IK Multimedia, a company that specializes in guitar and music software, has just launched a new piece of software for both OS X and Windows computers that emulates the style and sound of 17 different Orange amplifiers and cabinets. It’s called AmpliTube Orange, and it’s available now for the price of $99.

The software consists of 17 different models of Orange amps and cabinets that work with IK’s AmpliTube 3 software. Orange is a long-time tube amplifier company that was founded in the 1960s in London, and they’re known for “their warm and luscious tube tone and characteristic crunch.” IK is the only company offering Orange certified products currently.

IK’s AmpliTube Orange software features seven amp heads, nine cabinets, and one combo unit. Each of these options offer a different kind of sound and style that will cater towards any rocker. IK says that “no matter what the genre, users will find plenty of killer amp tones in this collection to go with their music.”

All 17 Orange options are a la carte, and they can be mixed and matched in order to find that perfect sound that you’re looking for from your guitar. IK offers a “Try Before You Buy” feature, which will let you download a fully-functioning version of the software and try it out for 72 hours before purchasing it. After that, it’ll be up to whether 17 amplifiers and cabinets is worth $100.

Apple has never actually sold all-out musical instruments directly before, but the company has partnered up with Fender to bring a full-size iOS-enabled Squier Stratocaster guitar to Apple’s online store. The guitar is fully playable and includes the traditional 1/4-inch jack so you can still plug into an amplifier to jam, but it also includes the capability to plug directly into an iOS device.

The $199 guitar has USB and iOS connectivity built-in, and it’s designed to allow recording directly into GarageBand on an iPhone and iPad, and even a Mac. The USB output on the guitar is a Mini-B connection and a USB-mini to 30-pin adapter is included with the package, meaning users with a newer iOS devices that use Lightning will need a Lightning to 30-pin adapter.

Also included with the guitar is a 3.5mm headphone jack and “a high-quality headphone amp so that you can monitor the processed guitar signal right from the guitar itself.” It’s clear Fender is aiming this product directly at Garageband iOS and Mac users, but you’ll have no problem using it as a traditional guitar with the 1/4-inch output.

Unfortunately, you can only buy the guitar online, since Apple isn’t selling them at retail stores just yet, so if you’re nervous about buying a guitar online and don’t necessarily trust shipping companies to handle a full-size guitar, then you may want to wait to see if Apple will sell them at physical locations.

Moog, the company that pioneered commercial manufacturing of analog synthesizers, has shown off a cool new piece of tech. They call it the LEV-96, and it’s a new “sensoriactuator” prototype that “activates and controls naturally occurring harmonics and resonant frequencies on any medium.” Images posted by Moog show the concept device being used on an acoustic guitar.

The LEV-96 places two pickups under each string, which totals 12 pickups. The company says that each “pickup channel is capable of controlling any combination of 8 harmonics within each string simultaneously.” So, in this case, there are a total of 96 individual control systems handling up to 96 harmonics.

The whole system is powered by a processor and is controlled through touch-based sliders by the guitar player. This allows adjustments of intensity, harmonics, and note duration. There’s also other settings that allow you to change the arpeggio, tremolo, and other random harmonics. During playing, the system constantly evaluates “each string’s harmonic content and vibrational behavior.”

Sadly, Moog has only released photos of the device, so we don’t know what this thing sounds like, nor do we get to see it in action. However, the company’s annual Moogfest is coming up, so we’ll possibly be able to finally the see thing work its magic. However, Moog says that it’s only a rough concept so far and that there will be a lot more to come in the future.

You’ve probably all picked up a guitar at least once and tried to play it, strumming away while trying to position your fingers and giving up rather quickly. A new Kickstarter project is hoping to create a guitar to help users learn how to play by leveraging the iPhone. The gTar features an iPhone dock at the base, and once the phone is plugged in, the app will will control the array of LEDs along the fretboard showing you where to place your fingers.

