Lionsgate streaming service to join HBO and CBS in 2015

The studio behind The Hunger Games is set to join CBS and HBO in their efforts to add a streaming service to the masses. This is Lionsgate Films, and they’re being joined in their efforts by Tribeca Enterprises. This service will be launched in the first half of next year, and it’ll be called - oddly enough - "Tribeca Short List." This service will include John Wick, Crash, Monster’s Ball, The Hurt Locker, Juno, Ender’s Game, and Snitch. And don’t forget The Expendables - and a whole lot more.

Netflix stock plummets as HBO enters streaming race

This morning it was announced by HBO that they’d be offering up their own streaming service separate from Cable TV. That means Game of Thrones. It also means Girls, Boardwalk Empire, Veep, and a collection of AAA movies like Rush, Les Miserbles, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It also means that Netflix will have its first real competition since it went streaming itself all the way back in 2007.

Here’s why non-cable HBO may not be so great

For some, the point of cable is having HBO. Where else are you going to (legally) get Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire? If you’re a cord cutter, or at least want to be, we’ve got good news. The agreement, which Amazon - sparing no hyperbole - is describing as "unprecedented", is the first time HBO has licensed out its content to an online streaming service, and comes only days after Netflix announced it would be putting up its rates to offset the increased cost of bolstering the shows it offers.

Game of Thrones renewed by HBO for 2 more seasons (at least)

While we’re sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Game of Thrones Season 4’s release summoned a record for most-pirated piece of media over the past 24 hours, HBO has renewed the show’s contract. HBO released word today that the show would be renewed for two more seasons - and we’d not be surprised if it was renewed well beyond that.

HBO Go password sharing doesn’t bother HBO

HBO Go password sharing doesn’t bother HBO

Most of the streaming media companies out there get upset if they know users are sharing passwords. Typically, the sharing of a password is seen as a form of piracy and executives at the streaming firms tend to consider sharing to be costing them a subscriber. HBO has a refreshingly different opinion of password sharing for its HBO Go service.
