Google Cloud Print gets HP ePrint compatibility demo [Video]

Google have been fleshing out their upcoming Cloud Print service, which is now apparently being tested internally.  Similar to what we saw with HP's ePrint system yesterday, Google Cloud Print allows users to send print jobs from their smartphone to any compatible networked printer; in fact, Google took to the stage with HP to demo the interaction of the two systems, and confirm that any of HP ePrint printers announced will also be fully compatible with Google Cloud Print. Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, can always be counted on to make a conference, no matter the setting, an interesting one. This time around, while sitting on All Thing D's stage at the D8 conference, Ballmer managed to cover just about everything he could that relates to Microsoft. Google Chrome OS confirmed for late-fall 2010

Google has announced that it expects the first Chrome OS netbooks to launch in late fall, with Sundar Pichai - head of the Chrome project - using Computex 2010 to narrow down the previous "second half of 2010" window.  As the search giant has hinted at previously, they plan on being careful in how Chrome OS is delivered; "We will be selective on how we come to market because we want to deliver a great user experience," Pinchai said, "we're thinking on both the hardware and software levels." Microsoft counter Google security claims: “there is irony here”

Microsoft have snapped back at rumors that Google is moving to oust Windows based PCs from their employees' desks, pointing to recent security research that suggests the company is in fact doing more to ensure system safety than rivals like OS X.  In a post on the Windows Team Blog, Windows communication manager Brandon LeBlanc suggests that "there is some irony here that is hard to overlook" and points to Yale University's apparent delay in switching to Google Apps services over their own security concerns. Google junk Windows after security breach

The biggest fall-out from Google's Chinese hack incident back in January could be on Microsoft's bottom line, as the search giant moves to vanquish Windows PCs from employee desks.  According to the FT's sources, Google is giving staff a choice between OS X and Linux, with one unnamed employee saying that "we’re not doing any more Windows. It is a security effort."  Google have declined to comment, but according to other employees "getting a new Windows machine now requires CIO approval." Read The Full Story

Google bought Agnilux for tablet frugality expertise?

It's a morning of acquisition talk today, with Google confirming that they've bought Agnilux, a company started by ex-PA Semiconductor employees.  The move has caused much speculation as to what exactly it is Agnilux have been working on; initially there was talk of low-power server chips, obviously of interest to Google since the company has massive server farms driving its various search and cloud-based services.  More recently, however, someone familiar with the deal told the NYTimes that in fact Agnilux is made up of "systems guys focusing on hardware-software integration ... not chip design" that could help Google make more efficient tablets. Google Chrome OS netbooks $300-$400 says Schmidt

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has revealed new details regarding the upcoming Chrome OS based netbooks, including some of the thought processes behind the development of the web-centric platform and what price tags he expects to see hardware land with.  According to Schmidt, "the price points you should think about are the current netbook pricings which are 300 dollar, 400 dollar price points," figures he points out that are led by manufacturers and are predominantly derived from the cost of processors, glass and other components. ASUS confirms Google and Windows Eee Pad tablets for 2010

ASUS have slowly been trickling out details on their upcoming tablet strategy over the past few months, with quietly-debuted hardware at trade shows and talk of at least two models sometime in 2010, and now chairman Jonney Shih has thrown some OS talk into the mixture.  Speaking to Forbes, Shih confirmed that ASUS will be keeping a foot in both Microsoft's and Google's camps, with at least one machine running either Google Chrome OS or Android and another getting Windows, as they prepare to take on Apple's iPad. Chrome browser gets baked-in Flash support

Whether you're on the "bring on the Flash" side of the fence, or patiently counting down the days until its demise at the hands of HTML5, you can't escape the fact that much of the online content we see is powered by Adobe's technology.  Google have therefore announced a new build of the Google Chrome browser that has Flash baked in; it's the first step in their collaborative work with Adobe to tighten up the Flash experience with a new API rather than the flaky browser plug-in method currently used. Google Chrome OS tablet rumors reignite

In these tablet-charged times, it doesn't take much to start a touchscreen rumor running.  Google's Senior Product Manager of Search, Anders Sandholm, found that out yesterday, when questioned about Google Chrome OS and the possibility of a touchscreen device running the web-centric platform.  Sandholm reportedly fumbled about for a tactically answer, settling on "I can't... I mean... right now we are targeting netbooks, that's what we're focused on, but I expect it to work well... we expect it to target everything up to desktop computers." Read The Full Story
