Samsung tips massive Smart TV attack in 2012 but Google TV still MIA

2011 could well be the year of smart TV, with Samsung targeting 30- to 40-percent penetration of sets with streaming media, internet access and integration with mobile devices worldwide. According to Taipei Times, Samsung Taiwan president Moon Sung-hyun made the prediction during a Taiwan launch of a new range of LCD sets, over 90-percent of which were smart TV enabled; however, it's unclear if Samsung intends to push ahead with its own, home-grown smart TV platform, or look to a branded rival like Google TV

Logitech manager says Android Market coming to Google TV in “very short term”

I bet that there were lots of you out there that were excited about the Google TV platform when it announced only to have that damped when the major online content providers like networks and Hulu blocked the Google TV devices from streaming their content. After that happened my enthusiasm for the Revue and other Google TV gear waned. I keep hoping that the block will end eventually and we can access all the content again. In the interim, giving me access to lots of apps might help make the Revue more interesting.

Google TV launched with lots of high hopes from Google, Logitech, and Sony the original partners for the service. All was good for a short while until all the major networks and Hulu promptly banned Google TV from their websites making the future of Google TV questionable in my mind. Sony is still committed to Google TV and now Bloomberg Businessweek reports that Samsung is mulling entry into the Google TV clan.

Google TV Android Market access incoming as touchscreen apps now filtered?

Google appears to be paving the way for the Android Market's debut on Google TV, updating the app store submissions system to advise developers that touchscreen use in their software will now be treated as a "filtering" feature. Developer Al Sutton spotted that android.hardware.touchscreen access in an APK is now flagged up, a differentiator which will likely be used to prevent touch-dependent apps from being offered to Google TV users.
