Activision discusses Call of Duty’s future

Activision and Bungee have revealed the details of its upcoming “shared-world shooter”, Destiny, that is anticipated to shake up the online gaming industry when it launches. The game has a 10-year publishing deal with Activision, and will be released in a series of 10 “books”. However, with all of the hype centering around Destiny, we can’t forget about Activision’s other successful online shooter, Call of Duty. Presenting Hawken: free multiplayer mech combat in beta mode

It’s time to jump in on one of the most impressive mech-based first person shooters to have come along for quite a while – Hawken – released for Beta gameplay for the masses this week. This game is developed by Adhesive Games and published by Meteor Entertainment, designed by Khang Le, Christopher Lalli, and John Park, and based in the Unreal Engine 3 universe. In a nutshell it’s a battle game where you’re in a giant one-person machine that blows up other machines for fun – simple concept, fabulous execution.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour arriving December 6 on iOS, Android “shortly after”

Back in September, we got our first glimpse at Gameloft's latest mobile FPS title, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, in the form of a trailer. Needless to say, we were pretty excited about it, and finally, Gameloft has announced that the new game will be releasing this Thursday, December 6, on iOS, while Android devices will get it "shortly after." Killzone: Mercenary announced as Vita exclusive at Gamescom

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified isn't the only console spin-off that will be exclusive to the PS Vita, as Sony's Gamescom press conference also treated us to the announcement of Killzone: Mercenary. Like most spin-offs, Killzone: Mercenary will be quite a bit different from the core Killzone franchise, as this time around you'll be playing as - surprise! - a mercenary working with both the Helghast and the ISA. Dead Trigger hits 1 million iOS downloads after free-to-play switch

Earlier this week, Madfinger made its mobile FPS Dead Trigger free-to-play on the iOS App Store. That iOS transition came after and earlier switch to free-to-play on Android, with Madfinger saying that the piracy rate on Android was just too great. It seems that piracy was driving the decision to go free-to-play on iOS as well, but whatever the reason, the switch appears to have worked: Dead Trigger has hit 1 million downloads on iOS, just a few days after going free-to-play. Wolfenstein 3D turns 20, goes free on the web and iOS

If you've played Halo, Modern Warfare or Team Fortress in the last week, take a moment to thank id Software. Twenty years ago last Saturday they published Wolfenstein 3D, forever placing a mark on first-person shooter gaming and giving a whole new generation good reason to hate Nazis.
