It’s out now, available for download from the Google Play app store and it’s completely free. When you first head back to your home screen after installing, you’ll be met by a pop-up that asks which launcher you’d like to use.

In case you were too busy watching (or dodging) the April Fool’s hoopla that abounded yesterday, you might have missed this tidbit: AT&T lowered the price of its GALAXY S 3 handset, no doubt in preparation of the S 4 set to hit shelves in the coming weeks. If you’ve been planning to update your Galaxy smartphone but aren’t keen on jumping straight to the recently announced flagship, here’s your change to get prime hardware at a discounted rate.

Now that the GALAXY S 4 has been announced, we’ll probably be seeing the S 3 drop in price across multiple carriers, but for now AT&T is the only one to take the plunge. If you’ve got an open slot for a new contract and you’re not afraid of a 2-year commitment, the still high-end GALAXY S 3 can be yours from the carrier for only $99, a steep drop of $100 over the previous price.

Those who aren’t afraid to take on a previously used device can get a better deal with a refurbished unit, which AT&T is offering with contract for $29, perhaps the most economical way to get your hands on an S 3. If you’re on the fence about whether to get the S 3 or jump straight to the S 4, the latter handset will be priced at $249 with the same contract commitment, a nearly $150 jump.

In case you missed it, you can check out our review of the GALAXY S 3 here, where we detail the handset in all its glory. The S 3 offers a 4.8-inch 1280 x 720 display, as well as a 2100mAh battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, microSD support up to 64GB, 8-megapixel rear camera, and 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.

Android 5.0 (rumored to be named Key Lime Pie) hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it’s already rumored to be coming to the now-last-generation Samsung Galaxy S III, as well as the Galaxy Note II. Furthermore, it’s also said that the Galaxy S II and the original Galaxy Note will eventually be receiving the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update.

It’s said that Samsung will only be updating five of its devices to Android 5.0 when it eventually releases. These devices include the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Note 10.1, and of course, the new Galaxy S 4. While there’s no definitive release date for Android 5.0, we could see it announced at this year’s Google I/O conference.

As for Android 4.2.2, 15 Samsung devices are on the list to receive the update, all of which will see the updates ending after the 4.2.2 update. The Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S III Mini, Galaxy S II Plus, and the Galaxy Beam are just a few of the handsets that are said to have made the cut for the Jelly Bean update.

Again, this is just rumored for now, and hopefully we’ll actually hear from Samsung after Google I/O as far as upgrading devices to Android 5.0. Samsung is second to Google as far as companies who update the most devices to the latest version of Android. All of the Nexus devices receive updates to the latest Android version, while Samsung follows just behind the search giant.

The new Galaxy S 4 may have been unveiled last week, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping Samsung and carriers from marketing its current flagship, the Galaxy S III. It’s rumored that a new color option will be available for the device starting in April. Users will be able to pick purple, along with the current pebble blue and marble white options, as well as a few other options exclusive to different carriers.

The leak comes from EVLeaks, which has provided reliable leaks in the past, including renders of the HTC One. This time around, however, we’re given a peek at the classy, brushed purple paint job on the Galaxy S III, which may not cater toward a majority of users, but we have to say it looks rather slick.

However, the purple color option will only be available on the Now Network, meaning that Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile customers won’t be able to get the device in that color. The purple-laden Galaxy S III is said to land sometime in mid-April, which would be just a couple weeks before the launch of the Galaxy S 4.

If or when the purple device ends up getting official, it’ll most likely be priced at $100 after signing a new two-year contract, while Amazon may likely price the phone at next to nothing, considering that the device is reaching its first birthday, which usually spells the end of most smartphones’ life cycle as a flagship product.

The Samsung GALAXY S 4 is official, and now that we got our hands on the new device, it’s time to see how it compares to Samsung’s previous Galaxy S handset, the Galaxy S III. Obviously the GALAXY S 4 is an improvement over its predecessor in almost every way, but what exactly has changed here? Let’s take a look.

As for looks, both devices are almost look identical, save for a few changes to the edges. They both have the rounded top and bottom, and the earpiece and home button look very similar. However, the biggest difference cosmetically is the larger 5-inch display on the S 4, while the Galaxy S III is left with a smaller, lower resolution 4.8-inch screen.