The guitar features three difficulty settings to help you play. Easy allows you to play just the strings, letting you get a better feel for the guitar while keeping an eye on the notes that need to be played. Medium moves things up a notch, requiring you to hit the notes and strum, but a feature called Smart Play keeps the rhythm going regardless of mistakes in order to encourage you to keep playing. Hard will display the correct notes, but Smart Play will be disabled, letting you play whatever you want.

The flexibility of the iPhone means you aren’t restricted to guitar strings either. Accompanying tracks using drums and keyboards can also be applied, and you’ll be able to tweak reverb, echo, and distortion levels. The guitar itself features a USB port, 1/4” line-out jack, and is powered by a 5,000mAh internal battery.

gTar has already surpassed its $100,000 goal, sitting at around $120,000 as of the time of writing. The first 200 backers were treated to a $350 early bird special, now sold out, while the next cheapest model is $399 for 500 users. Additional Kickstarter tiers add in goodies like t-shirts and stickers, although the $999 option allows you to send in your own design or color choices for a custom gTar. The project still has a long way to go, closing on June 25th, so there’s plenty of time to get in on the ground floor.

There’s a brand new miniature refrigerator in town, and it’s not made by any of the common cooler names you’d expect: it’s an amp. This fridge is able to cool masses of cans, bottles, or whatever else you may want to include in your musically-inclined drinking space, and appears by all outward appearances to be a hefty Marshall amplifier for your guitar. And the control knobs, of course, go to 11.

This beast is fully reminiscent of a classic Jim Marshall signature series amp, has all official and authentic Marshall logos, and will cool your containers to the degrees you need all night long. This fridge has 4.4 cubic feet of space for several cases of beer, soda pop, or whatever other odd kind of can and bottle-loving liquid you do so desire. It’s a high efficiency freezer so you don’t have to worry about your electricity bill shattering the roof as your real amp does.

The Marshall Fridge is Energy Star, RoHS, and UL compliant, and is ready to roll into your garage as soon as possible for $299.00 USD. Of course “as soon as possible” is up to Marshall, and at the moment you’ll be waiting until October 1st, 2012, to get your first shipment in. The $299 is what Marshall is calling an “introductory price” so expect these monsters to go up in price as the date for shipping does so approach.

Unfortunately this amplifier does not amplify your music, just the cool nature of your fridge contents – you’ll need to add this to your speaker stack to make it look best!

With Guitar Apprentice users can then learn to play the guitar or play along with apps such as GarageBand. What’s even better though, is with the custom Ion Audio application the strings will light up as indicators when you’ve struck the correct cord — or wrong one when your fingers aren’t long enough like mine. The learning stage each individual fret will light up and direct the user to the proper location that for chord, making the learning experience easy — and fun. If you’ve been eying a good way to finally learn how to impress your friends and family on the guitar this is for you.

Live at CES, the demonstration unit was fully running although the Ion iPad app needed some work and was still very much in beta stages. It did however still put on quite the show and I might of learned how to play a few D chords. Hitting the U.S at just $99 the build quality was better than expected. I was worried about the weight on the end with an iPad being built-in but weight distribution didn’t seem to be an issue.

This is like Guitar Hero but on a whole new level. Ion Audio told SlashGear it will hit the U.S. initially but they plan to launch in other regions and the UK soon. Again the Ion Guitar Apprentice will retail for $99 (£64 approx) and should be available in many of the same retailers as other Ion Audio devices like Best Buy, Walmart and more soon.

Two new games Ubisoft announced today at E3 bring their own unique spin to the genre of party/body games. Rocksmith changes the guitar-sim world by introducing a game where you actually play a real life guitar, not a controller. Just Dance 3 expands one of the most popular dance-sim games across all platforms, regardless if you want to Wii or Kinect.

We all remember when we first played Rock Band or Guitar Hero, and we all seem to know someone that somehow feels that their skill on a virtual guitar somehow translates into real-life skill on a real world guitar. Well, Rocksmith supposedly does just that. The game begins by plugging in a real honest to goodness guitar. As you advance in the game, the game is supposed to actually teach you how to play the guitar, or improve whatever skill you may have. Definitely a game changer. Any chance Ninja Gaiden will be doing this will a real katana?

