIA with their Nano CPU, it looks as though Intel's dual-core Atom 330 will be doing duty, with maximum RAM increased to 2GB. T-Mobile 3G reaches Phoenix in $127m expansion project

We always like to see more 3G coverage in the US, so it's good to hear that T-Mobile have further expanded their high-speed voice and data network to Phoenix.  Apparently on-track to cover at least 20 markets by the end of 2008, the Phoenix installation has apparently cost in excess of $127m, that figure spent on both infrastructure and spectrum. Nokia N79 & N85 multimedia phones Hands On

Nokia had the usual array of handsets out at CTIA this week, but of particular interest were two new N-series devices announced last month.  The N79 and N85 are a candybar and slider respectively, and both feature a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a dual-LED flash, HSDPA and WiFi.

Vodafone to sell 3G HSDPA Dell Inspiron Mini 9 in Europe

Vodafone has announced that it has secured a deal with Dell to sell 3G-equipped versions of the Inspiron Mini 9.  The netbook launched today with a WWAN option physically possible but mysteriously absent in the customization screens; Vodafone, who have supported Dell with WWAN previously, have an exclusive deal to sell the HSDPA netbook in Europe. Archos' new range of Internet Media Tablets are now available to order on Amazon, complete with a number of accessories.  The online retailer is listing all three versions of the Archos 5 - with 60GB, 120GB and 250GB storage - and both Archos 7 versions - 160GB and 320GB - but not the Archos 5g, which has a built-in HSDPA modem. Fresh news on the Gigabyte M528 saga, as Expansys do an abrupt about-turn and confirm that yes, the Mobile Internet Device does in fact include a 3G HSDPA modem.  Previously the reseller had suggested that the MID, which is up for preorder on both its US and UK sites, would not ship with 3G but leave it as an option.  Read The Full Story

Archos 5 & 7 PMPs: fingerprint magnets but promising

Archos' new PMP range has been long anticipated, and the first hands-on reports are already coming in.  GenerationMP3 spent some time with both the 4.8-inch Archos 5 and the 7-inch Archos 7, and despite the casings being real fingerprint magnets they've come away impressed.  Archos have apparently switched the audio processing chip and are claiming far better sound quality; they've also included both the Flash-compatible Opera browser and the WebTV & Radio plugin, which on previous models were paid options. Archos started hinting at new products last week, and the curtains have finally been drawn on the company's new Internet Media Tablets.  Three new models have been introduced, the Archos 5 and Archos 7, which both include high-resolution touchscreens, WiFi, up to 320GB storage and slender casings, and the Archos 5g which adds 3G HSDPA cellular broadband.