However, it’s really the internals that you’ll want to focus on when comparing these two handsets. The GALAXY S 4 runs a quad-core Snapdragon CPU clocked at 1.9GHz (a 1.6GHz Exynos in some regions), while the Galaxy S III touts a Snapdragon S4 dual-core chip clocked at just 1.5GHz. There’s also 2GB of RAM in the S 4, which is the same in the S III. However, the camera is where there’s a big difference: a 13MP sensor in the S 4, while the S III only rocks an 8MP shooter.

Then again, the display is where the GALAXY S 4 really shines when compared to the S III. a 5-inch 1080p display is pretty much unbeatable right now. As for the question of whether or not you should upgrade from the Galaxy S III to the S 4, it certainly doesn’t hurt to do such a thing. There’s definitely faster internals, more features, and that larger screen and camera. However, if you’re still rocking a contract with the S III, don’t worry about having to wait it out. The S 4 will still be here waiting for you when you’re eligible for an upgrade.

There’s also a few new software features in the S 4 as well, including Smart Scroll and Smart Pause, both of which may come in a future Android update for the Galaxy S III, but that’s simply just rumored at this point. Of course, we’ll be taking the GALAXY S 4 and put it through its paces in a full review, but for now, this new device is quite the beast. We’ve already compared it to other new handsets on the market right now, including the iPhone 5 and the HTC One, which was just recently announced last week.

Samsung’s Galaxy S III has sold massive quantities, hitting the 30 million mark back in November 2012. In light of this, the Korean company will be releasing an updated version of the handset, something it has done with other smartphones for smaller markets. The updated version will include, among other things, an HD display.

Samsung doesn’t typically roll out updated versions of its handsets in the US, but given the Galaxy S III’s rampant popularity, it would seem the company wants to take the device as far as it will go. Other handsets that have been revamped include the Galaxy S II Plus and the Galaxy S Advance back in 2012.

The information surfaced on Twitter courtesy of journalist Eldar Murtazin, who dropped a tweet with a few details earlier today and confirmed the Galaxy S III’s impending revamp. Although it isn’t an official statement, Murtazin has posted correct information in the past, including recently that the Galaxy S IV would be launched on March 14th in NYC.

According to a Google translation of the tweet, the refreshed Galaxy S III will feature an updated HD display, although it isn’t definitive if it will be 1080p. The battery will also get a boost to a 2400mAh capacity, and even better will feature wireless charging, something that was supposed to be a regular feature for the handset. The updated handset is said to be slated for arrival after the S IV is unveiled.

As Samsung gains a whirlwind of attention this week before its big Samsung Galaxy S4 event on the 14th, (one week from today), both the S4 and the Note III have been given some rather impressive unofficial specification sets. The details we’re about to compare are not official and have not been confirmed by Samsung in any way. On the other hand, you can count on most or all of them due to the relatively predictable incremental steps every technology company takes when releasing products in a highly popular brand line.

So you’re planning on deciding between the Samsung Galaxy S IV (or S4, whichever you prefer) and the Samsung Galaxy Note III, yes? They’re going to be exceedingly similar when it comes down to it, their display size and abilities with or without the Samsung S-Pen notwithstanding. So here’s what we’ve got – and remember, all of this is based on tips, leaks, and rumors galore. The details for each of the specifications listed are either listed in the timeline at the end of this post or are brought up with educated guesses on the part of your friends at SlashGear.

Display

Galaxy S4
5-inch display (aka 4.99-inch)
AMOLED
1080 x 1920 pixel resolution
440 PPI

Galaxy Note III
6-inch display (aka 5.9-inch)
AMOLED
1080 x 1920 pixel resolution
376 PPI

Processor Manufacturer

Both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III will quite likely be using the new Samsung Exynos 5 Octa quad-core processor. Note that there will actually be 8 CPU cores here, but that each of the four main cores will be “backed up”, so to speak, by another core for low power tasks. So just as the NVIDIA Tegra 3 and Tegra 4 have five CPU cores, one of them being a sort of “ninja” core for low power tasks, so too is this new Exynos beast for both the Galaxy S4 and Note III.

It’s also important to note that with the Galaxy Note II the same processor was used for all models while the Galaxy S III had Exynos internationally and Qualcomm Snapdragon inside the USA. Because Samsung has come a bit of a way since all the way back when the Galaxy S III was revealed, there’s a chance they’ll be releasing the Galaxy S4 with the same processor worldwide – we shall see!

