HP have outed their latest G-series laptop, and its had an injection of ENVY styling.  The HP G62t packs a choice of Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, together with up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 500GB storage and integrated Intel graphics, but it’s the pricing that’s most interesting: whereas an ENVY 15 will set you back $1,300 upwards, the G62t starts from $599.99.

HP’s multitouch all-in-one range is the latest to feel the cool touch of Core i7 on its flanks, with the launch of the HP TouchSmart 600 Quad series.  Now available with either Intel’s Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz CPU or Core i7-720QM 1.73GHz CPU, the updated TouchSmart 600 packs up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, up to 1.5TB of HDD and a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT230M graphics chipset.

One of the more talked about tablets at CES 2010 turned out to be one the manufacturer wasn't even officially debuting; Microsoft CES Steve Ballmer took HP's unnamed slate up on stage and then proceeded to tell us very little about it.  Happily HP themselves have decided to spill some more of their touchscreen beans, and it turns out they've been working on the device for about five years and even had it ready two years ago.

Pico-projectors continue to weasel their way into other gadgets, and next up could be the humble laptop.  According to Monty Wong, vice president and manager of personal computing systems group at HP Taiwan, HP are planning to release a pico-projector equipped notebook that would likely have the projection module where normally the webcam is positioned.

Hewlett-Packard has revealed to the Wall Street Journal its so-called “Wall of Touch”, a new design of its TouchSmart technology – one that doesn’t actually require users to physically touch the screen.  Its prototype form is apparently already in use by a smattering of companies.

Apple have announced record sales successes in recent quarters, but according to two research firms the Cupertino company is still unable to keep up with budget Windows-based computers when it comes to sheer number of sales.  Both Gartner and IDC have released their estimates for the past three months, and each reckon Apple have fallen to fifth place behind HP, Dell, Acer and Toshiba.

USB 3.0 gear was everywhere at CES last week with all sorts of gear using the new and much faster interface. USB 3.0 hardware may be getting unveiled in droves, but computers and computer hardware to support the specification are still rather limited. HP has announced that it will include USB 3.0 support on select Envy 15 models.

Looks like Lenovo’s Skylight is going to have some competition, as early details of an HP and Qualcomm Smartbook collaboration are revealed.  According to the Qualcomm press release, the HP Smartbook will run Android and use the 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8250 chipset, along with 3G and WiFi for always-on connectivity.

Microsoft’s CES 2010 keynote is only just starting – plagued by power cuts and temperamental on-stage PCs – but already Steve Ballmer’s surprise tablet unveil has been scooped.  The culprit is, ironically, Microsoft itself, prematurely posting the press release to their media site.  As for that mystery tablet, despite pre-show rumors its turned out not to be the Courier; instead, it’s turned out to be an as-yet unnamed HP touchscreen device.

Thinking of a new Windows 7 desktop with multitouch?  HP may have just the setup; they’ve announced their latest desktop PC, the HP Pavilion Elite HPE, along with a new, multitouch-capable 21.5-inch LCD, the HP Compaq L2105tm, at CES 2010.  The Pavilion Elite HPE will be available with various Intel Core 2 Quad, Core i7 and AMD Phenom II processors, along with up to 1TB of storage, NVIDIA or ATI graphics and Windows 7.
