, Feb 9th 2012 Discuss [3]

Google’s vision for a network of accessories connected to one another and running on Android as their operating system is what they call Android@Home. This system was first presented at Google I/O 2011 at their Day One Keynote and stood to extend the Android OS to include new services and apps to discover, connect, and communicate with appliances and devices in the home. The following is a basic guide of what this project, Android@Home or the Android at Home Framework, entails as of today.

, Nov 28th 2011 Discuss [0]

This year we saw the biggest Google I/O yet, complete with free tablets, free Chromebooks, and a few modems to round out the bunch - and next year promises to trump the entire past with today's announcement of an extension to three days. The event is usually just a tiny little thing with no more than a few large keynotes and some presenters, no big deal, (I'm sure some of you will have a heart attack and disagree), but next year promises to be a big bang to say the least. June 27th until the 29th is the time, and we'll be there to show off all Google ends up offering up. Read The Full Story

May 24th Samsung Mobile Event Postponed

Back at the beginning of May, we had gotten an invitation to a Samsung Mobile event in New York on May 24th. After the Infuse 4G was announced on May 5th, we had hoped to see either the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Galaxy S II being announced at this event. But today, we received a terse message letting us know that the event has been postponed to "a later date". Read The Full Story

SG Comics Presents: Apple Eats Android Ice Cream Sandwich

, May 16th 2011 Discuss [7]

Last week’s Google I/O kicked off the first keynote with an image on the big screen of an adorable Android robot ready to swallow an apple, bringing laughter to the crowd of 5000 attendees. This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen shots taken at the bitten apple logo, which being an inanimate and already injured fruit has very little means to defend itself. Apple probably won’t be fighting back with its own cartoon, but they could bring some major announcements at next month’s WWDC to take a bite out of Google’s recent developments.

The keynotes for both days of the event were live casted, but just in case you weren’t following along, we’ve highlighted them again. SlashGear Science Week in Review – Robot Edition! May 14th 2011

This week’s SlashGear Science Week in Review is all robot. We always try to include at least one robot story in each edition, but this week, there were so many robot stories to choose from, we decided to feature all of them. These robots range from robotic arms engaging in an epic lightsaber duel, a cute and cuddly robot toy, a jumping robot (kind of) named after a famous frog, and one robot that seems to be channeling Rosie from the Jetsons. Then, those crazy German engineers who brought us the Rollin’ Justin robot are back and this time, they’re coming out swinging, as in gleefully whacking a robot with a baseball bat. Also, a couple of robot concepts that we encountered at Google I/O this week. And last, a rolling trash can that isn’t a robot, but plays one on TV. Of course, there are lots of videos included as well. Read on for all the robot goodness.

Google I/O 2011 video now online: Keynotes & Sessions

, May 14th 2011 Discuss [3]

Google only had a fraction of the capacity at I/O 2011 this past week for developers who wanted to attend, but the company has followed up on its promise to make all the keynotes and sessions available to watch online. Both the first and second day keynotes, and over 30 sessions, are now streaming. Read The Full Story

What’s Google TV’s Key Selling Point?

At the I/O Conference this week, Google said that it will be bringing Android 3.1 to Google TV later this year. In addition, the company said that developers will finally have the SDK they need to start delivering Google TV-based applications.

For those who currently own Google TV-based devices, like the Logitech Revue, that’s good news. Right now, those folks are using a platform that, by and large, has done little to justify its price. Worst of all, for months, it seemed that Google had turned its back on the platform, allowing it to languish on store shelves.

HTC offered Sense-free Honeycomb Flyer for Google I/O giveaway?

Samsung's 5,000 strong Galaxy Tab 10.1 Limited Edition giveaway at Google I/O this week won them a few fans, but behind the scenes it seems there was plenty of controversy over who would get to give out freebies to the attending developers. Inside word among developers, Android coder Al Sutton tells us, is that HTC wanted to give every attendee an HTC Flyer as well as an unspecified smartphone from its range; however, Google decided to go with Samsung instead. SlashGear 101: Google Chromebook

Google I/O 2011 day two was all about the Chromebook, the search giant’s play for the notebook market. With Acer and Samsung on hand with the first of the hardware, the Chromebook is the market culmination of the Google Chrome OS project publicly announced back in 2009. So, will subscription-based notebooks float us all away from Windows and OS X and into the cloud? Read on for the full SlashGear 101 rundown.