Camera Power

A back-facing 13 megapixel camera with advanced photography software can be expected on both the Galaxy S IV and the Galaxy Note III. At the moment there’s no reason to believe that the Galaxy Note III will have anything less than the Galaxy S4, and as in the past, we’re not expecting the Note to out-do the S hero in this respect. The front-facing camera will also likely be the same on both devices at 2 megapixels – with 1080p video capabilities on both sides.

S-Pen Functionality

One of the two big differentiators between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note III will be the built-in S-Pen that the Note is known for. We’re expecting abilities advanced beyond what we’ve seen on the Note II, but won’t expect the actual hardware to be much different from what we’ve seen on the Galaxy Note 8.0 just this past month at MWC 2013. Have a peek at our hands-on with the Note 8.0 to grab a bit more insight – one of the biggest changes will be the ability to tap the back and menu buttons off-display with the pen – neat!

Conclusion: we’re all winners!

The big decision you’re going to be making – when it comes down to it again – is how long you’re willing to wait for Samsung’s 2013 vision for the perfect smartphone. You’ve got the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II out on the market already – both of them perfectly capable machines in their own right, but you want to go forth and grab the next big thing.

It all started when Terence Eden discovered a bug that allowed someone to briefly access the home screen on a Galaxy Note II. Following the method to take advantage of the bug, another individual named Sean McMillan discovered another method that allows complete access to the handset’s home screen, and not just for the Galaxy Note II. He reportedly tested the method on three Galaxy S III handsets, and it worked on each of them.

The process, when followed correctly, results in not only the user gaining access to the handset’s home screen without correctly entering the lock screen, but it also removes the needs to enter the pattern, PIN, or other lock method in place once the bypass has been successfully used. Because the bug was replicated on more than one type of Samsung handset, it is possible the issue lies with Samsung’s software rather than with the Android OS.

The folks over at ZDNet say they have confirmed the bugs on both the Galaxy S III and Note II. After what they report was tricky timing issues with getting the method just right, they were able to entirely bypass the lock screen on the Galaxy S III, which was running Android 4.1.2. With the Galaxy Note II, they got the initial bug that provides brief access to the home screen to work, but not the latter method.

If you own one of these two devices and would like to give it a try, the bug is pretty simple. Enter “Emergency Call” from the lock screen and open “Emergency Contacts.” From there, press the Home button, then immediately press the Power button. Press the Power button again, and you’ll be taken to the home screen instead of the lock screen.

It has been a while since we last heard about the patent war between Apple and Samsung, but that doesn’t mean the two companies haven’t been busy going at each other. Earlier today, it was ruled that both companies can introduce new gadgets into their ongoing lawsuit, including the iPhone 5 and Galaxy Note II. Both sides claim the other’s gadgets infringe on its patents.

Back on November 16, Judge Paul Grewal had ruled that both companies could add products to the lawsuit, citing concerns that not allowing them to do so would prompt new lawsuits. Earlier today, Judge Grewal once again approved the adding of products to the lawsuit for both Apple and Samsung, with the former adding five.

Apple has tacked the Galaxy S III running Android 4.1, as well as the Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 8.9 with wifi, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and the Rugby Pro to its filings. Samsung, meanwhile, was a tad more conservative, simply adding the iPhone 5. The trial isn’t set to take place until March of 2014, so we’ll likely see more products added before it’s all said and done.

Neither Samsung nor Apple have made any public comments on the update yet. This is part of an ongoing lawsuit between the two companies, with both claiming harm due to the actions of the other. If you feel like picking your way through the legalese, you can check out the lawsuit Apple v. Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) Ltd., 12-cv-00630, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California (San Jose).

Amid the chaos of CES 2013, we discovered that Pelican is plotting to enter the mobile case business. The company was showing off cases for the iPhone 5 and iPad, but it also had two cases for the Samsung Galaxy S III on hand and ready to show off. The cases we saw for the Galaxy S III were certainly impressive, and if you find other protective cases a bit too bulky, you might want to give these a look.

That’s because Pelican’s goal with these cases seems to be to protect the phone from all manner of damage while keeping the overall size down. That’s especially important with the Galaxy S III, which is a pretty thin phone – having a big, bulky case attached to such a sleek phone would ruin the aesthetic, so Pelican is trying to hit the protection bullet points while keeping a thinner form factor overall.

