Hot on the heels of NVIDIA’s GeForce announcement comes word from AMD regarding their own HD-capable mobile GPUs. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4860 and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 are the world’s first graphics processors to use 40nm process technology, and are capable of beyond-1080p mobile gaming.

We’re already caught sight of it – metaphorically speaking – in Clevo’s D900F 17-inch gaming laptop, but NVIDIA have officially announced the new GeForce GTX 280M, one of four fresh mobile GPUs. The GTX 280M apparently offers up to 50-percent more performance than its last-gen “enthusiast laptop GPUs”, with support for CUDA and PhysX gaming effects.

Samsung’s 50nm-class GDDR5 processing technology, designed to support 7Ghz GPU memory chips and 448GB/s peak bandwidth, has begun mass production today. The new fabrication process is not only outclassing in clock-speed but only cutting down power consumption.

Intel are planning on producing 320GB solid-state drives within a year, based on the success of the company’s current SSD range. The new drive was revealed in a note sent to Intel’s customers, and is one of eight SSDs to be planned for Q4 2009. The dramatic capacity increase will be enabled via a new, smaller production technology that allows more NAND flash to be packed into the same size enclosures.

NVIDIA has today unveiled the industry’s first low-profile professional graphic card, shrinking their Quadro series GPU fitting for a small form factor computer, with the introduction of a quad-display capable Quadro NVS 420.

Pro with industrial-grade graphic intensive designer apps take note, PNY Technologies has released two new highly scalable and performance graphics cards based on Nvidia 2nd-gen FX series unified architecture, offering 4GB and 1.5GB of DDR3 memory with the announcement of Quadro FX 5800 and Quadro FX 4800.

S3, the graphics label for VIA, announced their Chrome 500 series graphics chips yesterday, offering up a competitor to the Radeon HD 4350 line as well as other budget cards that provide features at a much lower price.

NVIDIA announced two new entry-level graphics processing products that can be used with workstations. The Quadro FX 470 is a mainboard and the Quadro FX 370 is a PCIe card that can be used with smaller desktop PCs.
