Midora game out of funding despite successful Kickstarter

Midora game out of funding despite successful Kickstarter

Crowdfunding campaigns don't always go the way backers would hope -- they're a risk, and if you're going to invest in one, you need to understand that. That's not to say that you shouldn't be upset if you money goes to waste; outright scams are quickly being targeted by legal measures, and questionable campaigns have resulted in refunds. There's the grey area, though, the campaigns that, despite valid efforts, don't end up working out as anticipated.

Apple Watch, Apple TV now run DOOM thanks to Facebook devs

It is a running joke tradition among gamers and computer geeks that a computer isn't really a proper computer until it can run DOOM. The very first DOOM, that is. Well, now you can consider the Apple Watch a proper computer. And the Apple TV too, of course. A pair of developers from Facebook's Tel-Aviv office spent their specially designated hackathon time to play around with iOS. And what better way to do that than by porting DOOM to run on Apple's latest non-desktop, non-mobile devices.

Humble Bundle is offering a monthly serving of games

It seems that the days of Humble Bundle being simply the best way to grab indie games is officially over. Well, it has long "evolved" from that original goal but now it is entering into a new stage of business. Now it will also have a monthly subscription service of its own. Called, what else, the Humble Monthly, the digital distribution platform is gearing up to offer a random and secret assortment of games every month for a flat fee of $12. Of course, part of that still goes to charity.

MAME emulator runs on new Apple TV, might be short-lived

MAME emulator runs on new Apple TV, might be short-lived

The new Apple TV marks Apple's more formal foray into the land of mobile gaming. But while iOS already does have a lot of titles, both big and small, in its App Store, the platform will be forever be deprived of one class of games, at least officially: emulated games. So when an emulator is shown working well on the new tvOS, there is indeed reason to take notice. But while iMAME does seem to run on the yet to be launched 4th gen Apple TV, it might not last the year, given Apple's policies.

Batman: Arkham Knight’s re-release for PC coming soon

Batman: Arkham Knight launched on PC in June as a veritable mess and was subsequently pulled as a result. Gamers had to wait months for the first patch that would fix those issues to arrive, but it went out only to those who already grabbed the game -- those who hadn't gotten ahold of the game before it was pulled were left without. That PC patch arrived earlier this month, and now it seems the game will be re-released in the near future.

Mobile devices are kids’ preferred gaming tools

Modern children prefer to play video games on mobile devices, according to a new report from NPD Group. The survey looked at kids ranging in age from 2 to 17, and discovered the PC has been knocked down from its top slot, no longer being the preferred gaming device. More than half of kids surveyed said they play video games on mobile devices regularly, while less than half of those kids reported playing games on a PC. The latter represents a 22 percent decrease over 2013’s report.
