Xi3 has just started taking pre-orders for its PISTON Console. The console is deeply integrated with Valve's Steam and its Big Picture mode that allows gamers to play their favorite Steam games on the big screen using a gaming controller. Xi3's PISTON Console is the first unoffical "Steam Box" to be announced, with Valve planning on working with more manufacturers to release their own version of the Steam Box in time for the holidays. While the PISTON Console isn't the official Steam Box that Valve is planning on releasing in the future, Valve is still helping Xi3 finance the device. Read The Full Story

SimCity increases stability and considers ‘offline mode’ in the future

SimCity has updated its blog and has stated that its making good progress in restoring stability to its servers. Lucy Bradshaw, the General Manager of EA's Maxis Label, stated that tens of thousands of new players are logging into SimCity everyday. SimCity's launch on March 5th was admittedly a huge failure. The always-on DRM and the server issues with the game resulted in a majority of players being unable to login, download the game, or even unlock their game. Read The Full Story

Ultima creator launches Kickstarter for RPG sequel

The creator of the hugely popular Ultima Franchise, Richard Garriott, is gearing up to launch a new online sequel to the game that is going to take the RPG world by storm. The game is called Shroud of the Avatar:Forsaken Virtues. In order to create his new sequel, Garriott has launched a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of accumulating $1 million in order to finance the project. Garriott hopes to launch the game by October 2014. EA offers all SimCity owners a free game

EA's SimCity launched with disastrous results. EA wanted to prevent piracy of the game, so they added the Always-On DRM feature that would require players to login to its online servers in order to play their game. While the Always-On DRM feature is good for protecting against piracy, it resulted in an unmitigated login disaster for SimCity. Many gamers were unable to login, downloads were severely slow, people weren't able to unlock their games, and many were unable to enjoy a game they've anticipated for so long. Read The Full Story

Capcom wants Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate sales to take off in the U.S.

Capcom hopes to increase the popularity of its Monster Hunter game series in the U.S. The franchise has been and still is one of the most popular in Japan. Throughout the world, the Monster Hunter game series has sold over 22 million copies, but the majority of the sales occurred in Japan. There have been 9 official games released for the series, and a 10th one currently still in development. Mass Effect Citadel DLC to be split into two downloads for Xbox 360

While PC and PlayStation 3 gamers will be receiving their Citadel DLC in a single file download, for some strange reason, Xbox 360 gamers will have their Citadel DLC split into two separate download packs. Bioware says that the download size of the DLC is too big compared to the previous DLC packs, resulting in the decision to split the file into two downloads. Dark Horse to release new Mass Effect comic series

Dark Horse plans on releasing a new Mass Effect comic series titled, Mass Effect: Foundation. The series will be written by Mac Walters, who also helped write Mass Effect 2, and was the story lead writer for Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect: Foundation is said to feature a strong female character, and that the storyline is going to go back to existing stories in the Mass Effect universe and elaborate on them more. Eidos Interactive defends Tomb Raider’s Age 18+ rating

The new Tomb Raider is set to come out within the next few days and it has a lot of gamers eager to test it out. Many game critics have given the series reboot positive reviews saying that a refresh to the Tomb Raider franchise has been a long time coming. The game, however, has been receiving some concerned feedback on one aspect, and that's the 18+ maturity rating it's labeled with. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag trailer prematurely leaked

Ubisoft made a teaser for its "world premiere trailer" for the next game in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The world premiere was supposed to take place on Monday, but unfortunately for Ubisoft, the trailer was leaked prematurely. The trailer was leaked through GameRadar's YouTube channel, and taken down soon afterwards, but to Ubisoft's horror, many more copies of the videos took its place. Read The Full Story

Smartphones and tablets are currently the most popular devices for game developers to release games on. It shouldn't be surprising given how many people own smartphones and/or tablets, and want mobile games to play in order to pass the time. NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD demos Burn Zombie Burn

NVIDIA gives us a sneak peak at one of their "5 games optimized for the Tegra 4" by demoing it on their portable gaming device, Project SHIELD. The game, titled Burn Zombie Burn, is a title that originated from the PlayStation 3 and is now finding its way onto mobile devices. The game developer, Tick Tock Games, wanted to delve into the mobile gaming industry, and the NVIDIA Tegra 4 allows them to do that without needing to sacrifice quality.
