Honeywell WiFi Smart Thermostat adds voice control for Nest rebuke

Honeywell WiFi Smart Thermostat adds voice control for Nest rebuke

Honeywell may not have the sort of geek-kudos Nest does, but it's aiming to change that with a new voice-controlled touchscreen thermostat that hooks into the cloud. The Honeywell WiFi Smart Thermostat with Voice Control is fronted by a finger-friendly color display, but by saying "Hello, thermostat" it can also be controlled by naturally phrased speech commands such as "make it much cooler."

Qualcomm’s wireless bulb wants to outshine hue with WiFi

Roll on the smart home: Qualcomm has an eye on being the glue that sticks wireless home automation together, and it's demonstrating that with some proof-of-concept remote control lightbulbs. Thanks to a tiny new Qualcomm Atheros chipset, the demo light hooks up via WiFi to a simple Android app which allows for remote on/off control, dimming, and even timed shutoff. Philips hue LightStrips and Bloom Review

Philips has been making multi-colored lighting for some time, but even so the hue system came as a surprise last year. Samsung touts Tizen for “internet of things” convergence glue

Samsung may not have made much of Tizen so far, but sees the little-known OS as being the key to its multi-platform convergence strategy, not Google's Android. The platform, building on MeeGo in partnership with Intel and other OEMs, may not have produced its first commercial Samsung phone, Samsung Electronics CEO J.K. Shin conceded to CNET, but that doesn't mean the company is waning in its enthusiasm for Tizen. In fact, Shin argues, the need - and business case - for Tizen has never been stronger.
