HTC Bootloader Situation Update: Devices Continue Shipping Locked, Unlock Comes from Web

Wednesday of this week, HTC sent out a new update on the situation they've had brewing for some weeks, that being one where fans of the devices have demanded handsets have unlocked boot loaders so that they might root and hack them for custom modifications. HTC responded some time ago to the call to action by indeed responding with a declaration that they would, indeed, be unlocking their devices come this Summer and Autumn. In their most recent update, HTC notes that there have been many questions as to why their most recent devices still come locked, responding with updates on how and when each device would be unlocked and what users would have to do to make it happen. McAfee talks about attack dubbed Operation Shady RAT

Most of us follow all the hacking stories that have been surfacing over the last year or so and think that the rate of hacking is gone up dramatically. According to McAfee, it's not so much that attacks are increasing, it's just that the attacks are now being announced instead of hidden away. McAfee is also publishing a new report that it says is one of the most comprehensive analysis ever revealed of victim profiles from a five-year long targeted operation by a specific actor dubbed Operation Shady RAT. LulzSec hacker teen bailed: Details of 750,000 found on PC

The teenage LulzSec hacker arrested by British police last week has been released on bail this morning, despite investigations discovering the personal details of 750,000 individuals on computers seized from his home. Jake Davis, who is believed to be LulzSec spokesperson Topiary, was granted bail after the judge took into account his age, clean record and the "considerable shock" of his arrest and the media's reaction to it, The FT reports. Hackers Can Unlock Cars Via Text Messages

So we've all seen those commercials lately where the integration of new technology with automobiles lets a person unlock and start his or her spiffy new BMW remotely with a cellphone app. It's convenient indeed and may also make it more convenient for hackers to hijack your car. UK police have reportedly arrested Lulzsec spokesperson Topiary, in a snatch that saw the unnamed 19 year old detained at a residential address in the Shetland Islands. Pinocchio needed a fairly godmother to become a real boy, but all Wall-E needed to become a real robot was a geek with some parts and a bit of time. Apple has quietly retired Front Row, its media center interface for Macs, which has disappeared as of OS X Lion's release earlier this week. Hacking groups Anonymous and LulzSec have released a taunting message to the FBI, challenging the law enforcement agency in the aftermath of recent arrests of supposed members of the groups. The iPhone Dev Team has already jailbroken Apple's new iOS 4.3.4 release, pushed out to the iPhone, iPad and other devices on Friday last week. The updated iOS version patched a PDF vulnerability which hackers had used to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3; however, redsn0w 0.9.8b3 has been released to handle jailbreaks on 4.3.4, albeit tethered rather than untethered.
