Xiaomi, Hasbro now crowdfunding a Transformer “tablet”

While Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is renowned for its myriad of fast-selling smartphones, its tablet selection, in contrast, is dreadfully sparse. It has just revealed one such device in the works, but this tablet is definitely more than meets the eye. If that line and the title above wasn't yet a dead giveaway, will come clean immediately. Xiaomi is crowdfunding what does seem to be a perfectly normal tablet, except it isn't. Made together with acclaimed toy maker Hasbro, this slab actually morphs into a robot in the vein of the Transformers line of toys.

3 new Transformers movies on the way, including Bumblebee spin-off

Listen up, Michael Bay fans, you're in for a lot more destructive robot action at the box office over the next few years. Despite the series being widely panned by critics (as well as many viewers), Paramount and Hasbro have decided that the world needs three more Transformers movies, and they've even scheduled release dates already. But what might be most interesting, for those who genuinely enjoy the movie franchise, anyway, is that the second of the three new films will be a spin-off focusing on everyone's favorite Autobot, Bumblebee.

Rey fans, rejoice! The Force Awakens Monopoly will feature the heroine

Star Wars fans who are also into board games were in an uproar this week, as it was discovered that a new version of Monopoly based on The Force Awakens was missing one of the new movie's most important characters. The game comes with four board avatars, with Finn and Kylo Ren representing some of the franchise's latest characters, while Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are the classics. This selection left out a central female character, and arguably the new movie's main hero: Rey.

Robo kitty is Hasbro’s first robot companion for seniors

Hasbro has a new line of life-like robotic companion pets designed for seniors, and though it seems depressing at first, the robo pets could help fill a void in cases where living pets aren't appropriate. The pets are designed to provide a sense of companionship, but come without some of the other aspects of pet ownership: food and care costs, messy litter boxes, and other things.

There’s a cheaper BB-8 “drone” too, from Hasbro

Just in case you didn't want to get the real-deal BB-8 by Sphero this Force Friday, there is another. This is supposing you're not wanting to pay one hundred and fifty dollars for the greatest Star Wars toy ever made, that is to say. If that's a bit out of your price range, there's also the Hasbro Target exclusive remote control BB-8, one that's not nearly so fantastic, one that works with AA-batteries instead of rechargeable built-in batteries.

Jurassic World toys surface ahead of movie

Jurassic World toys surface ahead of movie

After years of hopes, rumors, leaks, and eventual confirmation and subsequent teases, Jurassic World is (finally) upon us, destined to hit theaters early this summer. As with other movies, the film will be ushered in with a litany of toys, the likes of which have surfaced in several screenshots of dino action figures. Standing biggest among the bunch is a massive 18-inch T-Rex, and of lesser note are some smaller dinosaur toys -- one of which appears to be a hybrid.

Report: Hasbro might acquire DreamWorks Animation

Hasbro is looking to acquire DreamWorks Animation, according to sources that spoke with the New York Times. Talk between the companies is said to be "advanced", but the sources say that nothing is concrete yet and it might still come to nothing. If the acquisition does pan out, however, it would see Hasbro's product lines open to a new level of feature film possibilities, and DreamWorks Animation would have numerous options for future projects. This follows news in September claiming Softbank was looking to acquire the company.

The first line to have its license opened to fans through this program is My Little Pony.
