Facebook friends Ford to make a “social” car

Facebook and Ford recently held a joint "Hackathon" event aimed at exploring new ways of making cars more social. About 30 engineers from both Ford and Facebook got together for the 24-hour event to rapidly develop prototype apps that would integrate Facebook's social elements with Ford's SYNC platform to create a seamless connected in-car user experience. Ford SYNC takes a European roadtrip with B-Max

Ford's SYNC system is one of the best uses of in-car technology out there that's included by a manufacturer - but since its inception in 2007 it's been relegated to North America. The company aims to end that sad state of affairs next week at the Geneva Motor Show, when it introduces SYNC to European customers in the new 2013 B-Max crossover. he optional add-on will be added to other models afterwards. Currently the company hasn't said when the B-Max will hit the road, or how long after that it'll take to expand  the current line-up with the SYNC option. Read The Full Story

Ford figures fleets of autopilot cars coming in next decade

Bill Ford Jr, head of Ford Motor Company, thinks over the next decade, there'll be fleets of autopilot cars cruising the highways around the world. That would be no surprise considering the work going into making autonomous vehicles already. Google is already operating autonomous cars that use GPS and a host of sensors to navigate freely from point to point with no human interaction. Read The Full Story

Ford upgrades Transit van to the sleeker Tourneo Custom

Let's face it. It's hard to make a high-capacity van look sexy. You just can't merge a Chevy Astro with a Mini Cooper. It doesn't work. But Ford is trying to push the envelope with a new concept model called the Ford Tourneo Concept. It's making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place next month. Ford ships OpenXC beta kits for in-car apps

Apps will soon be as prevalent for your car as they are for your smartphones, or at least that's what Ford is aiming for. The car maker's Research and Innovation team has joined forces with Bugs Lab to create a software and hardware platform called OpenXC that will allow third-party developers to create custom apps for cars. Today, they've released the beta dev kits for developers to start tinkering. Read The Full Story

GMC announces IntelliLink for smartphone connectivity

GMC has announced a new system that will first be seen in the 2012 GMC Terrain SUV. The system is called IntelliLink and is designed to connect the drivers smartphone to the vehicle entertainment system and to provide voice-activated control of the audio system. IntelliLink allows voice commands to start a phone call, change the radio station, and to stream Internet radio. Drivers can even use their voice to control an iPod. Read The Full Story

Aston Martin puts the V12 Zagato into production

Aston Martin has revealed the road-going version of the new V12 Zagato sports car. The car uses the V12 Vantage platform and places a new aluminum/carbon fiber body on the aluminum structure of the base car. I think the car looks pretty cool, but I don't care for the wheels that look like flowers to my eyes. Apparently Top Gear doesn't care for the rear spoiler, but it looks good to me and isn't is outrageous as some cars on the road. Read The Full Story

Ford debuts 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible in Chicago

We previously talked about the 2013 Shelby GT500 coupe with its gargantuan 650 hp supercharged V-8 engine and 600 foot-pounds of torque. Ford intends to offer that massive power in an open-top version as well for muscle car fans who want the wind in their hair at triple digit speeds. The 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 convertible has debuted at the Chicago Auto Show and is helping to celebrate the 20-year history of the Ford Special Vehicle Team or SVT as it is known. 2013 Shelby GT500 racetrack durability car sells for $350k

When it comes to Ford Mustangs, Carol Shelby is closely tied to the muscle car. Shelby has been hopping up the already fast and powerful Mustang line since the 60s to provide even more power. Shelby was also a racing driver who was very successful with his own car, the Cobra in the 60s as well. 2013 Ford Fusion aims to match NASCAR technology with production model

Over the past several decades, the change from stock car racing up to the massively powerful motor sports that include such gems as NASCAR has been drastic - but Ford and several other manufacturers are aiming to shrink that gap with their 2013 lineups. In the 2013 Ford Fusion, the main objective of Ford is to bring a NASCAR vehicle that owners of the production model of the same vehicle will not only recognize, but will impressed to see jamming around the track with essentially the same build as their own vehicle at home. In this way both Ford and NASCAR are aiming to tie the NASCAR sport back to the viewer in a way that's close to the heart. Read The Full Story

Ford issues recall on over 400k Freestar, Monterey, and Escape vehicles

Ford has issued a recall and a huge number of vehicles in order to fix defects on the cars that can lead to power loss of fire. The recall covers 205,896 Ford Freestar and Mercury clone Monterey vans. The recall also covers 244,530 Ford Escape SUVs along with an additional 40,000 Escape SUVs sold outside the US. The recalls are being handled in coordination with the NHTSA and were confirmed by a Ford spokesman. Read The Full Story