Just Dance 3 also makes some new moves for the franchise, even if they aren’t necessarily industry shattering. The new edition features new multiplayer action, and will also allow you to transfer your favorite dance tracks from the previous version of the game. Some include this in the fitness category, but regardless of how it is classified, Just Dance 3 should be a lot of fun for a group of friends or for the whole family.

This new concept product is called the Hyper Touch Guitar and it looks like a mash up between a video game controller and a real guitar.

It has no strings on it and uses a multitouch screen that allows the player to change how many strings or frets the guitar would have. The number of customization options for the guitar is vast and the player can use one guitar for a bass, a 6-string, or a 12-string I guess.

That concept looks really cool too with a carbon fiber design on the body. The designer is Max Battaglia. I wonder if this will ever become a real product.

I used to take guitar lessons as a kid and my instructor would tune the guitar every time I went in using a tuning fork and his ear. Things are a lot simpler now with high tech tuners like the new Intellitouch CT1 Capo tuner from OnBoard Research. The turner clips to the guitar and will work with 6-string and 12-string guitars.

The tuner uses vibration-based tuning technology with a single action capo. The thing is automatic and shows the measures note on a large backlit LCD for easy tuning. The backlighting on the screen changes from red to green when the note is correctly tuned.

The tuner can be put on any fret on the guitar and can be put on the headstock when the capo function isn’t needed. The device is made from aluminum and uses a CR2032 battery. Users can also change the A-Reference from 430Hz to 450Hz if wanted and the tuner will shut off automatically after 3-minutes of inactivity. The CT1 sells for $54.95.

This is what’s called the Misa Digital Kitara multi-touch guitar and it’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen since air guitars turned into pieces of cardboard that people purchased at a store. This is no joke though, this is wild, crazy, and a completely real instrument. Not for kids! Three main components make up its mysterious whole: a full fretboard, a multi-touch touchscreen, and an onboard polyphonic synthesizer with pre-loaded effects and sounds.

Finally your guitar video game skills will come to some non-lame use: instead of strumming strings on this Kitara guitar, you use one of six buttons on the frets in combination with your hand brushing the screen below. You can set the screen to show six strings and pick each string as you would on a full-fledged normal guitar, or you can map sounds and effects in a wacky amount of ways along the x and y axes on the body (again, in the screen.)

This monster beast will ship in April of 2011, pre orders being taken now. You’ll be paying $849 for the standard version (hard plastics) or the limited edition aluminum version will run you around $2,899. I’ll be going for the Gene Simmons Axe Bass… if they ever make one, that is. I can’t wait for Jonathan Coulton to get his hands on one of these – WEEEEEEIIOWWW WONK.

Rockmaster is a complete stagepack that has all the user needs to rock out on stage or at home. The bundle includes a guitar, an internal 2-channel headphone amp, cable, integrated digital tuner, strap, picks, and a GT-5 amp with an MP3 input.

I have played my share of Guitar Hero and Rock Band and playing the guitar is a lot of fun. I would bet there are a lot of people out there who wish they could play a real guitar as well as they can play Rock Band. A music game called Power Gig for the PS3 and Xbox have been out for a while now, and the game is notable for the real six string guitar controllers it uses.

A couple of handmade, limited edition guitar controllers for the game have been unveiled and are available to pre-order for the PS3 and Xbox consoles. Both versions of the controller will set you back about $250. The controllers are fully functional six string guitars that work like wireless controllers for the game.

The guitar controllers are limited editions and are handmade with a single cutaway basswood body, humbucking pickup, and a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. The controller can register the users input all along the guitar neck.

I received a guitar for Christmas when I was from my parents and then they sent me to lessons to learn to play the thing. That was all fine and good until I realized you had to practice a lot and I lost interest, plus I kept breaking the strings and losing picks. The one thing that most guitars have in common is strings. A concept guitar at Yanko Design has no strings and isn’t intended for playing Rock Band.