The first case we have is the ProGear Vault Series, which actually requires you that use screws to seal your phone within the case. While that will make removing your phone a bit more difficult than your usual case that snaps together, there are benefits in that it makes the case resistant to “wind-driven rain.” The case also offers protection against dust and scratches, thanks to the fact that its made from magnesium and engineering-grade polymer. This case really locks down every opening you can think of with your phone, with Pelican even placing acoustic membranes over the microphone and speaker openings to prevent water from getting in without hindering audio quality. The Vault Series, which is also shockproof from a height of 72 inches, will be releasing in April or May with a “tentative” price of $75-$80.

Next we have the ProGear Defender Series, which is a little more accessible for folks who want to keep their phone safe without spending an arm and a leg on a case. The Defender obviously boasts fewer features than its more expensive brother, but it’s built with the same engineering-grade polymer and sports a rubber interior to make the case crushproof and shock-resistant. It also has a smooth plastic finish to make it easier to pull your out of your pocket. At the moment, Pelican is saying that the Defender series should launch in April with a price point of $35, but those could change by the time its release rolls around.

So there you have it, a duo of new cases from Pelican for your Galaxy S III. The cases seemed pretty solid when we checked them out, and the felt pretty light to boot, which means that they shouldn’t add too much weight to your phone. Expect to see more of Pelican in the mobile space as moving forward, but for now, be sure to check out our CES portal for all the news you need from the show!

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III smartphone has been available for some time now, but it’s still one of the best Android devices out there, and carriers are still promoting it as one of their elite devices to choose from. Case in point, it’s rumored that T-Mobile will be outing an LTE version of the Galaxy S III sometime next year.

A Samsung GSM phone that goes by the model name SGH-T999L has just been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, and it’s presumably a version of the Samsung Galaxy S III that’s tailored for sale with T-Mobile in the US, since the current T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S III goes by the model name SGH-T999.

The “L” that’s tacked onto the end of the rumored device is allegedly short for “LTE”, meaning there could be an LTE variant of the Galaxy S III making its way to T-Mobile sometime soon. While this doesn’t do the carrier any good now, T-Mobile is expected to launch its own LTE network at some point in 2013, so it makes sense that they’re readying LTE phones for when they launch their LTE network.

Then again, the T-Mobile Galaxy Note II has LTE on board, which will eventually be enabled when the carrier launches LTE, so this new Galaxy S III with LTE might release a little earlier than T-Mobile’s own LTE. However, take it with a grain of salt because it could end up that the SGH-T999L might be something completely different, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground.

A horde of Samsung Galaxy S III owners have taken to Reddit and the XDA Developers forum to complain about sudden bricking that’s happening to their phones, just a few months after buying them brand new. Users have been reporting that their phones simply won’t turn on again after charging overnight or after the screen has been turned off.

Users are reporting that the mainboards are the root of the problem, and that the flash memory is becoming corrupted and failing. It’s reported that Samsung is replacing them under warranty whether or not people have rooted the device or not, but it’s said that the company is using the same revision of mainboards when replacing them, which may cause the phones to just experience the same problem again sometime down the line.

While this may not be a widespread issue that a lot of people should panic about, the Reddit thread already has 155 comments and over 350 points, and the thread on the XDA Developers forum has 65 pages of comments, suggesting that this is a topic well worth discussing, and that a widespread issue may be under way.

Samsung hasn’t officially acknowledged the issue yet, but users who have sent their devices in for repair say they have been told by multiple employees that the issue appears to be happening to many people as of late. So while it seems it’s an issue that Samsung will deal with, our guess is that they’ll keep mum on the details of the situation.

If you’re not satisfied with the battery life of your Galaxy S III, Samsung is finally offering a solution that will boost the juice a couple more hours for their flagship device. The company will be releasing a 3,000 mAh extended battery to UK users at a price of £39.99 through Mobile Fun. While there’s no release date specified, the battery is up for pre-order right now.

The extended battery compares to Samsung’s Galaxy Note II, which has a monstrous 3,100 mAh battery to power that large 5.5-inch display. With the Galaxy S III getting a 3,000 mAh option, users will certainly see a longer run time with the device before having to plug it into the wall, compared to the stock 2,100 mAh battery.

The battery will ship with a modified back cover to accomodate the larger battery, so you’ll have to make sure to choose the same color as your phone — either white or pebble blue. It’s also a good idea to keep in mind that the bigger battery will add a little bit of weight and size to the Galaxy S III, so be prepared to carry around a larger device.

