JBL Synchros S210BT hands-on: gesture controlled earbuds

JBL Synchros S210BT hands-on: gesture controlled earbuds

Without a doubt one of the strangest devices we saw this past week at CES 2015 were the JBL Synchros S210BT set of earbuds. They fit (snugly) in your ear in a normal enough manner, and they're wireless - nothing especially new there. But with the JBL Reflect Response and the JBL Synchros S210BT, you'll be using gesture control to move between tracks. Moving your hands left to right, right to left, up and down, you're able to do more than just control audio - you can answer calls, as well.

Gibson Trainer headphones target runners with safety LEDs

Gibson Trainer headphones target runners with safety LEDs

Many headphones targeted at runners are of the earbud variety, which is usually the preferred form for those out running. Still, there are those who prefer over-ear headphones, and Gibson has moved to satisfy those users with its new Trainer cans. The Gibson Trainer headphones have some features that make them particularly useful for runners, including embedded LED lights that are intended to make runners more visible -- and, thusly, more safe -- when jogging at night. The device was made in partnership with Usain Bolt.

Bang & Olufsen Play H8 wireless headphones hands-on

Acclaimed audio makers Bang & Olufsen are no strangers to the mobile industry, but here at CES 2015 they are unveiling some rather interesting products that represent a few firsts. Among these is the Play H8 headphones. B & O are positioning this as their first wireless headphones, but they are definitely more than just that. Not only do they offer active noise cancellation for an even better listening experience, they also have a touch interface that makes it easier to control your music on the go.

Phaz P2 headphones charge your gadget while you listen

Phaz P2 headphones charge your gadget while you listen

Phaz Music has introduced its new P2 headphones, a pair of stylish cans made with carbon fiber for a lightweight body. The light weight is despite the inclusion of an integrated battery, which is used to both power the headphones and to "boost" one's smartphone or other mobile device over USB. If the internal battery isn't charged, however, the headphones can also work in a "passive" non-powered state. All the while, this is joined by a couple of flashy color options to make the headphones stand out of the crowd.

Helios Bluetooth headphones use solar power to juice up

Helios Bluetooth headphones use solar power to juice up

Bluetooth headphones offer the distinct convenience of shedding the audio cable and allowing users to listen to their music unshackled. That convenience disappears, however, once the battery runs low, which requires you to plug them back in until there's enough power to go wireless again. Exod's Helios headphones address this by adding solar charging into the mix, allowing users to leave the device in sunlight when not in use to charge back up the internal battery, no cables necessary.

Wearhaus Arc turns headphones into social devices

Wearhaus Arc turns headphones into social devices

"Social headphones" might sound like an oxymoron, considering that wearing a pair shuts you in and shuts out the rest of the world. But that is exactly what Wearhaus is trying to pull off. Saying that music is also a social experience, they are designing the Wearhaus Arc, wireless headsets that can both let you enjoy your tunes by yourself or, if you're feeling pretty charitable, share it with others around you. And it's also designed to look fancy as well, with customizable LED lights.

Apple-owned Beats release Solo2 Wireless headphones

Apple-owned Beats release Solo2 Wireless headphones

The first headphones released by Beats by Dre since they've been acquired by Apple fully has come to fruition. This set of Solo2 wireless headphones is wireless for the first time. You'll also be able to connect this pair of headphones in with what they're calling a "RemoteTalk" cable if you've used up the 12 hours of battery time these phones contain when fully charged. They won't have a big Apple logo on their earpieces, but they'll certainly have Apple on the box - in the footnotes, at least.

FCC docs show Bluetooth Beats headphones incoming

FCC docs show Bluetooth Beats headphones incoming

It seems as though Apple may be readying a new set of Beats headphones for us, or at least an update to the existing lineup. The Solo2 is one of the more popular pair of Beats headphones around, and serve as a lower cost option to the Studio headset. A new FCC filing suggests we’re about to get a Bluetooth version of those headphones, but that’s not where the news ends. It seems Apple isn’t making the changes we previously assumed they might.