The concept is a MIDI instrument for digital musicians that can replicate the sound of any guitar setup. The pickups and frets on the guitar are digital inputs and the neck is touch sensitive. One thing that you lose with a guitar lacking strings is the feel of the strings vibrating.

The designer says that the concept uses piezo-electric actuators to emulate vibrations corresponding to the played note. That means in a nutshell that the guitar offers faux sting vibrations so you feel like you are playing with strings.

Logitech have announced their latest Guitar Hero peripheral, a wireless controller for the Xbox 360. Like the company’s existing guitar controller for PS2 and PS3, the new Xbox 360 version has a wood neck, rosewood fingerboard and metal frets.

The wireless technology is promised to be plug-and-play with the Xbox 360, while its range is quoted at up to 30 feet. The strum-bar and fret buttons are “virtually silent”, using the same technology as on Logitech’s keyboard range, and there’s a touch-sensitive slider on the neck.

Logitech’s Wireless Guitar Controller for Xbox 360 will launch in August in both the US and Europe, with an MRSP of $199.99. It’s licensed for use with all the Guitar Hero titles, including the World Tour version.

There are quite a few Rock Band guitar controllers on the market, ranging from the cheap to the surprisingly expensive, but one thing they generally have in common is the plastic strum bar. It doesn’t have to be that way, though; one enterprising gamer has swapped out the plastic for a beam of infrared light which is recognized as a strum whenever you break it.

Video demo after the cut

The beam itself is around 5mm wide and will respond to traditional strums but also to tapping, letting you play much faster (though that’s really cheating). Since there’s only one beam, though, you can only have an upstrum; an interesting future mod could pair two more directional lights, such as lasers rather than IR, and work out up- or downstrum via the order in which they’re broken.

Still, it looks relatively straightforward to do, and gameplay is apparently faster and now allows you to “really ham it up” with extra-long guitar strokes. Ironically it makes Rock Band even more like playing air guitar.

If you’re excited for the upcoming release of The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle, then you’ll be pleased to hear that you’re going to have yet another guitar controller option on your hands. This time, it’s a Höfner bass guitar controller.

This replica guitar controller looks just like the bass Sir Paul McCartney used to play. However, this one is meant for right-handed folks, even though Sir Paul is a leftie. The controller adds to the already wide selection of controllers lined up for the game’s release including Gretsch Duo-Jet guitars and a Rickenbacker 325.

Regardless if you get the game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or the Wii, you will be able to use the Höfner guitar controller. We don’t know how much the accessory will cost just yet, though it’s likely to be in the same $100 range as the others. Expect the game and controllers to launch on September 9th, though you can pre-order it now.

No, you’re not seeing things. Someone has really wired up a Kaossilator to a Guitar Hero guitar remote.

How can it be, you may be wondering? Well, James Haskin got inspired when seeing Wayne Coyne’s double-necked Guitar Hero creation and decided to change up his Kaossilator just a tad.

Apparently, the phase equalizer was causing him a bid of trouble, primarily due to the cramped layout of the device. The buttons were just too hard to navigate in such a small space. So, he did what any logical person would do–he connected it to his Guitar Hero controller. Watch the video below to be impressed.

Techno-guitarmaker Ovation has just announced another breakthrough in the music world. The Ovation iDea is the first ever acoustic guitar to be equipped with a built-in MP3 recorder for laying down tracks at the touch of a button. Not only can the iDea record tracks, but it can also replay the song so you can play along.

If you would like you can even slow down the track without changing the key so learning a song can be made easier. If that wasn’t enough there is also a built-in condenser microphone that allows you to record vocals alongside your guitar track. Added features allow you to loop or repeat a track for continuous practicing. Of course the iDea has a USB port that allows you to transfer all of your recorded music to a PC or Mac.

The sound quality of this guitar has yet to be determined, it is made of a composite synthetic back instead of the traditional wooden acoustic body. If your old fashion like me, you prefer the traditional style acoustic guitar over the curved body of the Ovation iDea. In any case this guitar seems worth the time to at least check out. The iDea would come in handy for those on the go or who do not have much in terms of recording equipment. Six hundred dollars is not bad for an acoustic guitar, let alone one that records your music.