There’s no word on whether or not the extended battery will make its way stateside. We’re guessing that it has a good chance, but we don’t recommend anticipating its arrival just yet. It could be a couple of months before Americans can get a hold of it, and maybe even longer. In either case, if you live in the UK, the extended battery us available now for pre-order.

Samsung has started rolling out the Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update for international Galaxy S III users, bringing with it a series of features call the Premium Suite Upgrade. Galaxy users can now enjoy some features already available to Galaxy Note II users, such as multi-window view. Thus far, users in Poland, India, the UK, France, Sweden, Italy, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Algeria are seeing the update.

The update is split into two categories: contextual awareness and enhanced features. The contextual awareness updates include Page Buddy, which is a predictive feature that prompts your phone to respond to your actions, such as launching the music player when headphones are plugged in. A contextual menu now allows users to view the most frequently used apps first, while contextual tagging allows users to immediately tag photos with date, place, and weather.

The enhanced features, meanwhile, include multi-window support, something Galaxy Note II users have been able to enjoy for awhile. Users can now view two apps simultaneously via dual windows, or can switch to Reader Mode and tweak text size while single-click sharing Web pages. Facebook Lock Ticker makes it easy for users to monitor their Facebook news feeds via a ticker on the lock screen. Finally, Galaxy S III users can now auto share snapshots via an “Auto Share Shot” mode on the camera, allowing photos and videos to be shared with NFC.

If you look closely, you’ll see that the video above is labelled as Part 1; Samsung teases us in the announcement with an allusion to more features that will be announced in Part 2. Need something to keep you entertained until the update rolls your way? Check out this video of how Samsung stress tests the Galaxy S III, which includes mechanical button pushing and a robotic backside clad in denim jeans sitting squarely on the screen.

As December begins, the year starts coming to a close, and with that comes the “best of 2012″ awards for pretty much everything. Video tracking service Visible Measures has rounded up the most popular tech ads of 2012, and surprisingly, Apple isn’t in the top five. Even more surprising, is that Samsung owns three out of the top five spots on the list — the number one ad being Samsung’s iPhone-mocking commercial that touts “the next best thing is already here.”

Samsung’s top ad received 71.8 million views this year, which is nearly four times the views of Apple’s top ad, which took the #6 spot. However, Apple’s ad isn’t even really an ad, but rather just one of Apple’s introduction videos, which is the seven-minute-long video introducing the iPhone 5 in this case. That video garnered almost 18.4 million views.

Samsung has been one of the big success stories over the last year, mostly thanks to its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, but the marketing team that works behind the scenes for the Korean manufacturer can also be to blame for the company’s success, due to the several clever commercials that they’ve released throughout the year.

Other notable tech ads that claimed top spots on the list include “The Beauty Inside” commercial from Toshiba and Intel, which got over 54.4 million views, and “LeBron’s Day”, which features NBA superstar LeBron James. That ad ended up fetching just over 42.1 million views. Other companies who made the top ten include Google, LG, and Microsoft.

We’ve all seen those ridiculous drop tests. The ones where people drop brand new gadgets on purpose and try to get them to break. While we all know that almost any smartphone will break when you drop it, what we really want to know is how smartphones hold up when their buttons are pressed thousands of times in a row. Samsung has released a video demonstrating their process of stress testing their flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, and it’s actually really interesting to watch.

The video isn’t in English, and YouTube’s built-in closed captioning translation system isn’t that great, so don’t bother turning your sound up to hear it. In any case, the video shows you several of Samsung’s stress tests, including sitting on the phone, putting it through a water bath, twisting it, and pushing the buttons 200,000 times in a row.

One of the tests includes quite a risque robotic caboose dressed in denim jeans and all, sitting on the phone in order to simulate the moments when users sit on their phones while its in their back pocket. We had no idea that Samsung went through the trouble of building a fake rear end in order test the durability of their devices.

Overall, knowing what companies put their devices through before selling them to the public is reassuring. While some people might scoff at plastic-built phones and call them fragile, manufacturers like Samsung and others seem to be spending a lot of time trying out different building materials in order to keep the phones durable and long-lasting.

While Black Friday isn’t for another few days, RadioShack is already getting a head start on the deals. Today, they’re offering a Samsung Galaxy S III for only $50, but in return, you’ll get a $50 gift card to the Google Play store. So essentially, it’s like getting a Galaxy S III for free, and you’ll be able to download a ton of paid apps while you’re at it.

