Toshiba promises Thrive fix to wake somnolent slate

The troublesome sleep issue affecting some owners of Toshiba's Thrive Android tablet should be addressed by early next week, the company has said, promising a new firmware update to fix the problem. According to Toshiba, the new software will be released via the on-device Service Station utility, and will mean owners no longer have to reset their slate in order to get it powered up and functional again.

HTC Puccini Tablet Press Images Leaked

It appears that HTC's newest effort in the Android business has been revealed in real live photo form. That or there's a rather talented mock-up artist amongst us creating a masterpiece when they should be working for HTC. This tablet takes a step away from their previous tablet, the HTC Flyer, in that it's not White (though it's HTC EVO View brother certainly isn't either), and that it's got one solid piece covering the entirety of its back instead of the EVO-ish three piece situation. This tablet will almost certainly be released before the dropping of Androids 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this fall, and will therefor be running something along the lines of Android 3.1 or 3.2 Honeycomb upon release.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE Launch Date July 28

Verizon's version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, aka their 4G LTE model, has been confirmed for July the 28th, aka two days from the day this post is posted. This is not the first time this tablet has been released into the wild, as a Wi-Fi edition, but it is the first time it's been connected to a carrier, and certainly the first time it's been on Verizon. Your humble narrator has had the honor of checking out both the standard edition (see review on Android Community for this) and the Google I/O Limited Edition of this device already - can't wait for those sweet LTE speeds!

iPad stays top tablet: Faces growing Android challenge as Amazon circles

Apple's iPad continues to dominate the tablet market, with global shipments up to 9.3m units according to the latest figures, though its percentage marketshare has declined by over 33-percent thanks to increasing competition from consumer-centric rivals. 61.3-percent of tablets sold worldwide run iOS, analysts Strategy Analytics calculate, with Android taking the lion's share of what remains, at 30.1-percent.

Lenovo has officially announced a trio of slates, including the IdeaPad Tablet K1 and ThinkPad Tablet we saw leaked in press shots earlier, as well as the IdeaPad P1. The K1 and ThinkPad Tablets each run Android 3.1 Honeycomb on NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 2 processor, and are the first slates to be Netflix-certified; meanwhile, the IdeaPad P1 runs Windows 7 on a 1.5GHz Intel Atom processor.
