RED Scarlet adds HDRx video support for extra $1,000

Tell most would-be customers that you're adding $1,000 to the price tag of whatever it is they're waiting for, and you'd prompt a revolution; that just goes to show how unusual - and unusually dedicated - high-end camera manufacturer RED's customers are, since they've not only accepted a $1k increase on the upcoming RED Scarlet, but welcomed it.  The extra money is in return for HDRx functionality, something the company has been talking about since mid-September only in relation to the more expensive RED EPIC. HDCP anti-copy software exploit released: can crack 1080p in real-time

, Sep 29th 2010 Discuss [1]

Intel's suggestion that they didn't expect a software exploit using the cracked HDCP anti-copy protection seems to have been a red rag to a bull (or at least to the coding community), as its taken less than two weeks for just such an exploit to be developed.  Rob Johnson and Mikhail Rubnich have created an open-source decoding system which they're describing as a proof of concept, yet which is still capable of cracking HDCP on 1080p sources in real-time (on a powerful enough machine). Flip Video UltraHD and MinoHD get refreshed; new accessory program includes snap-on Pico

, Sep 20th 2010 Discuss [0]

We've seen quite a few companies looking to steal Flip's crown for point-and-shoot camcorders - JVC's PICSIO models, for instance, or the HP V5020u - but Cisco aren't willing to sit back and watch that happen.  A new range of Flip Video cameras has been launched, the UltraHD 8GB and 4GB, and the MinoHD 8GB and 4GB, each capable of 720p 60fps recording. DisplayLink USB 3.0 Chip Focusing on Any Device, Any Display Connectivity

, Sep 13th 2010 Discuss [0]

At this year's IDF, it looks like one of the main focuses is connectivity. After Intel outlined their own plans to feature "smart devices," with a focus on their connectivity, it looks like it's time for DisplayLink to keep their promise made at the end of the year, last year. And sure enough, the company has just made official their newest USB 3.0 chip platform. Read The Full Story

Why I don’t want my 50-inch plasma anymore

I love my 50-inch Panasonic plasma. It’s my high-quality companion when I watch a movie, flip on a baseball game, or play some video games. And along the way, it delivers the kind of visual fidelity that makes most people respond with a, “wow, this has a really great picture.”

Canon XF100 and XF105 Announced, Due Early 2011

, Aug 31st 2010 Discuss [6]

As far as cameras and camcorders go, there seems to be a hard push for the consumer market. Of course, consumers buy things, so if you can shove all your HD recording into a small package, why not market it to the mainstream market, right? Canon doesn't want to forget about the "prosumer," let alone the professional market, and that's exactly why they've brought the XF100 and XF105 into the limelight for a few minutes here. All of the great tech found in a big, shoulder camera, but without all of that big, shoulder mounted necessity. Read The Full Story