The fret board buttons use the same rubber dome technology as Logitech’s keyboard range, offering both reliability and minimal noise. There’s also a touch-sensitive neck slider, which can be used in-game as well as in Guitar Hero World Tour’s new Music Studio to create an even wider away of sounds.

Two AA batteries are good for “hundreds of hours” of use, and the controller is delivered in a gig bag with room for game discs and the USB wireless receiver. The Logitech Premiere Edition Wireless Guitar Controller will be available in the US in December, priced at $249.99.

Our own Chris Scott Barr would likely never forgive me for saying it, but one of the reasons I’ve never really gotten into either Guitar Hero or Rock Band is because it all looks a bit naff. Plastic instruments end up looking like kids toys, unless you’re willing to invest some serious hack-time in them. So Peak Products‘ Starpex could actually bring new gamers like myself onboard; styled after a real guitar, it has an instrument-quality, high-gloss lacquered finish with a hardwood body, neck, and headstock handcrafted by a leading guitar manufacturer.

Compatible with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band, there’s a choice of connectivity – either wired or 2.4GHz wireless – and a modular design that allows for customization of different parts of the design. Controls include a “Speed Star” power/overdrive button, a built-in tilt sensor and optimized whammy bar. The ten fret buttons and strum bar are also enhanced, meaning both solo and traditional play is possible depending on which title you’ve chosen.

At the moment you’ll need either a PS2 or PS3 to use the Starpex, and Peak are being coy about exactly when you’ll be able to buy one. Expect it roughly in August 2008, priced at a vaguely reasonable (for a guitar, if not a controller) $179.95.

Guitar Hero has spawned a large number of mods, hacks and general tweakery, with gamers often looking to use proper instruments in place of the normal controllers. However this is the first time I’ve seen a Guitar Hero controller converted in the opposite direction; it now works as a MIDI guitar, compatible with any synth with the necessary port. Best of all, there’s actually no damage to the controller’s original functionality, so you can switch between gaming and music making to your heart’s content.

As mods go, this is a thorough one. The guy behind it, Dave, started out by writing a user manual for the whole thing, and he has made that – together with instructions and a guide to the MIDI functionality – available for anyone to recreate the project. All the controls work, including the whammy bar, and there’s control over the scale being played, the tonal modes, timbre and resonance, and even single-touch chords in a preset key.

What’d be a neat addition would be wireless MIDI – then, as Chris Scott Barr might say, you could truly rock out. In the end it cost around $105 to create, including buying the guitar controller itself.

You know that robotic guitar that Gibson rolled out last year that could auto tune itself to a number of different scales and were programmable to any custom tuning you required? It was like the most badass guitar ever, well they are making a new version that will be more widely available, since getting your hands on one of the originals was nigh impossible.

The downside is that they may not need to make many more of them as the first thing most buyers are going to have to do is to have it re-finished in some other color than the bright, shiny, metallic purple that it comes in. The new version will be the SG version of the robotic guitar.

I got to see the original in action at CES this year and it really is as awesome as it sounds. You set it to tune, strum it a few times and let it adjust the strings, then once it’s all adjusted you push the knob back in and you are ready to rock. Next they need to work on an acoustic/electric hybrid version of this.

Being a primarily business oriented device the BlackBerry has been passed up on a lot of really cool mobile games, but this is one that you can mark off the list.

Personally I am just wondering if you’ll have access to all 5 frets or if they are sticking with the three frets that previous mobile versions have offered up. When you first download the game you’ll get 15 tracks including “Cherub Rock”, “Miss Murder”, “Monsters”, “Suck My Kiss”, and “Trippin On A Hole”.

Then each month they will offer up 3 more tracks that you can download and play. After a year there will be over 50 tracks available for download and up to 150 unique levels spread across 3 difficulties to play through. The game should be available on all 4 major mobile carriers by sometime this month.

I don’t think I’d have much of a use for this as a guitar amp, unless I took up playing Hawaiian tune (they’re so calming aren’t they?). However as a set of computer speakers or something more along those lines I’d love to have a pair of these.

