If you’re in the middle of outfitting your geeky man cave or evil lair as the case may be, ThinkGeek has what might be the perfect wall decoration for you. That is assuming you don’t mind coughing up $500 on a geeky piece of wall art. Granted, this thing is a 100% accurate replica of the evil computer HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Let’s be honest, a typical fan of the film isn’t going to drop $499.99 on this replica, you need to be an uber fan. For your $499.99, you get a 100% accurate, life-size replica of HAL 9000. This thing was created from the actual studio blueprints used to create the devices for the film. The recreation is 100% accurate down to using the original studio files for the HAL 9000 label.

ThinkGeek says that the actual HAL 9000 used in the film used a lens that is rare and expensive called a Nikkor fish-eye lens. The replica uses a custom ground remake that even has a sticker with the writing from the NIKKOR lens used in the film so the product is accurate down to the close-up shots. Other than the incredible accuracy, the replica obviously has a red LED eye and it talks.

The replica will cycle through 15 phrases from the films and you can trigger the speech by talking to it. To activate the device you rotate the lens ring and it will shut off within 2 minutes of no activity to save battery power. One of the phrases the replica will say is, “I’m sorry, Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that. I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.” Check out the video of the device in action to see more.

After a 10-year run on television, the Smallville series, which tells the coming-of-age story of a young Superman, will continue on with an 11th season. But this time you’ll have to turn away from your TV and onto your iPad, Android tablet, or other preferred method of reading digital comics. The new e-comic series will be titled “Smallville Season 11,” and it is being penned by a former writer from the series’ days on the CW.

The story will pick up right where the TV series finale left off, which presented a memorable moment as Clark Kent flew off into the sky. It acted as both a perfectly appropriate end to a long-running television series and a cliffhanger at the same time. Writer Brian Q. Miller looked at the latter as his launching pad for the continuation on a new medium. Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips … enter Season 11,” he said in a statement.

The first “episode” of the new entry in the Smallville universe will be released on April 13 to digital platforms. But it won’t stay electronic forever. There will be a print version launching to correlate with the digital comics, but they’ll be released after their downloadable counterparts. There plans to be new installments released every week.

If we told you that a man who was able to create a replica of the Star Trek Voyager starship in his apartment ended up being served divorce papers by his wife, you probably wouldn’t be that surprised. But if we told you that same amazing apartment was going to be destroyed by said wife, you’d probably at least be disappointed. That is the story of a poor unfortunate nerd named Tony Alleyne.

Before we go on with the details, just take a moment to look at that picture. Someone lived here. How amazing is that? So here’s the thing – Alleyne’s wife decided to divorce him in 1994. It wasn’t until then that he decided to convert his 500-square-foot living space into geek heaven, but based on this we can imagine the two probably weren’t speaking the same language all along anyway.

So with all the extra spare time not having a wife allows, he was able to spend $150,000 in hand-crafting futuristic furniture, installing a voice-activated lighting system, and converting the bedroom into a transporter. Here’s the thing, though. He wasn’t paying anything for the apartment. His soon-to-be-ex-wife was. And now that the divorce is final, the space belongs to her. She has reportedly vowed to dismantle the Intrepid-class starship entirely. But Mr. Alleyne’s dedication to geekdom will be remembered forever.

This is so awesome. I had a bunch of slot car sets when I was a kid; I was never very good at racing them though. Mostly I concentrated on making the cars leave the track and hit the people racing against me in the gonads. That trick takes more skill than you might imagine. I would have so owned one of these as a kid. Honestly, I might order both of them now.

What we have here is a pair of Star Wars themed slot car sets. They don’t use small racecars at all. One of the sets is called Death Star Attack and has Vader’s Tie Fighter and Luke’s X-Wing as the vehicles. This set ever glows in the dark and races though what appears to be part of the box. The other set is the one I like best.

It is the Battle of Endor and has a couple white skeleton looking troopers racing around on the speeders. I guess the company didn’t want to license the real likeness for the vehicles. Exactly when these sets will launch is unknown. The Death Star set will cost around $109 and the Endor set will be around $156.

If you are a gaming geek that loves to play on the Xbox 360 or the PS3 and you have a penchant for gaudy geek jewelry this is the gift for you. A seller over on Etsy going by the user egyptianruin and selling in a store called Kelly’s Keychains has created some geeky rings that look like controllers for your favorite console.

You can hop over, see samples in black or white colors, and choose the color for your own ring from the list. You can get white, black, pink, blue, red, green, and halo green. A custom ring is $10 and the shipping to you is only a few more dollars.

Apparently, the rings are made from polymer clay and are hand sculpted. This store has some interesting stuff for sale. These would make nice gifts on the cheap for gaming fans of all sorts. I wonder where the PC gamer rings are. A cool gaming mouse with the cord that wraps around the finger would suffice.

I have talked about the uber geeky and cool motorcycle suits that the UD Replicas company makes before. One of my all time favorites was the Tron suit that came out around the time the film was in theaters. One of the most popular suits of all time for the company was the Batman suit that was based on the newer film The Dark Knight. Those suits have so far sold out in two releases.

