Motorola has unveiled its own interpretation of the smartwatch PMP, the MOTOACTV, a 1.6-inch touchscreen Android gadget that packs GPS and up to 4,000 of your songs. Intended to track your fitness in a similar way to Nike+, the MOTOACTV is sweat resistant and includes both an FM radio and an integrated audio coach that tells you how fast you’re going and how far you’ve run.

Garmin has unveiled a new watch that is dubbed the ultimate multisport training experience. The watch is the Garmin Forerunner 910XT. The watch is a GPS enabled and can detail swim metrics and tracks distance as well. Other things it tracks include speed/pace, elevation, and heart rate for runners and cyclers. TomTom adds 400,000km of new roads to map database

TomTom has announced that it has added a huge amount of new roads to its coverage around the world. TomTom says that it has now added 400,000km of new streets to its map database. The addition of the new roads brings the total to 35.2 million kilometers of roads covering 104 different countries. The database now offers navigation for 3.4 billion people worldwide. Nokia Drive for Mango adds voice control but AT&T ignoring Searay say tipsters

Nokia is reportedly readying a voice-control update for its mapping software, with the new PND app set to debut on the company's first Windows Phone handset. According to WinRumors' tipster, a T-Mobile Germany product display - temporarily erected at the carrier's headquarters - confirms the new 3D mapping system. However, there's also talk that AT&T may have decided to bypass one of the first Nokia Windows Phones, the Searay, and instead hold out for the Nokia Sabre. Intel grabs Telmap for cross-platform AppUp location services

Intel has acquired navigation and location-based software specialist Telmap, and will use the company's technology for cross-platform local services in its AppUp system. Eventually, Intel is planning to offer developers coding for AppUp a set of standardized location-based services (LBS) APIs, with which they'll be able to integrate potentially complex mapping, local search and other content into their apps with the addition of "just a few lines of code." OnStar backtracks on GPS tracking

OnStar has bowed to public and governmental pressure, and reversed its controversial decision to track ex-subscribers using its in-car GPS navigation and support system. Having announced - via a change in its terms & conditions - that from December it would be tracking the location of those with OnStar systems installed, even if the individuals were non-subscribers, OnStar has now backtracked and said it would now make any data collection opt-in rather than opt-out. OnStar to track all drivers by default [Updated]

OnStar has updated its privacy policy so as to permit position and speed tracking of cars with the navigation system installed, even if drivers do not have an active subscription. The change is already being criticized by privacy activists, who also highlight the clauses allowing OnStar to sell GPS tracking data to its choice of partners, albeit in anonymized form. That, OnStar spokesperson Adam Denison, is yet to happen, though the General Motors subsidiary does reserve the right to begin distributing location data in the future.