Well, now that I am thoroughly thirst for some coconut milk, and hungry for some coconut, I think I might try my hand at stuffing something useful into one of these things. Sadly it doesn’t appear to be a mass produced item, in fact its origins are from MAKE, so the guy only made one, but it’s nice.

I’ve been rocking out on a plastic guitar for a while now; too long some would say. I finally decided a couple months ago that I would finally get myself a real guitar and learn to play some of the songs I’ve been playing for so long. While I’ve been spending plenty of time lately learning chords and building up calluses on my fingers, I’ve been thinking about how much fun it was when I first learned to play on Guitar Hero, and how boring it is learning the real guitar. I know my hard work will pay off eventually, but I have something of a short attention span. Guitar Rising is a new game (if you can call it that) that is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Hit the jump for an awesome video.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so excited about learning something. Playing a few chords here and there gets old quick, however, this looks like it plays almost the same as Guitar Hero, only scrolling to the side. You can use any electric guitar (which is awesome), and slow down/speed up the tempo. There are varying levels of difficulty and 30 rock songs to play. I didn’t see any well-known song on the video, but either way it’ll still be fun to learn with.

GuitarRising
by jakeparks

There isn’t a lot of info available about Guitar Rising other than what’s in the video. We do know that it should be released on both PC and Mac in late 2008.

Due to the ease with which LEGOs shift and bend I can’t really see this guitar working all that well, or at least staying in tune, but maybe they’ve got something to solve that problem already figured out. It looks cool as hell, that’s for sure.

I am a little curious why he settled on a Les Paul design though. Sadly, it seems to be a one-off design, so there won’t likely be any mass production of these units, but I am sure it probably wasn’t cheap to make.

I got a copy of Rock Band with all the instruments for Christmas, and other than one weekend where I played for nearly 30 hours straight, I haven’t played much (its hard to get my band mates back together). But one issue we had was the 4th guitar, there were only 3 of us, but if a 4th came along to play, we would have had some issues, and having a duel was out of the question.

Well, it looks like come February 12th you’ll finally be able to by the drums and the guitar each separately for $80 and $60 respectively. But what about the microphone, when will we see it sold separately?

I don’t know why one would need to buy one separately, but its still a good question. Of course you’ll still be able to buy the whole kit with the game, and you can already buy just the game. Now all they need to work on is some way to offer different guitars, oh, and putting that custom made drum and guitar bag in stores would be nice too considering how much of a pain it is to safely transfer both of them without bags.

So the word on the streets is that there is a new Rock Band addition headed our way come 6/23/08. Sadly its not a new accordion or harmonica part for some of these songs, instead it appears to be some sort of official Rock Band special effects kit with a fog machine and generic stage lighting that is apparently synchronized with the music.

There was even a picture of the suspected kit up on the GameStop website for a short moment, but that’s gone, however “the memory remains”. The listing is apparently still up on the site for $99.99.

Hopefully before then they can come out with some more guitar choices, or a special amp stack that will connect to your 360 and provide awesome rock show sound. There are just so many more things they could do around the game than add some cheesy stage effects, especially when they’ll only be seen in locked basements and garages around the world.

Allow me to list just the technology stuffed in this thing that allows it to tune itself, there are locking servo powered tuners in the tuning keys, there is a CPU in the neck, which is all controlled by they Tune-Control Bridge, a Tune Core Controller, Data-Transmitting Tailpiece and much more. To tune it, automatically, obviously, because why would you buy this to tune it yourself, you select A440 tuning or there are 5 other presets.

Then you hit the control knob and strum the guitar once and the robotic ears allow these things to automatically tune everything. It does it one string at a time, and as it works, there are lights on the volume knob that light up.

The best part, is that all of this tech doesn’t add hardly any weight to the guitar, so, you can quickly tune your guitar and get straight to the music without adding a ton of weight. If you want one, you can pick one up now for $2500.