The company has announced that if you want your own Batman suit, you will have a short time to order one since they are re-releasing the suit right now. The release is set to coincide somewhat with the film due next summer called The Dark Knight Rises. The suit is a real motorcycle suit that will protect the wearer in the event of a spill on their bike.

It has CE-approved body armor inside, Kevlar plates, and glove liners along with other safety features. The line includes full suits with a jacket, pants, and boots. There are also two stand-alone jackets in the line. The price for a full suit is $998 and the company offers a 3-month payment plan on the site. The re-released suit is limited to 450 units, orders will close on December 9, and a second edition of the Batman Begins suit is on order until October 31 with a Q1 delivery.

Apparently, there are Star Trek geeks in all parts of the world as evidenced by the pending launch of a Star Trek theme park in Aqaba, Jordan. The park is set to open in 2014 and will be part of the Red Sea Astrarium. The entertainment resort will be built on 184 acres and the Star Trek park will be among the attractions.

Apparently, the Jordan ruler, King Abdullah II is a huge Star Trek fan; in fact, he even had a non-speaking role in Star Trek: Voyager back in his teen days. The king is making an investment of $1.5 billion in the project according to a paper in the area. The resort that the park will be integrated into has all sorts of interesting things to offer.

In addition to the Star Trek park the Red Sea Astrarium will also have all sorts of real world features. There will be a pavilion for instance where businesses, students, and others can learn about solar and wind power along with graywater harvesting. The park is being licensed by CBS Consumer Products so it will be official.

I know there are a bunch of photography geeks that read SlashGear. Sure mostly you guys want to read about new hardware in the camera realm but on occasion we find suitably geeky stuff that you will like that is nothing to do with hardware. The last photography related thing of that sort was the Lens Bracelets back in November. Today I ran across some weird lens pillows that honestly don’t look very comfortable.

They are dubbed the Plushtography Pillow and there are a few different styles. The big one is a 24-105mm lens reproduction. It is made from felt and fleece. The fleece sounds fine and good, but anything I have ever touched with felt on it has been itchy. Granted these are more for looks than actually laying on. I bet you could pwn in a pillow fight with the big lens version.

Other than the big pillow I already mentioned you can also get a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens and a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 version. The lenses have all the correct markings and features of the real things too. I could see these sitting on the couch at a photography studio or the bed of your average photo geek. You can buy the smaller pillows for $35 and the big version is $80.

Hasbro is the toy company that was behind some of the toys that shaped my youth. Specifically, I had all the Transformers that my parents would let me have. I often broke them trying to transform them from robot to vehicle or whatever and they were a lot of fun. I also had loads of LEGO as a kid and spent more than a few days grounded thanks to the little blocks and my tendency to leave them laying around for my parents to step on.

When you combine LEGO-style building blocks with Transformers you really get my geek lust stoked and that is exactly what the first KRE-O building sets are offering. The construction sets are now in stores and the first series are Transformer sets that are tie-ins with the flick that hit theaters last week. There are a number of sets with prices running from $7.99 to $59.99 depending on the set.

Some are simple minifigs while others are larger and more complex Transformer bots. The sets are available in 16 different characters and styles and are for ages 6 and up. The transformation process from robot to vehicle requires the user to disassemble and reassemble.

So, you like the idea of a Tokyoflash watch and some binary goodness to your timekeeping, but you either can’t face decoding LEDs every time you want to know if you can stop work, or need something that looks a little more formal than the bridge of the original Star Ship Enterprise. Enter The Cadence Watch Company and its 4-Bit Chronograph Watch, which pairs analog hands with binary notation for a more subtle celebration of your geekiness.

Apparently one of the most common requests the company fielded was to add UTC time to their watch, and so the 4-Bit Chronograph shows coordinated universal time as well, handy if you’re wanting to compare numbers with your server. The 42mm stainless steel case is waterproof to 5ATM and has a leather wrist-band and luminescent hands.

The glass is sapphire-coated quartz, which should help avoid scratches, too. Sales are expected to kick off in July, with the watch priced at $195.

Press Release:

Cadence Watch Company Unveils 4-Bit Chronograph Watch

Sophisticated watch that uses 4-bit binary code to indicate hours now includes a chronograph– improves your geek cred

Philadelphia, PA – May 26, 2011 – The Cadence Watch Company is excited to introduce the new 4-Bit Chronograph Watch. The subtle yet classy timepiece brings geeks a fashionable watch while adding the functionality of a chronograph and Universal Coordinated Time (UTC).

Instead of Arabic or Latin numerals, the numbers on this dial are in 4-bit binary – the system of 1’s and 0’s that all computers rely on. This watch is classy enough to wear on any occasion, while geeky enough to show your membership in the elite group of techies.

