Star Wars The Old Republic now set for global simultaneous launch

It's time for the newest and hopefully last date change for the release of the Star Wars MMORPG - The Old Republic. This is a game that, for the lay person, will be comparable to World of Warcraft in its scope, allowing players to create their own character with whom they'll be able to experience the entire Star Wars universe as it unfolds before them. Have battles, accomplish missions, swing some lightsabers around, the whole shebang. The newest word on this upcoming game is that there will be a global launch - with North America and the European territories on the list thus far and no sign of greater Asia - on December 20th, 2011.

Grand Theft Auto III for iOS and Android soon, physical action figure in tow

While the Grand Theft Auto game franchise had been around for years before the 2001 release of GTA:III, it was that drive a car and shoot your neighbor installment of the game that really, really made the Rockstar Games-made shooter take off. And now, ten years later, we get to play it on our mobile devices. Grand Theft Auto III has been announced to be coming both to Apple's iOS mobile operating system AND to a handful of Google's Android devices as well, though on both platforms there will be device limits. ALSO there's an action figure in the mix, just incase you want something you can set on your desk while you're crashing into cop cars and punching prostitutes in the face.

This week social gaming giant Zynga has announced its intent to go solo in more ways than one. First, a reminder that Zynga will be offered publicly soon (stock up!), next, a new announcement about Project Z, a new website where the Zynga environment will be hosted. As of now, Zynga is dependent on platforms such as Facebook and apps on mobile operating systems as their main source of gaming users. What Project Z will be is no less than a fully functional independent webpage that includes social networking and the full collection of Zynga games. Should their current hosts be worried?

Lovers of fabulous racing games will be glad to know that the world's greatest mobile-based jetski racing game, Riptide GP, will be flowing across the entirety of Android this month. Up until now, the game had been exclusive to NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor-having devices because the developers of this game had worked closely with the support team at the chipmaker to optimize it for their current hero chip. The folks at Microsoft have announced plans today to expand their Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE functionality to include a slew of new services, partners, and functionality. More than 20 countries are involved in the rolling out of this expansion, partners ranging from HBO to Verizon to the BBC to Televisa, everyone's in on it! There's a unified dashboard for Xbox LIVE, Comcast Xfinity integration, 26 new channels of live TV in the USA, further Bing search integration with voice-powered search, "more entertainment options" including Zone marketplace expansion with Xbox LIVE and Kinect, a handful of new apps, sharing, and music discovery. Is it time everyone jumped aboard this Xbox 360 as entertainment station train? Quite possibly yes!

That's what we've got right here, folks, a third-person shooter by the name of Shadowgun, made by Madfinger games for iOS and Android - today the news being the optimized version for the Android-based NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor. If you're a fan of one of the most famous fighting-based video games of all time, Mortal Kombat, certainly you've heard of the YouTube fan series "Rebirth." Oh you haven't? You're in for a treat. Not only is the story at hand a rebirth of the film series based on the video game, its a rebirth of the career of the filmmaker whose only other notable work is an unsuccessful remake of "Fame". The short film that started it all was created out of love for the series - and a desire to reboot the series. Turns out his gamble (and the good timing with the newest installment of the video game series) payed off because Warner Bros. is giving the creators the green light.