Alright, that was all mostly from the press release, but I just saw this thing, not only does this thing look amazing (with a touch of geek on the back with a window to view most of the tech stuff), they have different colors. I mentioned the available presets, yeah, you can also program your own tuning styles. The best part, all of this actually works, the guy got up on stage, strummed the guitar, it was horribly out of tune, he hit the knob, strummed the strings a couple time, hit the button again so it would start outputting audio again, and then he started playing, it literally took me more time to type that than it did for the guitar to tune itself.

I have been looking for months for a guitar strap to go with my collection of Guitar Hero and Rock Band guitars. Unfortunately I always look for something completely off the wall and with a bit of geeky influence, which means it’s doubtful I’ll find one at the local music store. However, my search is finally over, this 8-Bit Guitar Strap is just the thing.

The guitar straps that come with the games are just way too boring. You have to have something that lets people know you’re a serious gamer, by whipping out your own personalized guitar.

The guitar straps come in two styles black sprites and blue sprites, blue of course being the best. The guitar strap will sadly set you back $32.95, which is about double what I originally wanted to pay.

You can now go to http://support.ea.com/rockband for any problems you are experiencing with any of the Rock Band hardware. Harmonix says they have fixed the issue in subsequent manufacturing runs of the guitar so you shouldn’t have to worry about it if you decided to wait to purchase.

They also said that they are looking into the issue with the GHIII Les Paul guitars and that they don’t have any answers for those looking for stand-alone guitars or drums for the game, but they are looking into all three. They also noted that they do read the forums on their sites and that they are constantly trying to give people the best possible answer/solution for any problems they may be having.

So the guitar craze due to Guitar Hero and Rock Band are probably causing large numbers of guitars to go quickly out the doors at music stores around the nation, but large numbers don’t always equal large guitars. Just look at this one from Hammacher Schlemmer.

It’s a mere 26.5 inches long but still has 20 frets. Personally, I’d never want to see someone up on stage jamming out on a guitar like this, but it is small, and simple, so for a practice guitar it’d be nice, you could just stuff it in your locker, or your luggage, no problem.

The downside is that they want $800 for it. You’d think that smaller guitar equaled fewer materials used, and thus a cheaper guitar, but apparently that’s not the case, and I can’t see the name of the company that made it anywhere, so its clearly not made by a manufacturer known for making quality products, so even if I had a choice, I’d have to pick something else.

So, there are tons of knockoff guitar controllers, there is one guitar for Guitar Hero 1, 2, and 3, and another for Rock Band, and depending on what system you have, there were some random special edition official guitars along the way. That’s pretty much it though.

I still haven’t heard whether Rock Band’s guitar controller works with the various versions of Guitar Hero and visa versa, I know it was rumored that they should though. But, you can now stop searching for the new versions of Guitar Hero wireless controllers until next year.

I am really excited about Rock Band, I have yet to be able to make it out to buy my own copy, its been busy around here, but I am patiently waiting till I get a spare moment. But for those of you who have already managed to purchase a copy, I am sure you’ve come up with a slight transportation problem when it comes to the drums, there are a lot of parts.

Well, the makers of Rock Band have your back once again, they have, for sale, a customized bag specially made to fit all the drum kit parts inside in an organized manner. Now all you need to do is get some decent sticks, a drum pad, and then work on your technique.

They also have an official Rock Band guitar bag. Really you’d be surprised to see everything they have for sale on the Rock Band website, there is almost enough real gear to start a real band.

That’s where Air-Musician comes in. It takes less skill than Air Guitar Pro but also comes with less songs. You just put on the wrist unit and select one of five classic songs and you’re ready to jam. As you strum you’ll play the chords, easy stuff, right?

This device is sure to enhance all your air guitar sessions. At a price of just $20 you too could become an Air-Musician.

The control scheme has been boiled down to one knob, that displays your current tuning as well as remaining battery life. Changing the tuning is as simple as setting the knob and strumming the strings – the servos then take over.

The guitar will enter into full blown production in late 2008. But if you really want to get your hands on one, special dealers will soon begin carrying limited production models.

Here’s my question: Can I use it to play Guitar Hero? … Didn’t think so.