If you’re even remotely thinking about buying a Galaxy S III for yourself or even a loved one this holiday season, you should take a peek at the RadioShack deal. It’s essentially a great deal for those who are new to Android, since the $50 Google Play gift card would be great to get new users on the fast track to buying and downloading some cool apps.

The deal is only good on certain carriers, which include AT&T, Verizon, and the Now Network. T-Mobile and US Cellular customers are out of luck on this deal. Of course, you’ll have to sign a new two-year contract in order to get the phone for the $50 price tag, but the Galaxy S III will definitely keep your significant other happy for two years.

On top of the GSIII deal, RadioShack is offering $10 cash back for every $50 spent in its stores and online, so even if you’re not into the Galaxy S III, you may want to see if you can do some of your Christmas shopping at RadioShack if you can. Of course, tons of stores offer similar “cash back” deals year-round, but if there’s something at RadioShack that’s on your shopping list, this may be the best time to get it.

Samsung’s popular Galaxy S III flagship smartphone has hit the 30 million sales mark. This number accounts for all sales worldwide, and is in line with the series’ ever-growing sales number. Back in 2011, Samsung announced that the Galaxy S hit 10 million sales in seven months, and not too long after that, the Galaxy S II hit the 20 million mark.

Samsung Poland made the announcement on its Twitter and Facebook pages, both of which display a picture of what are apparently very enthusiastic employees holding number signs. Both the Facebook status and the tweet read, “We have already sold 30,000,000 Samsung SDSIII worldwide! Have you had a change to test its features?”

The Galaxy S III has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Both 16GB and 32GB models are available, and there’s a microSD slot that supports expansion up to 64GB. Around back you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, while on the front there’s a 1.9-megapixel camera. The phone itself is made of scratch-resistant plastic. Check out our review for more info.

This announcement comes shortly after Samsung revealed that the Galaxy Note II, it’s 5.5-inch phablet smartphone, sold 3 million units in a little over one month. Due to the popularity of these phones, Samsung has launched some spin offs, including the Galaxy S III Mini, which features a 4-inch AMOLED display with an 800 x 480 resolution. We reported yesterday that the upcoming Mini is slated for launch in the UK on November 8.

Regional carrier MetroPCS announced last month that Samsung’s Galaxy S III would be hitting its network sometime in October, and the carrier has kept up on its promise. The handset will be arriving to MetroPCS on Monday, which means you’ll have a long weekend ahead of you if you’re wanting in on the fun.

Come October 22, you’ll be able to grab one of Samsung’s Galaxy S III devices on a cheap carrier, and they even announced pricing today as well so that you can start counting those pennies in your piggy bank. Off-contract pricing for the GS III will be $499, with LTE plans running anywhere from $30 to $70 a month.

The Galaxy S III will be MetroPCS‘s most powerful smartphone to date. The handset has a huge 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED 720p display, and beneath that is a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM. On the back there’s an 8MP rear camera that’s capable of shooting 720p video. It also has WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and a barometer.

While the Galaxy S III is currently running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Samsung has said that a long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is on its way within the next couple of months.
Chitika conducted an analysis on millions of mobile ad impressions on the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III, which spanned a 7-day period from October 3 to October 9. Obviously, the iPhone 5 was only a couple weeks old at the time, but after the week-long study, Chitika found that out of all the web traffic coming from these two devices, the iPhone 5 claimed 56% of it.

That’s a pretty amazing statistic for a phone that’s only three weeks old, releasing just last month on September 22. The Galaxy S III was released on May 29, which was more than four months ago. However, this doesn’t mean that Galaxy S III sales are doing poorly, and I’m sure Samsung is very happy with the way the device is moving.

Then again, these statistics are showing that iPhone users are the most active when it comes to the mobile web, and Chitika argues that web developers are targeting the iPhone 5 first when it comes to optimizing online content for mobile consumption. However, the Galaxy S III and other Android devices obviously aren’t being ignored.

T-Mobile has been working hard lately to up their game as a contending carrier — they just bought MetroPCS, and they hired a new CEO not too long ago to turn the company around. Today, the carrier announced some more news that is sure to bolster up its credibility. The Samsung Galaxy S III is T-Mobile’s all-time best-selling device.

Of course, this is probably more of a shout-out to Samsung than to T-Mobile, but at least people are buying Galaxy S IIIs on T-Mobile’s network. Then again, the carrier didn’t disclose exactly how many Galaxy S IIIs they sold, but it could be safe to assume that they didn’t sell as many as other larger carriers.