Other 4-Bit Chronograph Watch features and functions include:

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) display – the standard time by which the world regulates clocks, time and computer servers
42mm stainless steel case – striking appearance, perfect for the boardroom or on the go
Luminescent watch hands – against the black face of the watch adds to the sophisticated look
Genuine leather wristband – with subtle saddle stitched two part leather strap and stainless steel buckle
Miyota quartz watch movement – makes for an extremely reliable timekeeper that never requires winding
Water resistant to 5ATM – convenient for everyday wearing
Sapphire coated quartz glass – helps prevent watch face from becoming scratched

“We are pleased to introduce a unique watch that is Geeky without being too noticeable, like something the head of IT would wear to a board meeting,” says Vanja Buvac, president and CEO of Cadence Watch Company. “Our 4-bit watch was a big hit, but the most requested feature was UTC.”

The 4-Bit Chronograph Watch retails at $195 and will be available for purchase in July at http://cadencewatch.com/4bit-chrono. Receive a 40% pre-order discount if you order before the watch becomes available. The original 4-Bit Watch is currently available for $90 at www.cadencewatch.com as well as ThinkGeek.com.

The nosepiece hides a thermistor, which tracks increasing heat – such as when you exhale strongly – and triggers the camera lens’ power and self-check procedure. The schematic for the whole thing is actually printed onto the mask, while the microcontroller for the thermistor is also mounted to the side of the open eye hole. Unfortunately you can’t actually see through the camera lens – nor take photos – but it’s geekily great all the same.

Among the cool V-Day gear is a plush heart pillow that has a rhythmic vibration. If that’s not geeky enough for you can give the LED Flashing Sweetheart Kit. You have to build this thing yourself, it comes with a heart shaped board and LEDs that have to be soldered on along with other parts. Nothing says love like a soldering gun.

You can also get a box of Mini Plush Microbes, stuffed animals FTW! My personal favorite is the 8-Bit Flower Bouquet. I think this is what Mario would have given the Princess for Valentine’s Day.

If Jabba the Hutt celebrated Christmas the celebration would probably include a bikini-clad princess dancing around, lots of frogs in jars to eat, and a bounty hunter delivering a carbonite encased Han Solo as a gift. This really cool Christmas ornament has surfaced at Oddee and it rocks.

The Boba Fett ornament is part of a collection of 20 geeky holiday decorations. I also really like the Star Trek centerpiece that shows Spock unboxing some Tribbles and Kirk getting a new yellow shirt. The Darth Vader nutcracker is also really funny and reminds me of Space Balls.

I could also get onboard with the Star Trek Stockings; though I suspect that red stocking will burst into flames at any moment since red shirts always die. If these decorations don’t tell Santa you are a geek, nothing will.

At the early stage of geekiness, you start to carry more gadgets like say an iPhone and an iPad. Once you move to higher levels of geekiness, you start to wear geeky clothing like the Large Pocket Shirt.

The shirt looks like those pocket undershirts by grandpa used to wear only the Large Pocket Shirt has a gynormous pocket. It has a single massive pocket that covers most of the user’s chest. It’s size to hold things, apparently things like giant office supplies.

The maker says that the pocket is large enough for you to actually fit your iPad in it. The shirt is made for 100% preshrunk cotton and comes in S-XL sizes for $30. Shipping is free and the shirt will ship on December 10.

What I need to decorate my sink with is this Uranium glow in the dark soap. The soap is marked with the periodic table notations for the soap and a single bar is not cheap at $6.99. You can buy an entire box of Dial soap for that price.

Each bar measures in at 2.25″ x 3″ x 1″ and its human tested and vegan free. Apparently, it smells like the ocean, which in Texas means it smells like oil and dead shrimp.

If you want to go a bit smaller in scale with your declarations and make them really geeky this year, you need to build this Lego Christmas tree diorama thingy. What we have here are the plans to build that looks like a little corner of a house with a blocky Christmas tree in it.

You can get the plans for building your own at the source link if you have Lego Digital Designer 4.0 software. This is the same software you needed for those Lego tree ornaments I mentioned a week or so back. You can also buy the complete kit at Lego Digital Designer for about $25. You can supply your own bricks too and just work form the plans.

I know I used to build all sorts of things from Lego, Tinker Toys, and Lincoln Logs. I still build stuff on occasion with my son out of Lego. A new set of building materials for geeks has debuted called Nanodots.

The little spheres are strong magnets and look like BB’s to me. Each of the beads is magnetized and they will stick together in any shape you can imagine. You can get the beads in four different colors including original (nickel), black, silver, and gold colors.

Each set of the beads comes with 216 little balls, a carry pouch, and an instruction manual with building tips. Pricing varies with the color with the cheapest being the original color at $29.99 per set and going to $39.99 per set for the gold Nanodots. You need a bunch of these if you want to get into complex shapes; some designs have over a thousand Nanodots.

If you want something cool to do with all that old hardware, the circuit board table is the perfect way to show off your geekiness.

The table is actually built from two tables. The inner table holds all the circuit boards you see inside the glass and wood outer table. Everything on the inside is visible thanks to lighting around the edges of the table.

The components inside the table are from an old Intergraph 6000 computer that was the first computer the builder of the table owned. Other than the parts from that first computer are components from other tech devices and parts from old 2800 baud modems.
