House of Cards snubbed HBO for upstart Netflix

As House of Cards releases its second full season to Netflix, it’s become apparent that the internet-based video streaming company isn’t the upstart it once was. As HBO continues its upward trend between $4-5 billion in revenue over the past three years, Netflix pushes a much more booming rise, starting at just above $3 billion in revenue in 2011 and hitting at just above $4 billion in revenue in 2013. With the two companies readying for a battle of the revenues here, it would appear that the content battle has already been raging.

Showtime, HBO, and others deny losing subscribers to Netflix

Recently research firm NPD published a report that said major pay cable networks like Showtime, HBO, and Starz were losing subscribers to digital streaming firms like Netflix and others. The pay cable networks deny that claim. The NPD report said that the pay channels lost about 6% of their subscribers in the last two years while the online services like Netflix gained 4%.

There are a lot of fans of TV shows on HBO that would like to get access to HBO Go without having to subscribe to traditional cable television. HBO hasn't offered the ability to purchase its network as a streaming channel only and may not ever offer that ability. If you happen to live in an area served by Comcast the cable provider has a new deal that is as close as you'll get to subscribing to HBO only via the Internet.
