Rise of the VR-ready Backpack PC: Aorus, HP, MSI, ZOTAC

This week both HP and MSI have revealed Backback PCs - computers that act like desktops but fit on your back, preparing you for a full-range, untethered VR experience. It would seem at first as though they would be leading the way - most average citizens have never seen a Backpack PC before, right? But that's just not true - at least three different groups have made the Backpack PC a real, working model before now - but only now are we truly starting to reach a first stride.

This backpack PC works with enough processing power to run an HTC VIVE VR headset and comes with replaceable batteries - or swappable batteries, if you prefer - to keep you inside the VR zone potentially forever. Which is radical. Unfortunately you're not going to be able to just go to your local PC shop and buy this piece of machinery.

HP Elite x3 smartphone, laptop might actually launch in June

Despite Microsoft's execs' best attempts, the company's mobile strategy, at least as far as actual smartphone devices go, is uncertain at best. However, that's not stopping a few of Microsoft's key friends from diving in without fear. Acer continues to promote its Jade Primo, for example, one of the few non-Lumia Windows 10 smartphones that can boast of Continuum for mobile support. Soon, HP might join the fray. According to a source, the company's intriguing Elite x3 is pretty much on schedule for a June launch, which could spice things up a bit for the Windows 10 mobile market.

Gartner, IDC: PC shipments off to a bad start in 2016

The PC market just can't seem to catch a break. After 2015 was practically declared the worst year for PC sales, it seems that 2016 might be even worse. At least if figures for the first quarter are omens of things to come. While differing slightly on specific numbers, both Gartner and IDC agree on one depressing thing: PC shipments have substantially declined last quarter compared to 2015's opening quarter. While both do see some hope near the end of the year, that salvation might come a bit too late for the ailing market.

Dear HP: Your new logo is amazing and you should use it everywhere

This week we got our first look at the HP Spectre 13.3 - and with it, the newest (and yet old) HP logo. This logo is fantastic. It was originally designed all the way back in 2011 by the folks at Moving Brands, and here in 2016, HP tells us that they'll use the logo for their premium products only. They also suggested that they'd also wanted to use the full "Hewlett Packard" branding on high-end machines for this year - that is, until they split the company in late 2015, and the rights to the name went in a different direction.
