Samsung demos 55″ OLED TV at World’s Fair

The company unveiled the 55-inch OLED TV at CES this year, saying that regular human beings would be able to buy it sometime in 2012 but neglecting to mention price. Dolby, Philips show off glasses-free 3D HD displays

Dolby and Philips have partnered to create a new 3D HD format and suite of technologies called Dolby 3D, which they unveiled at the NAB 2012 show in Las Vegas this week. The Dolby 3D format enables glasses-free 3D HD viewing for displays of any size, which allows 3D HD content to be delivered to any device, from HDTVs to tablets and smartphones. Read The Full Story

Sceptre offers next gen eco friendly 40-inch LCD TV

If you're in the market for a new TV that is cheap and green, Sceptre has a new product that fits the bill. The TV is called the X409BV-FHD and falls into the 40-inch category, but has a 38.5-inch viewable image. The set is compliant with the stringent Energy Star 5.3 guidelines so it costs only about $14 a year to run. The TV also has other important features to go along with the energy efficiency. Apple Television talk reignites with Sharp patent overlap

Long-standing rumors of a standalone Apple TV set continue to percolate, with suggestions that Foxconn parent Hon Hai’s display deal with Sharp, along with fresh Apple panel patents, lend weight to the HDTV whispers. The Cupertino company is apparently working on an advancement of Fringe Field Switching (FSS) systems suitable for HDTV-scale panels, with Patently Apple flagging up a recently granted patent for the TFT LCD display technology. FSS is currently used in Apple’s smaller devices, and relies on IPS display technology of which Sharp is a notable patent holder.

Sharp reveals 2012 AQUOS TV lineup

The folks at Sharp are this week revealing their 2012 lineup for televisions and it's the AQUOS brand they'll be sticking with for units ranging from a modest 42-inches all the way up to the gigantic 80-inch flagships. This lineup will bring the 5 and 6-series AQUOS LCD TVs with the relatively small 42-inch LC-42LE540U at $900 up to the 70-inch LC-70LE640U which will ring in at $3,000.
