These ways include the iPad, iPhone, and Android phones and tablets as well - and now the Xbox 360 finally! Netflix CEO says he wants to watch HBO Go

In what seems like an unusual turn of events at first glance, the head of Netflix is taking to social media to talk about wanting to access HBO Go, not as a competing company executive but as a normal guy who just likes good entertainment. It's a very weird thing to see Hastings post on Facebook, since he has been very vocal about saying that HBO is Netflix's biggest competitor. But then again, his Facebook post is actually more focused on criticizing Comcast.

Microsoft has released today as promised an update for Xbox Live that adds Comcast Xfinity, MLB.tv, and HBO Go content to the Xbox 360 console. The Xbox's abundance of content paired with streamlined navigation, centralized search, and Kinect-powered voice and gesture control shows Google TV how it's supposed to be done and scoffs at the much rumored and yet to be seen Apple iTV.

Attention, Xbox 360 owners - you'll be prompted to download an Xbox Live update tomorrow. And if your home cable provider is Comcast, and/or you happen to be a fan of the many original shows on HBO, it'll be an update worth downloading. Both content providing companies will be adding their stamp to the growing catalog of Xbox Live streaming video content when the new firmware update is rolled out.

DirecTV has rolled out a new app for the iPad that gives users the ability to stream movies on demand, from anywhere that has a data connection. The app gives users unfiltered access to titles from HBO and Showtime, along with some original DirecTV programming as well as other pay TV networks. The new app also integrates social connectivity, allowing users to share what they're watching.

HBO blocks Apple TV iCloud ambitions

To go with the Apple TV update announced yesterday, 1080p content is coming to the iCloud movie service. Apple is also allowing people who upgrade to the new Apple TV re-download movies that they purchased on older units. Presumably, if that movie is available in 1080p they can grab the new resolution. However, it appears there's a caveat to the ability to re-download.

Netflix CEO wants to be part of your cable provider

Usually when you read a high-concept article about Netflix and what its impact is to the entire telecommunications industry, the streaming giant is depicted as a threat to traditional cable providers. But Netflix CEO Reed Hastings doesn't see it that way. He envisions a world where Netflix and pay TV providers can live together, and in fact, they could even be part of the same service some day. So far, the cable companies haven't exactly been that excited.

HBO Go Xbox 360 app coming on April 1

Hopefully this isn't an April Fool's joke, but HBO has announced that it will bring its streaming video service to the Xbox 360 in just a little more than a month. This would be the latest extension for the platform, which has already launched on set-top boxes like the Roku as well as Android and the iPhone/iPad. Of course, the service only works if customers have an existing HBO subscription with a participating provider.
