It’s less than a week now from the final reveal of whatever Samsung has in store for us near the Autumn edition of CTIA, and would you look at that, someone’s posted a photo of the next Google hero phone, clear as a bell. What’s actually going on here is a cleaning up of the image we’ve all been staring at for about 19 hours now released by Samsung early this morning, one that showed off the next Samsung device amid signs that it’d be released at Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2011: Google Edition next week. This is one good looking device.

Shadowgun for Android Review [Video]

As you might well know, it’s not often that we review a single app for a mobile device here on SlashGear – not unless its so massive, so awesome, so significant that it cannot be ignored. That’s what we’ve got right here, folks, a third-person shooter by the name of Shadowgun, made by Madfinger games for iOS and Android – today the news being the optimized version for the Android-based NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. We’ve checked the game out on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it’s time to show you the next plateau for immersive mobile gaming.

Android Honeycomb Paid App sales soar claims Google

Google is claiming more than a four-fold increase in paid app sales for Android Honeycomb tablets in comparison to Android Gingerbread device users, according to the company's latest stats. Although Gingerbread sales are considerably higher than any previous iteration of Android for smartphones, Little Fluffy Toys reports from the search giant's Android Developer Lab in London, UK this morning, Google seems to be saying that it's tablets which have succeeded in opening Android users' wallets. Watch out iPad: Even indirect Fire can cook Apples

Analysts and pundits are queuing up to point out the Kindle Fire‘s shortcomings, and how Amazon’s entrant to the tablet market is “not a true iPad competitor.” Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster went so far as to estimate Amazon was swallowing fifty bucks loss on each Kindle Fire sold, crossing its fingers that multimedia sales would make up for it, and highlighted the slate’s lacking storage, absent cameras and non-existent 3G option. The idea, it seems, is that because Amazon hasn’t photocopied Apple’s strategy – or, indeed, followed Android tablet manufacturers in trying to compete on specifications alone – and since the Kindle Fire’s price is thus less than half that of the iPad, they “target different segments” and the iPad is in the clear. That seems pretty short-sighted.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus official with HSPA+

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, a 7-inch dual-core Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet set to go on sale by the end of October. Slightly smaller – though thicker – than the Galaxy Tab 7.7, the new Tab 7.0 Plus has an unspecified 1.2GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+ for up to 21Mbps downloads and 5.76Mbps uploads, and twin cameras: 3-megapixels with autofocus and an LED flash on the back, and 2-megapixels up front.

Toshiba Thrive 7″ Tablet takes Honeycomb smaller, rubbery

Toshiba has revealed its latest Android Honeycomb tablet, the Toshiba Thrive 7″, as as the name suggests it’s a 7-inch version of the existing 10-inch Thrive. Running at 1280 x 800 resolution and using what Toshiba calls AutoBrite, Adaptive Display and Resolution+ technology for better graphics and outdoor visibility, the Thrive 7″ runs Android 3.2 on NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 paired with twin cameras and either 16GB or 32GB of storage.

The best-laid plans of Android tablet manufacturers are unlikely to see a significant change in slate sales this holiday season, analysts Gartner have predicted, with Apple's iPad 2 likely to maintain its dominance in the market. According to the report, while Apple's marketshare is expected to drop in 2011, it will still by far outweigh that of rivals: down from 83-percent in 2010 to an estimated 73.4-percent this year. Samsung prices Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi in US

Samsung US has officially priced up its smaller Android tablet, slapping price tags on the WiFi-only versions of the Galaxy Tab 8.9. The 16GB version will be $469, Samsung has confirmed, while the 32GB version will be $569.