However, this means that sales of the Galaxy S III on T-Mobile eclipsed that of previous hyped-up devices like the Galaxy S II, G2, G2x, and a variety of the carrier’s MyTouch devices. You might be wondering where the iPhone stands on T-Mobile’s all-time best-selling list, but if you’re familiar with the carrier, then you’ll know they don’t directly sell the iPhone, which makes them the only major carrier who doesn’t offer Apple’s smartphone to customers.

Then again, today’s T-Mobile achievement says a lot about Samsung. They’re a dominating force in the Android industry, and no doubt are they giving Apple a run for their money. The Galaxy S III has succeeded at being one of the best-selling devices period, selling 20 million units in just three months. The holiday season is still upon, so we’re looking forward to how Samsung and mobile carriers are going market their lineup of devices to bring in even more sales.

We’ve heard a lot of chatter from Samsung about when they’re going to be bringing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to their flagship Galaxy S III for US users to enjoy. The update has been slowly rolling out to various countries, including several in Europe, but now Samsung is telling us that the US will get Jelly Bean eventually, but still no final release date.

Samsung has put together a list on their support page that shows us which of their US smartphones are expected to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. The Galaxy S III shows up under all of the major US carriers as “Coming Soon!”. If Samsung wanted us to become even more frustrated and impatient, they couldn’t have done a better job.

Whether “coming soon” means sometime this week or later in this month is still up for questioning. All we really know is that there’s a rumor saying the update will arrive at some point this month, and while that sounds like it’s just around the corner, it means we could be waiting a few weeks. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.

The Galaxy S III is arguably Samsung’s most popular phone of all time. It sold over 20 million units in its first three months of availability. The phone sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, and comes packing with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB of RAM. The device was initially released back in May and it still shows no signs of slowing down as we approach the holiday season.

Samsung‘s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III will officially be making its way to MetroPCS starting in October. Of course, the S III has been around for a few months already on a number of carriers, but if you’ve been interested in picking one up at a smaller regional carrier, now is the time to do so.

The Galaxy S III will be the most powerful smartphone that MetroPCS has ever offered. The device comes with a 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED 720p display and runs off of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It also packs 2GB of RAM and an 8MP rear camera capable of shooting 720p video.

It also has all the amenities anyone could ask for, like Wi-Fi, 4G capabilities, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and a barometer. If you’ve never played around with a Galaxy S III before, we recommend giving our full review a look-over and even watching our hands-on video below.

You can also check out our many hands-on sessions with different versions of the Galaxy S III, including AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s versions, as well as Verizon’s version that comes packing with 4G LTE. Samsung also just recently started rolling out Jelly Bean to the Galaxy S III, which will certainly be a nice addition to a phone that’s already pretty great. We ended up getting a hands-on on with a Jelly Bean version as well.

The exact date that the Galaxy S III will be available at MetroPCS is unknown, but we’re sure we’ll hear more about it soon, since the first of the month is just right around the corner and anxious minds will certainly want to know when they start to use this bad boy on a cheaper carrier. To celebrate, MetroPCS is hosting a giveaway where participants will have a shot at winning a free Galaxy S III.

Everyone’s favorite color is coming to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, at least for those in Korea. Since we know not everyone likes the standard black or white color options on their powerful smartphones Samsung’s here to the rescue. Offering their powerful quad-core smartphone in a cute color. More details below.

Recently Samsung has been loving the options though. After originally launching the Galaxy S III with just two color options, they’ve since announced 4 new ones bringing the total to 7 if you count hot pink. Now Samsung’s flagship smartphone is offered in Marble White, Pebble Blue, Amber Brown, Garnet Red, Sapphire Black and Titanium Grey.

Surely they have an elegant name for the pink option — but we haven’t heard it yet. I’m going with Berry Pink, or maybe even Lily Pink. Since the Galaxy S III was “inspired by nature” according to Samsung. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen pink color options from the South Korean company. Their Galaxy Note and Galaxy S II got the same treatment, but none ever made it to the states.

The all new Berry Pink Galaxy S III (yup, I’m going with Berry) will hit the streets in Korea starting next week, and we have no word on whether a US debut is coming but expect it to arrive around the holidays. Personally the new Titanium Grey color is my favorite on both the GSIII and the Galaxy Note II. Ladies, will you go for pink or are you set on that white iPhone 5?
