Viliv HD5 1080p PMP gets listed; launch imminent?

, May 26th 2010 Discuss [1]

We've generally stuck to Viliv's MID and netbook ranges before now, but the company's HD5 PMP deserves a second look.  Built around a 5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, the HD5 supports a bevy of video codecs at up to 1080p HD resolution, complete with an HDMI port for hooking up your big-screen TV.  Announced officially back at CES 2010, it's fresh to the company's website and presumably preparing for an imminent launch. HTC EVO 4G Review

, May 24th 2010 Discuss [19]

Long anticipated, hugely specified and just plain huge: there’s a lot to like about the HTC EVO 4G. The first WiMAX phone in the US brings with it the promise of DSL-like mobile data access along with the flexibility of Google’s Android OS, complete with HTC’s now-legendary hardware quality and flexible Sense UI. On the flip side it’s nowhere near cheap and WiMAX coverage is marginal. Is this new superphone faster than a speeding bullet, or is that just how quickly it drains its battery? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

OmniVision Takes Samsung’s Crown of World’s Smallest 1080p Camera

, May 17th 2010 Discuss [1]

All of these companies get passed around so much, from providing one thing to another, that it can be hard to keep up. Samsung, which just last month announced that they had the smallest 1080p camera module on the market, have now just been usurped. And, sure enough, it's from OmniVision, which probably got bumped out of the iPhone HD game by LG Innotek. It's a vicious world, the tech world, but we're happy that we're viewing it from the looking glass. Read The Full Story

Sony NEX-7 with 1080p coming later in 2010

, May 13th 2010 Discuss [3]

Sony's NEX-3 and NEX-5 are all well and good, but with high definition recording topping out at 1080/60i there's a distinct lack of 1080p HD goodness in the range.  According to EOSHD's sources - previously accurate in their NEX predictions - that'll be taken care of with the Sony NEX-7 later in the year.  That camera will use an APS-C chip, though a different one to what's found in the NEX-3/5, capable of 1080p@60, 1080p@24 and 720p@120/60 for super slow-motion. Sharp 3D camera module unveiled: headed to Nintendo 3DS?

, May 12th 2010 Discuss [4]

Sharp are already tipped to be among the companies Nintendo is considering for the 2D/3D display on the upcoming Nintendo 3DS; how interesting would it be if they also supplied the handheld with a 3D-capable camera?  Sharp have just announced a 3D camera module for mobile devices that's not only capable of capturing twin 720p HD video streams but of synchronizing the footage and controlling the optical axis. Canon IXUS 300 HS digicam: 10MP with 720p HD & HDMI [Update: US launch too]

, May 11th 2010 Discuss [0]

If we're blunt, Canon's new IXUS 300 HS point-and-shoot doesn't quite have the appeal of Sony's new NEX pair, but it promises to be a whole lot more affordable (and approachable for mainstream users) than the interchangeable lens models.  The IXUS 300 HS packs a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 3.8x optical zoom, and can capture 720p HD footage or 240fps super-slow-motion video. Update: Canon USA have announced the same camera, only as the Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH.  It'll arrive in the US at the end of May 2010, priced at $349.99. Read The Full Story

Sony concept AVCHD Exmor APS HD interchangeable-lens camcorder previewed [Video]

, May 11th 2010 Discuss [1]

It's not just Sony's α-series NEX-5 and NEX-3 digital cameras that the company envisages having interchangeable lenses; they've also revealed a concept AVCHD HD camcorder which would use the same E Mount lenses (or the A Mount adapter for regular DSLR lenses from the company's range).  According to the Sony blog, the so-far unnamed camcorder will arrive in the fall 2010; however AV Watch caught some live shots of what's presumably a non-functional mock-up over in Japan. Sony NEX-5 and NEX-3 ultra-compact DSLRs debut

, May 11th 2010 Discuss [0]

Sony have delivered on their promise of a new Micro Four Thirds style camera with not just one but two new models.  The Sony α NEX-5 and NEX-3 unsurprisingly bear a striking resemblance to the "interchangeable lens concept" shown earlier this year, and each have a new 14.2-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor; as well as stills, that's good for up to 1080i HD video recording on the NEX-5 and 720p on the NEX-3. More details on the ASUS Eee PC 1215N are seeping out, ahead of the netbook's expected debut on May 13th, and it's shaping up to be a pretty impressive ultraportable.  According to AllAboutEeePC the 1215N will indeed have the new dual-core 1.5GHz Pine Trail Atom N500 processor expected to hit production in July, together with NVIDIA's Ion GPU.  However, unlike the Eee PC 1215PN, the 1215N will support NVIDIA Optimus for automatic graphics switching.
