Nintendo 3DS set to beat DS first-year sales

This week its appearing quite possible that regardless of doubts in its success and the whole price slash situation, the Nintendo 3DS may well surpass its DS predecessor's first year sales. It is important to note first of all that even though the price cut didn't make everyone on the streets happy, sales did rise significantly. Sales started to soar come August of this year, and now according to the NPD Group the system has passed the 1.65 million units sold mark in the USA putting the device right on track to beat out the original in the same span.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sets new sales record on launch day

The numbers are finally in from sales of the new Call of Duty game Modern Warfare 3, and as predicted, its Tuesday launch broke the record for opening day sales. On its launch day between the U.S. and Great Britain, Call of Duty's newest installment sold 6.5 million units in one day, that breaking the record with $400 million worth of retail sales. The previous record holder was, you guessed it, the last version of Call of Duty, this one called Black Ops and having generated $360 million in sales on its first day.

World’s first Angry Birds Shop open for business in Finland

All you lovers of the Angry Birds brand can rest easy knowing there's an Angry Birds-centric store headed your way soon, as the first shop has officially opened its doors for business in Helsinki, Finland. Of course Finland is the birthplace of Angry Birds and still where Rovio, the developer of said game resides, so of course the first store should open in such a place. Of course we've got to wait and see how well it does before more shops open nationwide and worldwide, but for now, we've got our own versions in just sections of stores such as the one you'll see a bit later in this post, complete with hookahs.

Steam Hacked, Credit Card Information Theft Possible says Valve

This week Valve Corporation head Gabe Newell has announced that the gaming hub Steam has suffered an attack on their forums which may well have put credit card numbers and other users personal information at risk. The attack apparently went down this Sunday and Valve is currently letting everyone who had any personal info listed at Steam to watch their credit card activity in the near future for possible fraudulent activity. Here after the attack the Steam Forums are closed and will remain closed for the time being while Steam itself will remain operating as normal.

With Pokemon still absent from iOS, MinoMonsters looks to steal the show

There's this fellow by the name of Josh Buckley out there, ladies and gentlemen, he's a developer of games, webpages, and environments who's done so much in the position he's in that he's been called "the Harry Potter of startups" by Paul Graham - and now he's coming for you, Nintendo, and he's got your little monsters in his sights. This Buckley fellow has apparently been making games and online-based communities since he was in his early teens, having made his first 6-figure sell of a webpage he'd created when he was just 15. He's since started a game environment by the name of MinoMonsters with his partner TJ Murphy and plan on filling the space left by the absence of massively popular Nintendo-based game Pokemon with said game starting December the 6th.

Over in England at London's Old Billingsgate Market there's been a gigantic launch party with music, dancing, and running at high speed as the game was handed out to attendees - or there would have been if 574 Game and Gamestation stores across the country hadn't also released the game to queues of fans having waited for hours before launch. The world record lies on the line, the entertainment-industry record for most revenue generated in its opening five days having been set by the last Call of Duty game, Black Ops.

This week Rovio has announced that not only had they jumped above 500 million downloads with Angry Birds, they'd therefore become the one with the most downloaded game in the history of gaming. As it appears that the Guinness Book of World Records doesn't have such a listing, I suppose we'll have to take their word for it. Of course that's not the only statistic Rovio is offering up this week, they going on to note that their users average about 300 million minutes of playing time a day, that equaling out to 200,000 years of playing time so far in total for the Angry Birds suite.
