Gear VR demo stations headed to Best Buy

To make the public get a little bit better understanding of what it'll be like to live in a Virtual Reality environment in the near future, Samsung is teaming up with Best Buy. At a number of Best Buy locations across the United States, Samsung will be bringing the Samsung Gear VR to their Samsung Experience Shops. This hands-on opportunity will begin on the 8th of February and will last an unspecified amount of time. There's also a site made by Best Buy to locate the closest participating location near you.

Leaked email hints at Samsung’s Lollipop upgrade plan

Leaked email hints at Samsung’s Lollipop upgrade plan

Most Android users don’t have a Nexus device, and Motorola is still not a preeminent OEM. That means most people don’t see Android updates when they’re launched, and have to wait a period of time before the manufacturer of their phone (and possibly carrier) get it together and update their handset. Plenty of reasons for the delay exist, and Google would rather we have their newest Android quickly, but most are left wanting. A leaked email suggests Samsung is priming their Experience Shop associates for Lollipop to hit in January.

John Carmack endorses Google Cardboard – sort of

The Chief Technology Officer of Oculus VR - and Facebook employee - John Carmack has made clear that he's all about Google Cardboard. It wasn't long after Facebook acquired Oculus VR that Google I/O 2014 took place and Google slyly released Cardboard. Google Cardboard product manager Andrew Nartker suggested earlier this month that it was "the first Cardboard prototype" that inspired Google's interest in VR as a whole - not necessarily the Oculus Rift VR headset. Carmack suggests he doesn't mind one way or the other - he's just glad the VR environment is expanding, so to speak.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Note Edge camera

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Note Edge camera

When we first saw the Galaxy Note 4 at a Samsung conference earlier this year, Samsung also showed us the Galaxy Note Edge. At that time, it wasn't entirely apparent - they're said to come with the same cameras. Since then, we've put them to the test. Some devices perform VERY different from one another even though they're supposed to have the same hardware - can Samsung stay true to its word here?

Report: Note Edge, Note 4 to get Lollipop upgrade

The Samsung Note 4 and Note Edge have a lot of similarities. Under the hood, the two are nearly identical. Face-forward, the story changes quite a bit. The rounded screen on the Note Edge is a neat add-on, but many wonder how it will hold up to the Android upgrade cycle. As it turns out, you may have nothing to worry about. A new report suggests Samsung will update both the Note 4 and Note Edge to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon.

Verizon Galaxy Note 4 gets the Gear VR update

Verizon Galaxy Note 4 gets the Gear VR update

This morning - just one day after the Gear VR started arriving on user doorsteps - the Verizon version of the Galaxy Note 4 got its requisite Gear VR software update. It's amazing. It's stupendous. It's almost unheard of. Mostly because Verizon is notoriously slow in bringing updates to devices once they've been submitted to them by manufacturers. Between this and the Verizon Moto X Lollipop update, we're thinking we might be taking crazy pills. Or that Verizon's update process is changing - either way!

Gear VR headset released with AT&T and Samsung

This week the folks at Samsung have pushed their Gear VR virtual reality headset to the public as an Innovator Edition. This is akin to the Explorer Edition of Google Glass in that it's not necessarily meant to be a consumer device in the traditional sense. You can buy this VR headset for use with your Galaxy Note 4 through AT&T starting December 12th or straight through Samsung starting this week. This device works with the Galaxy Note 4 exclusively - and you'll need one to make this headset do anything.
